They don't mention the purpose of the hook at the tip of the khopesh. When a fighter's opponent raised his shield to obstruct a strike, the fighter could turn the khopesh over, use the hook to grab the edge of the shield to pull it down, the stab the opponent in the neck with the tip.
Khopesh. Classification: Close quarters combat weapon. Based on: Nubian rotwet. Khopesh is based on the god Apep. It is a symbol of destruction, designed by the Medja during the second founding, with the help of Nubian metal smiths. Due to the difficulty in making the sword...and it's relatively short reach, Medjays and their muren, generally carried one of them, and a stela (medium-spear with a really long spearhead). During the exploration of the sudd, the southern nubians limited usage of the sword, until it became an antiquity...replaced by the stela, shields and archery.
First of all, the mural at 0:49 depicts a throwing club. In fact, if you look to the right you'll see another "khopesh" flying through the air. Also, it is possible that the khopesh would be used as an anti-shield weapon. Allowing the soldier to go around the opponent's shield and deliver a blow.
Lmfao did any one catch that at 2:00 Fat joe “Right in the ovary look at that right in the ovary is the ovary up there ?” Paramedic “Just youres” Fat joe “Ok” Wtf hahahaha
A khopesh places the cutting edge ahead of the user's fingers, like a parang, so the user's hand is protected...it's not going to impact the target in a manner likely to harm the fingers, or cause the user to let go. The khopesh is also not designed to place a lot of mass behind a chopping motion.
@@avengedxp4702 shittiest argument ever seen, if you dont like the government leave the country? and yeah, most probably he/she and I are not going to ever watch this shit show again, the host didn't even mention how the kapesh was used as hook to trap enemies and move shields, if you want to decide which sword is superior by its sharpness everyone knows thats a katana, but we know we cant decide a sword in that way.
If this show gets a second season Chuey has got to go. And get some swordmen experienced in Cutting with swords please. Really a shame to see these beautiful forged weapons swung around like baseball bats.
What was the point of the mummy? Did people wear mummy wraps on the battlefield? Were there enemy forces of resurrected undead that people had to fight against? I wonder if there is an episode testing the efficacy of pitchforks against Frankenstein's monster.
The biggest advantage this weapon gave its owner is that when your opponent would try to move away from you or dodge an attack it would change their momentum and pierce directly into them while a sword would slice them rather than turn them onto your blade
Is having an oblivious host who has no connection towards the material mandatory or something? He's clueless and clearly isn't interested in the subject of ancient weaponry so why not bring in someone who both enjoys it AND isn't a blabbering goof.
2:00 "right in the ovary. look at that right in the ovary... is the ovary up there?" "just yours." "oh ok" this dude knows more about weapons than his own body smh
Wish you guys had stuck to using professionals... Also get rid of the hosts and replace them with people that actually know what they're talking about.
0:51 that is not a Khopesh, that is a throwing club/stick, they are common in parts of sub-Saharan east Africa, that scene is from the marsh scene of Nakht or Nebamun. The Maasai use one called a Rungu.
In battle the curve gives user a split second advantage where the sword are more closer to the enemy than it looks, also the curve may also be used to steal enemies weapon, not to mention other creative tricks possible by the curve.
Not a bad series. But I think different hosts and getting more in depth about the weapon and more tests would make it better. Just seems way too short and makes you wanting more but all of a sudden its finished.
You guys should definitely try out the tomahawk, the Bowie knife, and the katana. All three of these weapons are from different origins of the world and United States, but they all doing a job and they are brutal in their jobs.
Yo if you're trying to be like Deadliest Warrior then get some ballistics gel torsos and/or pig carcasses, cover them in period appropriate armor and THEN test out the weapon. The milk cartons I test swords out with at home are better than that paper mache, and (presuming there was a ballistic gel torso under those bandages) it would have been nice to see it tested against some New Kingdom linen armor.
This weird shaped sword is called Kopis and the name comes from Ancient Greek word "κοπής". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopis The main idea behind this sword is that can take off a limb easier. Greek style kopis has almost the same length but the curvature is different, as originally they were using them as an one-handed sword with a shield. Greeks passed the knowledge for weapon-making to Egyptians as they had great relationships because of trade basically. So "Kopis" is a Greek sword and not Egyptian.
The kopis is an unrelated sword entirely. The Khopesh was used far before the classical Greek empire was even around, by around 1000 years in 18th century bc. It was used even before than by Canaanites, who some think used it against the Egyptians, of which the Egyptians adopted it themselves as they were impressed by its abilities. It was evolved from battle axes and again has nothing to do with Greece or the Kopis. Also "Greeks passed the knowledge for weapon-making to Egyptians"? Really? You clearly don't do much studying, because the entirety of the Greek civilization (including music, math, dance, and other things) was inspired from Ancient Egypt; who in turn learned much of what they did from Nubia and Kush.
Still don't understand why they're not making these like crazy. quite possibly one of the best sword designs. Stab, Slash and Hook. Would also make a great machete design with multipurpose...
For starters, melee combat is obsolete. To the point where one soldier killing a dude with his bayonet in Iraq a while back was actually headline newsworthy due to sheer rarity.
I am not trolling. U said possibly one of the best sooo what u ment by that wasnt clear to me. I warent trying yo offend or trigger or troll u. I was just giving my opinion on the matter
There need to be more statistics, like put these swords on a machine and check how much kinetic energy they generate at a standard force. Check their drag coefficients to know how fast it could go and check their reliability.
I am not convinced the emt guy is as knowledgeable as the say. the show itself is terrible but but he really sticks out and I agree with everyone else that these mannequins are not great indicators of the weapons killing/maiming capacity.
They don't mention the purpose of the hook at the tip of the khopesh. When a fighter's opponent raised his shield to obstruct a strike, the fighter could turn the khopesh over, use the hook to grab the edge of the shield to pull it down, the stab the opponent in the neck with the tip.

