  • On this episode of Ask Us Anything, Cody and Cole tackle the tough questions you guys asked! We started with the Fox Vs King debate, then went into fitting 37’s and how tire size changes ride quality. We finished off with answering whether or not premium suspension like Carli and Thuren is really worth the cost for most people. Let us know what you want in the next episode!

    great vid guys...I always learn something from your channel. My 20 7.3 will be here shortly. I have 37 12.5 20's on my 15 F350 Love the look...I have been wrestling around do I want 35's or 295 65 20's on this new truck or go 37's with a level lift. My question is with the 295 tire being a 35.1 tire x 11.6 wide vs the 37 which is really a 36.5 x12.5...with less mass wont it ride and handle better. Second Q..Any more info on lead time for the gas superduty components vs me having to use the diesel components.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're debating on tires, always go for the bigger size. I can count the number of customers who downsize on one hand, but almost everyone that goes for a smaller size up front comes back for bigger in the end. That truck will handle 37s just fine! As for lead time, expect about 4 months. This whole COVID-19 thing is going to throw a wrench in the supply chain though.

    I went with Fox 2.0 shocks and stabilizers on my 2005 Ram and I wish I hadn't. They only lasted 30,000 miles before the seals started failing. Sent them in to be rebuilt and they responded saying it's going to cost more because the shafts are pitted. I told them to just get them done as my truck is just sitting here useless but never again. Just purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 2wd new body style and I plan to put on a 2.5 front leveling kit with 35x12.5 tires on 18x9 wheels! Does anyone have any knowledge as to if this would cause any rubbing? If so what can be done to combat that issue? Also, will I absolutely need to purchase new control arms? And why? (First time truck buyer & first time dealing with large wheels/tires and any type of leveling kit)

      @RucaMad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a 19 Ram 1500 4WD, and also have 35" tires on a 18x9 Rim. The tires will fit and only minor plastic trimming is required. New UCAs are mainly required if you lift beyond 3" in the front. New UCAs are a benefit for better angles if you can afford them, but not necessary at 2.5".

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You didn't mention tire size or type, but my guess would be that you're running commercial tires on a 22.5 wheel set up. Those tires ride horribly and no suspension can ever make up for it sadly. You also have to remember that this suspension is designed to ride nice AND tow. It will never ride like a 1500 truck unless you completely give up your towing ability, so you'll always have some sacrifice. If you still aren't happy though, talk to Thuren about making some changes to your shock tuning!

I have a bone stock 2017 F350... i have a set of 17” methods that i have owned since i picked it up but just now considering suspension and tires. I tow a 10k toy hauler to go kart tracks all over the PNW (lots of towing hill and mountain passes). Whats your general recommendation regarding lift&tire size for guys that tow like me?

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since you tow, you can either do a 35, or re-gear for 37s. As for suspension, a Carli level or a 4.5” system with the Carli LT bags would be perfect. We’ll address that topic in a future Q&A though because it’s a common situation!

    I have a 06 dodge mega cab with 5.9 and I’m interested in the 6” lift but on the fence whether the long arm or radius arm. One question is what about traction bars in the back? Do you run those?

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We never run traction bars since they defeat the articulation and ride quality improvement that the performance leaf springs give. We’ve got plenty of customers running high power on Carli or Thuren leaf springs without issue!
      As for the arms, the 6” carli systems require the Carli radius arms, so that makes the choice easy!

      Your best bet is to swap out that lift for a 3” Carli or Thuren set up, and then change your wheels and tires so you have more sidewall. A 20” wheel with a 37” tire still has a great modern look, but will ride night and day better!

    Something along the lines of; Front Coils, Trackbar, Sway bar, Radius Arm drop brackets, tuned Fox 2.0's all around and then for the rear, I would be more than satisfied with just a block for the airbag and a block for the leaf pack.

    • @CJCOffRoad

    You guys use Fox shocks so you can't be to hard, on them. But it's a no brainer man. I have a 4 runner total chaos kit with foxes tripple bypass 2.5 coiloers and bumps and my Chevy have Kings same setup suspension wise heavier truck and hands down. King all the way. I don't mind the foxs. But king Bette ride hands down all the way. Just don't make fox to be better. And I love on so cal and have never had anything happen looks wise to the king's... Hands down better setup also what do the racers race with ? King and some use Fox but you won't get those shocks on the streets those are custom made for racers only. Vs king uses off the shelf what they sell you just times differently.... Those are all true facts. King all the way.

    So why doesn’t King go to Aluminum body ? Common sense.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because aluminum bodies aren’t as durable in high heat situations. King uses the bodies they use for a reason, it’s no accident.

      CJC Off Road Great answer makes sense. Then couldn’t they make the finish more durable ? I’ve been waiting for Fox 2.5 now after that answer may switch to King.

    Why in the hell would king use steal bodies when other big brands use aluminum bodies which is better for heat anyway last thing I want to do with $4,000 shocks is watch them rust

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aluminum bodies can’t take the heat that steel bodies can. If you’re actually out using these trucks in the desert, steel bodies are the only way to get it done!

    Why not compare the King 2.5s to Fox 2.5s lmao.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Realistically they're the same performance wise. Both are top level brands, so what matters is the tuning inside. An untuned shock isn't going to ride well at all, so having something like these Carli custom spec and tuned King shocks is what matters, and Carli simply chose to work with King since they were willing to do the custom tweaks to length, pistons and shim tuning that Carli needed.

  • @JOHNWAYNE1920
    @JOHNWAYNE1920 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maintenance wouldn't be required if they'd just make the body aluminum or stainless. Companies can't make an entire truck out of aluminum or stainless, it's a stupid analogy. For what King shocks cost there is zero excuse for using cheap steal. Call it like it is.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually maintenance is the exact reason that King uses a steel body. An aluminum body doesn't hold up as well as a steel shock body to the heat and wear generated in thousands of miles of heavy off road use. King has the option to use any material they want, but they choose steel because of its strength and wear resistance in punishing off road conditions.

    • @JOHNWAYNE1920
      @JOHNWAYNE1920 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJCOffRoad I'm certainly no expert on shocks but they do use aluminum in space shuttles, engine blocks, heads, wheels, etc etc. I can't help but feel it goes back to cost. Otherwise all else being equal stainless would be the obvious choice. Then it becomes a question of buying a name vs. Quality. I have no problem paying top price but I want the best built, not the most popular name. Irony is I was sold on your king set up before this video but now I'm leaning towards the fox. I clearly need to do more research. At least with carli you know they use nothing but the best and that's why they are worth the price.
