Went to the G3 concert with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Guthrie Govan in Cologne and could not believe it. Govan went on stage without any Rockstar behaviour. Just a shy guy, pushing the limits to the next level, having fun! The Aristocrats concert last Nov was one of the best things I ever spent money for.
I'm a huge DT fan and they are my favourite band, but I have to admit Guthrie would kick Petrucci's ass at most comparisons, even though both are amazing in their own ways.
You may not believe it, but this song is actually originally written and performed by JUST Marco (drummer). Yes, he played the guitar, bass, and drums on it. He sings and plays keyboard on his own music, as well. Of course, this version is way better.
I disagree...on the studio version with earbuds I believe you can hear the nuances of Marco's drums that (as I believe) define the power of a tornado. Don't believe me...crank it up to 11.
Ha! That could be a good point...I am being swayed by those awesome sounds from the drummer. I will be fair and listen/watch again and pay attention to those other two guys. But truly this is an awesome and powerful song from any perspective!
Good thing they are only a trio. Its already too hard to distribute my praise and awe evenly among those three guys. :) Also, i like guthries overdriven sound much more here than on the album. Like the single note riff from 5:50 on, sound f**** badass but not too compressed.
+triggSerable i think that is because that's not his signature model and probably has a different pickups. And by the looks of Brian at 5:45 he likes it too
6 years late, hehe. But gotta say the Victory v30 he uses is kinda crazy sounding. Killer clean tones and jaw dropping distortion. Got one myself, and its perfect for every gengre
Did anyone else think Guthrie didn't play as well on that guitar? He's talked about hating full size Floyds before because of how they make his hand sit, that might be why.
Does anyone know why Guthrie is using the So Cal instead of his signature model for this song? In the beginning Marco mentions they hadn't been playing it live since they didn't have the right guitar. Wondering what the So Cal brings to this song what his souped up signature couldn't. Double locking floyd for the vibrato work perhaps?
@@ericaube4813 What I'm saying is that its way more than just a "tricky bit", its an absolute inhuman drum performance. Just pointing out how humble hes being.
It's tuned to drop D. If he wanted to play it and still use the floating bridge on his signature he would have to tune all of the strings multiple times.
honestly... he has really bad form when playing the guitar - he will most likely have hand problems when he is older playing like that... - its like programmers who have bad poster - kind of a crude example but if you do something with bad form over years it will have bad effects.
That's how he learned...don't think so...my opinion only cause I don't play like everyone else either & it's not causing me any problems after 32 years!!!!
This has to be the most under rated band on the planet…. God… wake up Earth !!!
Soo true
Yep!

This is one of the coolest fucking songs ever written.
Fucking intensifies during this song... Imagine doing someone while this song is playing in the background. \m/
It is great until the very moment you realize you're paying the music much more attention hahhahaha
Maybe the best band in terms of musicianship per square inch in the history of rock
Square millimeter.
dream theater?

That drummer
It not an MMA fight bro......there is not such thing as a ''guitar comparison''
i'm not a musician. i just listen. these guys are fantastic...
Really cool music doesn't need you to be a musician to enjoy it, at least that's my opinion. :) I love those guys too.
Marco is a fucking machine gun...
Marco's kit sounds so good here.
A Kind of " Vai meets Buckethead meets Rush " 's Affair.
Simply Monstruous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so good !!!!!!!!
just wow….the cohesion and timing is impressive. the melody haunting. great great musicians.
Jeez, these guys are fantastic musicians! Tripped over them on TH-cam and bookmarked. I'll never sound that good on the drums, dammit.
Found my new favourite aristocrats tune!
Heard it before..."my neighbors new favorite song!"?
people buy the Live CD + DVD called Culture Crash its worth every Dollar / Euro
You get the Aristocrats concert feeling for like 13 $
These dudes are awesome... unreached ... the structure how Marco is describing it reminds me a bit on Skyscraper by David Lee Roth...
Thank you so much for this upload, this is pure gold.
It's truly amazing how one can portray a picture without a single word. I love these people.
These are some of the giants that the rest of us stand on the shoulders of.
MASTERPIECE
This is simply extraordinary!!!
this is probably the ONLY song by Marco that I can play on drums....minus 5 thousand notes
Awesome musicians!!!!
You three are totally insane.....ly fantastic
Very very interesting part from 3rd minute to the fourth. Great music and fine artistery!

