  • Testing out a custom grille and bumper idea on the 1953 Chevy Chicken Truck. Will it fit? Plus: repairing the butchered up drivers side door, building a patch panel and lots of mig welding, tig welding and complaining!

The bumper and grille look great, but you are right... you'd have to go with frenched headlights.
Also, I completely understand not wanting the project run away on you.
Really glad you saved those bits!

The new camera is noticeably better. The grill looked pretty good, but the bumper looked massive. I think that bumper will look even bigger once the top is chopped. I do like the Frenched headlight idea. Q jets ?..... ugh the carb from Hell.

To see Kyle laughing, and to see him looking almost happy, was incredibly terrifying. Ps. Love the work, and the show you are making.
PPS. I will try to copy your style, at least when i comes to your attitude, as I have got a new project. It’s an old wreck, that has been i the woods for some 50 years. All I have to do, is to learn how to make panel parts and how to weld. It’ missing a big part of the floor and the left valance have rotted away from the rest of the car.

I might need to visit a psychiatrist soon; this has become my favourite channel. Am I unhinged?
Was that greater uncle of yours a founder of Herbert, SK?
If I had an address I’d send you a jacket of mine. I like it a lot but it spends too much time on a hanger. It’d make you look a whole lot better than that grill looks on the chicken truck. Ha! Cute! But many may think I’m laying an egg with that opinion.

Nothing beats a day in a junkyard wrenching on old junk, cutting yourself, swearing a lot while running the risk of getting glass stuck in your backside for just the right part. I've been there a few times. Nice save of the grille. That will be the perfect thing for some project and you'll be glad you have it. This is going to be epic when it's done. I think the grill looks good it does a little tweaking to work out better. the bumper looks heavy maybe without the bumper guards, but the ends fit nicely around the fenders, maybe you could take the center section out and extend the bottom of the grill with some kind of a roll pan as a filler.

Good save on the grille. The chrome looks to be in great shape, especially for a Canada car. It could work on the truck, but I'm not sure how the hood could be reworked to flow harmoniously with it. I think I prefer your original plan for the truck, save the grille for a future project. In the meantime it''ll look good hanging on the wall in your living room. 🙂

I like the way you work and in my book do things properly. Getting those doors to fit nicely rather than the famous "it is what it is" statement. Fully restoring a vehicle properly from scrap yard condition is a massive amount of work, especially if your doing it around your day job. It is also quite a large skill set from mechanical work to tin bashing and welding, electrical, painting, and finally sewing and interior work. It took me 2 1/2 years to restore a car where I worked on it most evenings and weekends.

glad you saved the grill and bumper, but personally I think it's too bulky for the chicken truck. I also like the Buick headlight bezels. They give the truck more character in my opinion, but it's your creation so whatever you decide will look good. I've done the "where's my gloves waltz" too. The only difference is I usually end up with a mismatched pair. Great video showing those "little" necessary, time consuming repairs that actually go into these projects. I did a pre-purchase inspection on a BMW 3 series once, and discovered seam welds underneath that should not have been there. The back third of the car had been clipped off. Tons 'O' Bondo in the "C" pillars. Told the customer not to buy it who than told the owner why there would be no deal. Owner stormed up demanding to see the "issue". He had bought the car from a sketchy local body shop and had no idea of the true condition...

Beautiful front grille! This would show your skills and result in an awesome vehicle. Suggest to ditch the Buick headlight bezels and get some large chrome rings? Find another bumper, like you say, this one is way too heavy, or section it? (Yea, I know it is chrome).

I like the grill, bumper and headlight combo.and i think it would fit the design of your truck. With that said I kind of like your jacket. I think a needle and thread would allow you to take it to the next level.

I used to lose my gloves all the time too. I used an ancient stone mason's trick and tied party balloons to them and I haven't lost them since. A quick glance around the shop and I know exactly where they are.

What a classic Sask. shot. Flat as far as the eye can see. 😅.

I'm high enough to like just about anything but the front end seems a little overpowering to me. Keep in mind I have no fashion sense. The speed you work at is amazing. I've never seen anyone swing a big hammer that fast. You might get more done if you worked on it more than 47.18 minutes a week including wandering around the frozen tundra. Mary was worried sick until Poe showed up. Her and Joseph send their love. As far as your coat I have a similar one that is only 3 generations old. I do know it's better than welding in your skivvies and slippers. I have a 53 3100 that I'm working on and this is the most exciting this I have seen. Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the time management advice! I think I might work on it for 48 or 49 minutes this week.

I actually like the heavy frontend treatment with the headlights, grill and bumper - looks tough!