I'm sorry but a movie fanatic serves literally no purpose in discussing historical weaponry. History and Hollywood don't mix well.
Christopher William but games and history does?
Mario Alberto P games arent meant to be realistic, while many movies try to be. and the games that are trying actually do a pretty good job (usually)
Mario Alberto :P when tf did the original comment ever mention anything about games?
This ain't a classroom
You’re an idiot dude. Ignorance is hurtingggg

Lol so instead of a god-king receiving a powerful symbol, it's a dude throwing sticks at birds. Good to know humanity hasn't changed that much.
@@hetistijmen
Lmao, facts 🤣
Not really feelin these hosts
I like the EMT dude. He knew his shit.
Agreed Chuey is the real shelf filler. Never wanted to watch the show after hearing his silly uninformed comments.
Yeah it makes me just miss Deadliest Warrior and its awesome hosts
thank you!!
Shining Fist - pervert!
Which weapon is the deadliest? the Nuke. There, show over.
thekillers1stfan insects cause a nuke needs to be built refined , an insect can wreck mass havok with just west nile
insects aren't weapons
well if we could technically achieve it, it would be antimatter. Whats deadlier as annihilating matter into nothing but gammarays?
I can Survive a Nuke Blast with the Fridge not a Threat.
Chuck Norris trumps a nuke mate
What the hell kind of test is this?
Mr Nobody I would say it is a fun test 😂
The stupid cool kind.
sssooooo we're all just ignoring that he thought on a male proportioned body that there was ovaries in the shoulder?
Lmao ikr ?? That was just ignorant.
R/wooosh think it mightve been a joke
Wait whut
“Yours is there”
I heard that too and was like wtf

Is that paper mache? How could they possibly let that pass for a human analog? Use a pig, or ballistics gel. What were they thinking?
Might have been a finding issue, after blowing all their money on their video editing
TARINunit9 It’s a televised series. Frankly, considering the effort they put into their AWEme series, I’m disappointed.
If those cuts and text overlays ate all their budget, I'm surprised the kopesh itself wasn't made out of plaster.
Ballin on a budget lol
I think da show is about showings how dis kind of weapons n wat damage do they cause... Been used da way dey were used
Lmfao did any one catch that at 2:00

This weapon dates back to 2500 BCE that's 4500 years ago they didn't wear much armor if any at all in Egypt.
Some day one of these shows is going to be done with someone who actually knows something about weapons.
The biggest advantage this weapon gave its owner is that when your opponent would try to move away from you or dodge an attack it would change their momentum and pierce directly into them while a sword would slice them rather than turn them onto your blade
That painting is not showing a khopesh, but a snake shaped hunting stick to throw at geese by the Nile river
The khopesh isn't even a regal weapon. Pharaohs would typically use bow and arrow along with chariot.
Is having an oblivious host who has no connection towards the material mandatory or something? He's clueless and clearly isn't interested in the subject of ancient weaponry so why not bring in someone who both enjoys it AND isn't a blabbering goof.
The khopesh is actually used for pulling weapons away from enemies, not killing them

I would have liked a show on the actual forging of these weapons, not just these people going nuts on the dummies.
Zed Haley This is the Khopesh that we made on the show "Man at Arms Art of War". You can view the process there.
Cheers to whoever was in that mummy outfit.
