    Probably the best videos in regards to dash cams on TH-cam!

    Excellent video Ben. I can go either way on wiring, fuse taps or soldering. Fuse taps may be slightly quicker though. Like you mentioned, and what I found on my Subaru, multiple items may be fused on a particular slot.

    " Doctor ! Doctor ! It hurts when I use fuse taps !" Doctor: "Then don't use fuse taps." Use wire taps in locations that won't get disturbed by feet, hands and everything else.

      Yes we are just trying to educate people. As a technician a lot of times we were stressing over hooking up ignition wire. A lot of new vehicles do not have high current ignition. So to find out that we can hook up to an ignition sense as there is no current draw helps us in installing. Where it all goes wrong is when you have these 2 wire hardwire cables that want to be hooked up to ignition like Nextbase for instance. We are just going to refuse to install that brand and a few others now due to the challenges newer vehicles are posing.

    1:24: So the last time i tried to light a smoke in my VW, I had to pull over, go round the back and open the trunk.

    I went to obd2 way cause my 07 tahoe doesn't have any ignition fuses underneath the dash except the one small fuse. Which is for backlight steering wheel which I didn't want to use cause it's only a 2amp circuit.
    If I wanted ignition source I'd have to run a wire to the engine bay fuse box.
    Going the obd2 with an Iroad to a hk4 viofo harness was easy to wire. Cause it only has power and ground from the obd2 with iroad plug. And can be switched to parking mode if want too.

      Most people would have to go under the hood. We have never gone under the hood for any wiring in any vehicle to date. But that is because we are constantly building a wiring database to prevent us from doing that. But I do believe that is a good decision to use an OBD2 cable.

    Excellent video especially for me that I’m trying to put a dashcam on my GX460 with the parking hardwired. I don’t want to run the wire all the way from the pillars down. I found constant power and ignition on the map light console. My question is would I be able to solder there and not using any fuse in between?

    • @SafeDriveSolutions
      @SafeDriveSolutions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is hard to solder up top. 1. The wiring is very short. 2. Make sure you have proper protection as solder could leave a mark on your dash.
      In terms of using a fuse we always do. Some people will argue that the circuit is already fused and not needed. When we do installs we always add a fuseholder or fusetap depending on the dash camera of course.

    Which dash cam would be best to be able to view my car when parked? & is it a better option to purchase a separate battery to avoid battery drainage in the car?

      Blackvue with LTE or a Thinkware U3000 with a hotspot installed. Here is a video to compare. th-cam.com/video/E5XN-2bm9Eo/w-d-xo.html I would definitely recommend a battery pack th-cam.com/video/re3HkcHiPCU/w-d-xo.html

    Is a ground point with a resistance of 1.3 ohms an acceptable ground connection for my dashcam?

      @SafeDriveSolutions  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the dash camera is not drawing lots of power. It should be fine.

      it shows that in the video. it is never right or left. It is which ever side has power is how it is put in.

    My question is, how can I connect an ACC cable, VCC cable, and ground cable to a plug and then to a 12-volt battery? I want to use the battery as a power source instead of a fuse box. How can I do that? For example, for a dashcam kit that requires 12V power. What role does the ACC cable play? Is it positive or negative?

    • @SafeDriveSolutions
      @SafeDriveSolutions  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Accessory is positive. Also can be considered to be switched ignition.
      You cannot hook up directly to a battery. Well you can but it wont switch in and out of parking mode. Is tgere a reason you want to hook it up this way?

      I have seen a lot of videos that say you can damage your engine because there may be an airbag or something else, and you could interfere with them. The fuse box in my car is in very bad condition. To access it, you have to get your head under the dashboard, and it’s very difficult to work there. Therefore, I’ve decided to use the OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port or install FitDrive instead.

    Can i just use powerbanks..?

    You have obfuscated the problem ! You should be answering the question: "What characteristics of power does every particular dash cam wire need ?" 1) Always powered, even when ignition key is off or removed; 2) powered when ignition key is in the 'Accessories power' position; 3) powered only when key is in the 'Run' position. There are only these 3 possibilities. 'KISS' it and find out what each wire needs then find an appropriate fuse or wire to tap into that has it. (KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid !)
