Nomad Gets A SUPERCHARGER! The Blower Whine Sounds So Sweet!

- We're back from the USA and I bought myself a little present while I was south of the border. A Weiand 142 Supercharger came home in the suit case....
Now typically this sort of item would be out of my price range. My good buddy David Newbern picked up the display model from the labor day sale at Summit racing. $1500 well spent if you ask me!
On today's video we bolt on this belt driven intake manifold and hear the sweet sweet whine of this blower. It was a super easy install and I have high hopes for the power increase on this 1955 Chevy Nomad!

I'm old enough to remember a day, if you had 500-550hp in a street car, you were a badass!!
I still feel like a bad ass haha
Your still bad ass. still. No one can afford those outrages 8 or 9 hundred horse power motors not everyones rich.
Shit the bed! I'm trying to afford a 200hp motor lol
@@graybeardproductions2597 I have the engines but my DAMN VEHICLES KEEP RUSTING OUT, N.E. PA.
@@NoWr2RunSame in NY.
Dan I'm one of the guys that spun that blower at the Summit in Atlanta numerous times through the years. That's cool you ended up with it.
Same for this guy too:) The sounds I made in my head did sound as cool as this thing does now that it’s on a running engine!
THAT'S WHAT SHE NEEDED!!!! BROTHER!!! SHE IS HAPPY NOW !!👍🏻 OLD CHEVY NEVER DIE THEY GET MORE EXPENSIVE ✌🏻💗
love the gas running down your hood, classic
Patina juice?
wonder how many people lost their sh*t lol...i'm 99% sure he did this on purpose ;)
Man that Nomad sure has come a long long way. Gettin' better all the time.
Dan, the grin on your face when you lit that small block supercharger off was priceless 😎
Love it! Nothing better than the sound of a blower! A guy can appreciate the effort you put into the builds, sharing the experience and the typical snags the average guy runs into.
Gotta Love the whine !!! Hot Rod Derrick , 12 Volt Dave,Tony's still got the Shop , Speed Shop Dan Great ytubers all knowledgeable Gearheads !!!
FYI the port you plugged in the manifold is for a vacuum/boost gauge. I put a tee on the back of the carb for PCV and brake booster and had enough vacuum for brakes. Those pro billet dist. have different bushings to stop total timing, no need to lock it out. My total timing is at 32 degrees. I have had my B&M 142 supercharger since the early 80s when they first came out and paid 1,100.00 dollars complete, a steal. There is a trick to filling the case with lube, the blower has to be off, put gear lube in then tilt the snout downward, then level it out and fill till lube is just coming out the bottom plug, unless you just put in what you drained out. Mine is currently in a 1950 Ford F-1 old farm truck, not restored. 355 sbc trick flow heads 700R4 trans from monster trans 4:10 screw in an 8.8 out of a F150 and Ford performance limited slip. FUN as HELL. The sound is unmistakable.
That’s a good friend. Encouraging friends to make bad financial decisions!
You live, then you die do what makes you Feel ALIVE!
Oya he's a good dude!
You got a blower AND all the pie. Well played Sir, well played.
I've got a B&M in the box still. That I purchased in the med 80s just cause some asshole asked if I could afford one. Looks as good as the the day I got it 👍 😅😅😅😅 and he's dead
the smile on your face proves it was WELL worth it!! Great job!
When I was 17 (80's) I found one of them blowers in the junkyard on a 289 ford got motor and blower for 150 dropped it in my 55 ford pickup with a 3 speed, big old Mickey Thompson G-60-15 and man did I think that truck was something (top speed 100) but the burnouts were epic.
Dan, I swear, you have the coolest Nomad ever!!! It's rebel & mean looking, perfect. Also, it has all the go fast goodies in it, even better! How you adjusted and modified areas to work out, perfect work! In my opinion, you couldn't have built it any cooler than how it is. Anyway, thanks for the video 📸.
What does Dani think of you having another new love ?
A sweet little whiny Chrome blower ❤ 😊
Good luck with the new toy Dan... hope you have many whining miles ahead of you 😉👍
Wow. I came to see all the comments about the hood as a work bench and the gas running down it. Amazed that there are none. Haha
I had one of those on a 350 in a 75 Corvette back in the mid 90’s. It was tons of fun!
Man, you always get sh*t done. It's very encouraging. Love your videos!👊
Look's like " YOUR'E GETTING SHIT DONE ALSO ".
TRIPPING AVATAR, BRO.
The gear oil is foaming, it does not have water in it. Synthetic gear oil will be slightly better about foaming. Marine outdrive lube would be better yet. Get an air/fuel ratio gauge with an oxygen sensor to set the carburetor and jets. It makes it so much easier. Love your channel!!!
