Hot tip: If you ride in an area where always on headlights is mandatory, the headlight bulb connector is an easy & convenient place to wire things up, especially if your bike runs halogens & you've switched to LED's.
I've had a few situations on the highway where someone has whizzed past & scared the crap out of me, where this would have been an appreciated warning, but it happens so infrequently that I wouldn't drop the cash on it. Where I can see a huge market though is for newer riders. They tend to ride lower powered (slower) motorcycles & have a lot less riding experience. This could save lives in that group & is definitely worth the price of entry.

@@spitescorner What is a running brake light? 😁
You can also use the "option" connector. This "option" connector is a label in the Honda wiring diagrams, normally for the OE alarm.
Getting to what Punch stated about mandatory headlights - only fools, idiots and narcassists ride/drive without lights - CWOLs.... Cnts WithOut Lights. (Especially where the weather is normally grey)

@@spitescorner I'm in the armchair watching the video. You're the one trying to install it while keeping it as pristine as possible for the next owner while recording a video. Who's got the easier job of figuring out where to wire it? 😂 And yet you still picked the 2 wiring options that work on every motorcycle world wide. Every other option comes with caveats.

One thing i appreciate about modern riders is they embrace security instead of the posturing that says gear is for cowards. I've got a Tuono V4 and for me it's ATGATT. As far as I'm concerned, blind spot detection is more gear, and well worth it, even if i can just turn my head.

Nice review. As a rider that cant fully twist around to see behind me due to a back surgery, this is a perfect compliment to my limited visual scanning. People pay $1000 for a name brand helmet, but poo poo spending $300 on a safety device. That's weird to me. As an ingineer, it would be very easy to modify this so that it only beeps when you have a turn signal on....just saying....😊

I have an issue that I can't seem to combat where the bike/car drifts heavily over whenever I look over my shoulder so a solution would appeal but I would rather it be a visual solution rather than a thing beeping at me. Something like a really wide view additional mirror that lets me see if the blind-spot is empty or not and if it isn't then I will have to look. If that makes any sense.

I think you hit the nail on the head with how it should function. It should be exactly like automotive OE, only beeping if you're signaling, lights in/on the mirrors, ect. I personally would not be interested in the exact model you showed here because of this. I think that in order to have the level of integration that we are talking about, it would be extremely cost prohibitive. For an aftermarket add on, you're talking power and ground(however you choose to do that), wires to the warning lights, wires to the actual sensor, wire to a buzzer if applicable, and then even more signal wires at least to the turn signals or possible the turn signal switch, all going to a brain box that could determine everything it needs to do already PLUS figure out whether it should beep or not depending on your turn signal input. I also think like cars, it will be something that becomes standard equipment on certain before long, and not offered on others. We will probably see it on a Honda Goldwing or similar first.

Agree with your assessment. The beeping would drive me insane after the first day. Just a yellow light on appropriate mirror just like cars would be ideal. I'll still head check every time, but having redundancies never hurts.

In all honesty - I don't use my mirrors much. When I'm looking in my mirrors or turning my head, I'm taking my eyes off what is happening on the road in front of me. This is why I ride 10-15 faster than traffic. It enables me to know where people are at without having to constantly turn and look.

When it comes to wiring in accessories, one tip I was given; connect into the horn circuit. It’s easier to get into and is tied to the ignition so won’t drain the battery. I do it with heated grips.
As for the monitor. initially I was skeptical but as a retrofit item to mimic monitors in cars, I think it looks decent, as long as riders use it as an aid.
Honestly I would want to be able to disable the beep, and just have it light up.
Generally I’m pretty good at knowing what’s around me, but just occasionally on a busy commute or a day where I’m off form, having a little help could be handy.
Fair play to Innovv, they obviously have confidence in the product to send it Spite knowing he’ll speak his opinion.

Regarding the connection of the power supply, please connect the red cable to ACC (key), and connect the black cable to the negatrive pole of the motorcycle battery to decrease the power consumption, the voltage must be kept between 9V and 16V. I feel the same about these that I do for the self-cancelling indicators on my new bike: I wish they weren't there because unless I have them on all my bikes, having them in one bike generates bad habits when I'm on a bike without the feature. No matter how good this is, I'm never going to not do a head check, and in the noisy environment of a motorcycle on an expressway, I just don't see the use. In a car it's a bit different since it's easy for the device to get your attention via noises, and when built in to cars it can even buzz the steering wheel to warn you if you start to change lanes (via either turn signal or camera lane assist) and there's a car in the lane you're moving in to.

