Thanks for posting the video. I'm looking to change the leaking heater control valve on the 940 with a mk1 vw golf valve as the non-A/C RHD Volvo valve is no longer available. I'm sure that seeing you do the 90 degree twist to free the valve from the firewall has avoided much potential grief. Good stuff !
Thanks! You saved my day. I couldn't figure out how to remove the valve and I couldn't find it online. No chainsaw needed, turn it clockwise (bajonet). 👍 740, 1989, non-ac.
Excellent video, thank you Mike. I am certain I would not have been able to successfully replace the heater matrix on my non-AC 940 without this. I agree with you that the large white box needs to be removed,
Thanks for this video mate. It's the first I've seen that addresses changing the matrix on a non a/c 940. All the other info on t'internet seems to cover just a/c models. I am in the middle of doing the same job on my 940 and have just got to the point where all the black bits are stripped out and was wondering what on earth I do next. Now I have a choice of trying to fit into the driver's footwell or trying to drop out the white bits on my own!
Sorry for the slow reply, ive been away. I would recommend getting the white part out, it would be possible on your own but tricky, if you can ask someone to help with the removal and refitting you only need them to help for a couple of minutes to remove and reposition the white thing. be sure to refil and run the car with heater valve open to check there are no leaks before re installing dashboard fully. keep your eye on the temp gauge and there will be airlocks in the system, squeeze the top and bottom rad hoses when the car is warming up to try and force out any air. if your car is an auto without the switchable overdrive DO NOT rev the engine in neutral or park as this will destroy the cluch plates.
it was a bit of a pain, the main stress being I had the car booked on the ferry to visit parents abroad about a week before the leak appeared, it was just after christmas.
Great video a great help

Looks a nightmare. Had a manual 945 but changed it for a new 855 manual in 94 which I still have. 👍🏻🏴