That little supercharger on that engine will be sweet. You’re gonna like it a lot.
Just the right size blower for that engine . Opposed to putting a big 6-71 on it and having to change pistons , cam and a bunch of other stuff . Cooling system should be golden and now it's time to test drive it and see how well you like it . Pretty simple setup and a few minor things to get to complete the install . Sounds awesome . Great video .
That supercharger took some effort to get home.
Glad to see it running nicely.
FYI, I know you find it irritating when the heater fires up, but you come across clear regardless. Nice blower, can’t wait to see how it performs on the street.
Thanks dude!
Heater doesn't bother me at all. You just know it's winter, that's all.
We need to put a smaller blower on our 37 Gmc bc the one on it is too big for a SBC! Building another one and we can always put the bigger blower on a Big Block. The Nomad is the coolest and only getting cooler! Thanks for sharing! 😁👍
This is exactly what I wanted to do to your old give-away 57. I stuck a borescope in a plug hole and that thing has domed pistons in it. With those pistons and the double hump heads I think it would be miserable on pump gas...
I love the sound of a blower . I can’t wait for you to take us all for a ride
And wow I learned a lot from this episode
It sounds sooooo good
As the owner of a weiand 142 for years, I highly recommend the Holly blower carb. Mine idles at 950 and makes 492 at 6200 .best power at 34 degrees
Blower carb is in the mail
@@DDSpeedShop it will "parade "all day with out overheating because of all that aluminum. Will haul a trailer like a Cummings diesel. They are more fun than should be legal
Oh and a125 hp plate system is an excellent intercooler
No need for a blower carb, I have been running a Holley 650 double pumper manual secondaries, with bigger jets since those blowers came out in the 80s. But mine is a B&M. No issues whatsoever. Showing my age now.
@@speedyg2577 I did it your way and the blower carb way. If you think it's good now you'll be amazed with they blower carb. Over 20 miles to a gallon and same set of plugs I started with
Dan looks and sounds great! I was intrigued by the odd assembly of that composite riveted pulley!
If that piece was tight inside I would think it was there for strength. We had a stock pulley crack from fatigue.
Made overseas
Well, Dan, you have become a supreme hotrod builder. One man show, good job.
I feel ya, Dani! I don't ever get any pie either bc someone eats it all! 😅
I had a T shirt years ago that said injection is nice but I'd rather be blown, with a cartoon blown engine on it. Of course a Blower is the way to go!
Love the 'Blomad' Dan.
Keep pushing Dan the possibilities are endless who knows 1000 1500 HP. I remember the first race car I built ,I asked the engine builder how fast I could go, he said how much money do you have..
If you were after the whine, put a bad power steering pump on. It’s got a whine and is a lot less money. As always, cool video.
LMAO, NO SHIT, IT WORKS, DAMN THAT IS FUNNY.
😂 LOL!!!
Run one low on fluid will do that too
You may want to buy a bottom aluminum pulley. The thickness on the steel pulley is for deflection. There’s a good possibility being that thin it will crack an come apart. Just a thought Dan. Don’t want to see your Nomad damaged. To nice of a car for that. Great videos love watching them.
The only thing that I would think, as to why they sandwiched the other piece of the pulley together was for structural integrity, and to add more strength? Because of the amount of leverage it has against the belt. If that makes sense?
you can never go wrong with the good kind of engine whine
Yeppp...Terence and Philip approve. Welcome to the blower club bro!
Rocking with the big boys now . Keep it up
Great work Dan, you have sure put a lot of effort into your nomadd and it shows. If I were you I wouldn't part with it unless it's for something exceptional. Stay safe you both.🙂🐑
I love the sound of the blower's but I also don't like shit out of my hood but I'm glad you got one if it makes you happy
I sure hope Weiand starts making them again. They are great for the street!
I’ve had one of these blowers on my 34 Ford coupe for over 30 years with no problems. Probably should do some maintenance on it though
Absolutely Awesome! I have never cared anything for a blower, but I might just have been persuaded! Great Job!!👍👍
my pop always wanted one of these for the '64 el camino
love those baby blowers, had one on my 66 chevelle, had to put a glass hood with a scoop to clear it. Ended up swapping a big block.
Grease or petroleum jelly on the gaskets and your able to reuse them. Mortske Repair or Watch Wes Work does it more than most and it works, I have used it to reuse gaskets on Carby swaps.
No better time for a fine whine!!😂
Well done Dan you're playing with the big boy pants on now! A blower makes all the difference like your quarter mile just lost 2 seconds off your run times.
I chuckled with you when you showed us the blower. That’s awesome!! You can’t get away from the whining! The parts are from China-that’s why!! Great channel DD speed shop!!
He is a great guy that he was able to get the display for you.