No, I was tired of the beeping before the video was over. I’m not worried about my blind spot being handled by tech. I’ll check it myself. If this was just a rear collision indicator that did some math to calculate an approaching vehicle right behind me at a rate of speed it’s going to hit me I’d consider it.

I don't think you will see much adoption on the aftermarket, but selling directly to the manufacturer....that's where they will find their win.

  • @daninthepan

How sensitive is it to bikes and bicycles? It's usually bikes that give me the biggest surprise and I remember sitting at lights with my indicator on about 1meter from the curb waiting to turn then when the lights went green, a bicycle shot up the inside right into the path I was about to turn. Given that I was 1 meter from the curb you don't expect people to pass in this gap. One of these could've been great for this but I doubt they pick up bikes and bicycles.
(For the record I was chilling that day and didn't set off on the light change so nothing happened but if I'd been in a hurry, the two of us would've been in all sorts of trouble).

Mirror mounted option, so you can get the information through your peripheral vision really feels like the superior choice, last thing you would want is taking your attention off the road and end up rear ending someone.
I have had a few instances where drivers performed an overtake on the same lane, creeping up and squeezing me to the side strip. But it happens so quickly I doubt you would get much benefit in such situations.

Yeah I tend to agree, this system for motorcycles can be just as great as for cars! I get why they made this to be more safe for motorcycles or cyclists in general.
Which huge kudos to them for looking out.
But also for cars who have this option, I am thrown to the side of unnecessary options along with many others.
However they might be safe(r)(ish) and raise awareness nothing beats just looking over your shoulder.
These features added make driving or riding more autonomous so less awareness and more of the lazy drivers or riders.
Cause they be like: "i've got the system looking for me, so I don't have to look anymore". Which is dangerous in my opinion.
Like you said you might tune the sound and/or light out at some point so you won't notice it anymore and just go when you switch lanes or take a turn and then hit someone, because you didn't look. Sure it's an "if" scenario but maybe also a "when" scenario. Best is just keep looking out even with the all the tech options nowadays.

I would send the company any feedback you have for improvement or what you think is working, if they are trying to make a good product they will listen to you, if they are just looking for a pat on the back from an influencer, they will probably do nothing or even get combative. This could be useful info on future products this company might produce or they may even look to you for market research down the road to make better products for riders, I am speaking from experience with companies where I have made suggestions and directly targeted the company, I have done this on amazon and some companies have been super responsive. I have a few now that reach out to me when doing market research, and while money does not change hands, i have gotten products to test out and give feedback on, in some cases multiple versions as enhancements have been made.

First time I drove a newer car it vibrated the side of my seat when someone was in my blindspot. Scared the crap out me for a sec and I immediately turned that off. Lights and beeps are fine but the aggressive butt rattle is super weird.

  • @SirNarax

I've had it in cars and I have it on a motorcycle and I am not sure why or how to even begin to combat it but whenever I look behind me in a blindspot I drift the vehicle in that direction. It is really concerning and a hardware solution is never really something I put a lot of thought into and this really just further pushes me towards "try to be better". If the thing just beeps at me I don't really know what I should be thinking about even if I could hear it with all the noise + earplugs. If I were to go for some kind of solution it would be an additional mirror or something that capture a massive field of view. Not to avoid looking behind me but rather just to know if something at all is there and if I need to check how far away it is.

    • @nordic-chan

The place you can't see in your peripheral vision but also isn't in the field of view of your mirrors. It most certainly exists on motorcycles and is why you should always head check first. Can't count the number of times when my mirrors looked clear but turn my head and there's someone there.

Fearing for my own life, and just simply not wanting to risk injuries since I know my future lies in my children. It's really nice to see you do these videos and reviews man. It's fun, and interesting. Once my kids grow up, I'll finally get back on that saddle and have some fun again. As for the danger aspect, I wont say nobody ever got hurt doing this but it is rare. Turns out people get hurt way less when the fastest you can go is ~60mph (if you're pushing it).

And admission has gone up. I’ve already taken such ideas into account, most of which are either far too tedious or time consuming. Until my boys get to about age 12 or so, I’m stuck. Currently I’m teaching my 5yo how to ride an electric scooter and it’s fairing well. My biggest hope is that he’ll get used to riding and I can buy him a from around age 10 and have him practice on that. Then I can go to the dirt track with him for some father son shenanigans.
