@@kevinmcguinness1113 When I started the guitar, looog time ago, I was also obsessed about who's better than who, but I've long passed that. I realized guitar is about music, not showing off, so there is no "best guitarist". Actually, and contrary to what I believed when I started, the best guitarists are those who can say it all with the fewest notes, which pretty much rules out the virtuosos. Govan dosen't touch me at all, and I've listened to him a lot. Like all the shredders, he plays way too many notes when one, the right one, would suffice. Watching him trying to cover Billy Gibbons, yet a waaaay weaker guitarist technically, was an eye-opener. Now, he is a phenomenal guitarist, of course, but saying that he is "head and shoulders" above such virtuosos as Vai or Satriani merely reveals a fan (discaimer: I'm not a fan of any of the guys you mentionned, so I'm not defending anyone). Thal is amazing, yes, but generally too experimental to really be listened too (that being said, Fly in the Batter guitar parts (bridges and solo) are among my favorite guitar moments, suits my way of thinking about guitar).

It's amazing how some music just firmly ties to a specific moment in your life even when you didn't expect it to. I used to listen to Flatlands when I was doing this crazy ass Silithus grind back in wow classic to get a trinket called Earthstrike. It actually took me several weeks to get it and all those frustrating hours after hours, Flatlands was there to be my faithful companion. And after all these years I come back to this and the memories hit deep man. Come to think of it, Flatlands is a song about flat lands with some tornado shit rampaging through and Silithus is also a barren and flat wasteland of meanacing bugs so that's where they meet I guess. Thank you Brian for this one in a lifetime experience.

I've watched this 100 times and still cant get over how good and tight this is. Congrats mates!
The sound on this is some of the best I've ever heard. That room sounds phenomenal. So intimate.
As it is said “There’s one in every crowd,” and AMONG ALL who ever picked up & played the guitar - past and present -- Govan Guthrie IT IS.
Amen.
I might get a sore jaw from listening to this concert because my jaw is hitting the floor. These three are just so skilled and imaginative. Every musician should check this out.
i love projects like this that invite me to pay attention, to try to follow the time changes, the harmonic structures. the chemistry here is astounding.
I'm watching this with my parrot on my left shoulder. I think he also loves The Aristocrats.
I've had the privilege of watching GG live, twice. I just wish I get a chance to watch him with these two other geniuses.
I could listen to this every day for eternity. Multiple eargasms are guaranteed. Sheesh.
Marco Minnemman is amazing!
Marco is the best!!!
Gutrie!..probably the best guitarist on earth!
Saw them live, one of the best concerts in my life. Great musicians + great people.
I an speechless! Long live rock&roll and God bless these guys!
Marco's virtuosity and style displays best in this band. He is for Aristocrats; Mangini is for DT.
Please keep off this video from youtube!!! It makes me stop playng...but the thing that amazes me most is how can they remember all this music from memory ???? Howww???? Fantastic!!!
I wonder the same. That is insane!
Me too bro
LMAO I just noticed "Mrums" and realized it was deliberate XD
Three incredible musicians all in their element. At the very least you've got to admire the skill and passion on display
I've watched/listened to this probably about 8 times now and I'm still blown away by the musicianship like it's the first time.
me too bro
MM is a true band musician. He can do anything on those drums but he always plays for the song. Unbelievable good and no ego.
Damn these guys are great!!
trip only😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
probablemente una de las mejores bandas, no solo por el nivel tecnico, si no, por el nivel de comunicacion musical. es impresionante como logran comunicarse, son musicos realmente imprecionantes.
Impresionantes...
Mind blown!! I have all the inspiration I need for the rest of my life on guitar (and music in general) after watching this!
The world is grateful they found each other. ❤️
...Guthries solo on Flat Land's is sensational.
Got goosebumps...!
After watching Guthrie play slide guitar without a slide on Flatlands, I now believe he could also play guitar without a guitar...
That’s not correct
@@ohreallycat what's not?
@@ManyThingsSeem he does not play slide guitar on flatlands
@@ohreallycat right... which is exactly what I said... but he does make it SOUND like a slide... 😶
@@ManyThingsSeem you did say that, my apologies
¿Se puede llamar perfección, maestría, a esto? Imaginación, sentimiento, fuerza rítmica.... ¡Qué maravilla!
Siiiiiii amigo mio
Saludos chilenos

I can't get tired of these guys. Flatlands is my favorite song
Whoow they are so good.. I listen to a lot of music, a lot of jazz and the good pop, blues as well as classical. but this guitarist Guthrie Govan is still world class. One of the virtuoso guitarists I've heard. I first heard him in Steven Wilson's band, together with this German drummer Marco Minnemman. Steven Wilson's talent is often get great musicians in his band(s)
Flatlands ❤️...what a composition ,❤️
Agree. It's wonderful!
yeh that main groove hits well. I have had it on repeat all day
Just jaw-dropping. Despite the exotic time sigs and un-namable chords, they still manage to pack more than their share of infectious grooves into every song.
"Despite" it's more like "because of"
OMG!!! It just gets better and better! These guys are opening another door to my mind; the sound they make is the the drug I crave. A new goal for me to reach for when playing and writing my songs... keep it up guys!
Fantastic ! Amazing ! I'm speechless ! Imagine the Aristocrats sharing a bill with Liquid Tension
That bass distortion change on Waves was so smooth !!! Holy..
Funtastic!, very, very creative musicians.... Not even talk about technical skills...
A complete pleasure to see and listen these guys, it made my 2016 hugely much better, thanks a lot!. Peace.
I've watched this loads of times & only just now seen the disappearing fret wrap on GG's guitar at around 45 mins.
That's really strange! Why did they cut?
The sm57 on Guthrie's right Amp might be part of the story.. ;) I noticed that one already earlier on.
Just fantastic - Guthrie's phrases and melody pathway always reminds me of Stanley Clarke, the great bassist.
The best musicians on the planet. I will see them tomorrow in Vancouver. See you guys there.
Absoulutiley in to this world. I hear Jeff beck , frank zappa , and I m not sure what else but pure talent , thank you !!!
very coool !!! me encantaaaa es una de las mejores bandas que e escuchado toda mi vida, realmente fabuloso.
The Liquid Tension Aristocrats