I don’t normally do this but I have so enjoyed watching you build your cars. Would you ever sell the Nomad? Just curious, I’m now 68 and had 10 back surgeries so building my own cars are kinda out of reach but I love long roofs! I gave my last one to my daughter (a 57 150 Handyman I had for over 15 years) when I was told I’d never walk again. Glad to say I can still walk and do general maintenance but not able to do full builds anymore and I so miss my hot rods! Thanks for your videos, brings back so many good memories.
Blown 55 Nomad! Wicked cool Dan
Do another road trip in this with the blower on love this car
Dan, why not try one of your Holley Snipers on the blower? It flows about 950cfm and should be much easier to tune and make idle correctly than running two Snipers at once.
"It's not my fault I ate all the pie" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cute little blower 😂
Just saw the Facebook post, 1 in 4 men are happy! To funny
Hardest working hot rodder out there
Nice!!👍🏽🏁Thanks for the Entertainment Big Dan.
Well Dan, you really blown it now! ✌️😂
BLOWER TIME!
Very cool man. I've always wanted one of those. I'll get there one day! Loved this one.
Hey Dan 👋 , sounds good. Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend 👋
Great job. That “blows “ my mind
I think you need a polished mr. Gasket snorkel sticking out of the hood so when you throttle it and get that whining noise you'll have those butterflies opening in the front giving you that Mad Max look and maybe push a little more air down the Yap. Just saying
Sounds perfect... Just enough whine to get your attention
Sounds good looking forward to the first drive
This is a stepping stone. Next thing you know youll be buying a 671 and turbos.
Ugggg I know!
here comes the Mad Max DD Nomad !
Good job on the blower!
Love your channel.
SO VERY COOL!! I LOVE it! GREAT Video!
Two pivotal moments in your video for me today.First is when you pause and say ooh Dani looks good today, thought we would lose video feed for 60 seconds lol.Second was working on the carb with gas running down the hood, the bitchin rides fans had to be losing their minds. This is one bad ass car that actually gets used and the blower was the icing on the cake.
Oya I drive to wheels off this sucker
You should put a smaller pulley on it. I looked on the Weiand tech sheets and they’re max overdrive is 2.44:1.
You knew that was coming. You ate it all anyway. You are such a guy.
Love it the wine is amazing little sleeper I love blower motors
I had one back in the day. It was a lot of fun.
You definitely need to put the nut on when you lock out those distributors
Why?
@@DDSpeedShop I’ve had the hole ware in one with a loose nut I discovered it when the engine was running bad and when I put the timing light on it I had timing moving up and down I pulled the distributor and fixed the loose condition and the engine ran perfectly
Sounds great!😎👍
13:24 din din makes good friends😅😂🎉
Vary awesome indeed. Nice job on getting the Nomad what it needs for it. Keep up the great work.
I could hear the whirl of the blower right as soon as it flashed and the induction sound was mean sounding.
Looking forward to the next steps of this build continuation.
Boost gauge in the works ?
Love the old school distributor wrench. Half the people watching this I bet have never seen one.
That’s one fine 55 Dan , I can’t wait to see you bang gears in it !!! . Cheers 🇨🇦
I SEE YOU CHANGED THE OIL ON YOUR HAT. HA HA. lOVE YOR SHOW .
I love it! Pies and blowers Yeah!
Hey Dan
Lots of smiling, must be a good thing!🙂
Take care of Yourself
Dude, you gotta tell Dani to get you a belt for your pants 😮
Very cool Dan you are the man!!
Don't forget to check the case to rotor clearance with the feeler gauges that were included in the kit
If you really need to you should be able to shim out the top pully for the blower
That’s so cool Dan and sounds great. 👍😎✌️
Nice! Lookin forward to seeing more once you snagalate rest of the parts on.
been waiting for a blower or velocity stacks/itb on one of your beasts sick
Thay laminate the pully to make it ridged for strathe BTW the nomad is sick with the supercharger 👍
I use to have a B&M blower like that I tried selling it for years finally one day I was loading up stuff for scrap and i tossed it in the pile no one wanted to buy it an I wasn’t going give it away so I got what ever it was worth in scrap
That hurts my ears
@@DDSpeedShop I tried selling it at multiple swap meets or on marketplace and no one would even look at it I finally got tired of it taking up space in my shop
Wicked Dan!! Lovin it!!! Can't wait for some in car gear bangin tire fryin fun🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😢😢rock on 🤘 👌 😎!!!!
Love that blower whine Dan!
Cool !! Nice little blower . Go have some fun !
Way to go Danno. Frighin sweet whine
So much fun i watched it twice (with commercials 😉).
Put a safety under the carburetor so if anything falls off linkage wise, it doesn't go through your blower
