  • Could this be the end for my beautiful Shetland 535?. I have some pretty big decisions to make in 2024

I'm sure whatever desiccation you make will be the right one. I will say one thing, From what I have seen and heard it can take years to become a good enough sailor before crossing Oceans.
You also mentioned a berth in Hull, well I know for a fact they are pricey and there's normally a waiting list (a Buddy of mine had his boat there)
Have a great New Year. 👍👍

I know you'll make your own mind up. I enjoy my small trailerable boat on inland and coastal waters. She has less accommodation than your Shetland. I fish from the boat all day but relish returning to warm comfortable holiday accommodation to chill out relax and prepare for another day out on boat the following day.
Just something to throw into the melting pot.

Sounds great fishing all day long. Different boats fir different causes and there is always going to be a compromise

I had known my wife for a week when we went away for 2 weeks holiday onboard one of my old 535's, she didn't moan and we didn't argue once!
Sailing is great but you have to accept that nature is in control, you have to go to the speed the weather allows you have to sail with the tides etc too, so they dictate the time of day you sail etc.
At sea powerboat= cash poor (because of fuel) but time rich.
Sailing= cash rich but time poor.
If it was me, I would put a 60hp on the Shetland and tow it to more places to launch, be that sea, river or canal.
Don't forget on the sea and if trailer sailing, no licence, no safety certificate, no mooring, saves a fortune!
The Viking you are thinking of is probably the one that is 20 mins from my house, I also know a marine surveyor and BSS guy who has a boat in the same moorings.