Randy Lott Absolutely! You know a band is great when the live version is better than studio version.
Randy Lott You can find it on Spotify ;)
I believe you
Saw the video of him writing a song...amazing!!!! Looks so easy....but try playing it!!!!❤ holy ....!!!!!
Sick drum groove
Thought the same, man... that’s another level of drumming
absurdly cool
Better than the record!
Impressive!!
BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!
Love this song...
This is so intense compared to the studio version. Love it.

@@markmark9639 I'm not really pointing out on the drums. It's the guitar and bass that are very powerful in this live version :)
Ha! That could be a good point...I am being swayed by those awesome sounds from the drummer. I will be fair and listen/watch again and pay attention to those other two guys.

I really enjoyed this, thanks.
What I call Instrumental !!!
They are soo good, the could be Zappa's band
Looks like Jake E Lee's axe. Beautiful.
The third part is the Crimson part!
Wow, I live in Escondido.
Did anyone else think Guthrie didn't play as well on that guitar?
He's talked about hating full size Floyds before because of how they make his hand sit, that might be why.
Victory V30 amp!
Guthrie is a best guitar player

Or the So Cal is in an alternate tuning
+blooddumpster so cal is where the desert is in California
+rusko dudesko the water is up north
Don't know, but it seems set up for a total retro sound. Those whammy bar chords are straight out of the early 1960's
def ver surfy.. is that even a word..lol.. damn these guys are tight.. love this dark surfy vibe.. musicianship here is awesome.
Weird... they don't usually let fans on stage.
"Kind of a tricky bit"
ok
Give him credit for his drumming..not his speech...he is German...he speaks 5 or more languages!!!!!!❤ Marco is the best!!!!!
Omuk “weird flex but ok.”
@@ericaube4813 What I'm saying is that its way more than just a "tricky bit", its an absolute inhuman drum performance. Just pointing out how humble hes being.
COMPLETE INSANITY
God damn these guys are good!
Ooopz. See, they made me curse
Chasing the Voodoo Al Dimeola
Guthrie is talented from God
Shades of Gong?
race with the devil on spanish highway?
Is that Charvel the mexican one or the custom shop one?
Uvedevaca it's a So Cal model, I don't know if it's a Mexican model but it is for sure not a Custom Shop one
Al DiMeola
this song is called guthries
1:41
For the song to start
+Sheldon Cooper81 but you'll miss Marco's storytime! :(
Pier-Luc Tardif
Yes i actually like his Stories
What's with the White guitar, doesn't the GG stay in tune as well?
It's tuned to drop D. If he wanted to play it and still use the floating bridge on his signature he would have to tune all of the strings multiple times.
they should play more pentatonic scales
Is it me or does the SoCal sound better than Guthrie's signature? :/
+dwftube It definitely has better note definition... but to me those pickups are too bright, kinda skreechy.
he also plays the lighter overdriven stuff very close to the bridge for the twangy sound.
Maybe he should have gone with the Jake E Lee configuration: more meat on the high strings; more bite on the low tones.
ZLATAN IN BASS??? JAJA
He stops talking about 1:40
Like si viniste por Jorge Lopez
Sorry but I don’t get it
@James Connor
Well You dont have to be Sorry
honestly... he has really bad form when playing the guitar - he will most likely have hand problems when he is older playing like that... - its like programmers who have bad poster - kind of a crude example but if you do something with bad form over years it will have bad effects.
He has been playing like that for 40 years and it hasn't seemed to have slowed him down one bit of a 1/64th note.
What are you talking about?
That's how he learned...don't think so...my opinion only cause I don't play like everyone else either & it's not causing me any problems after 32 years!!!!
Dude you're talking to Guthrie govan here... I think you've been missing a lot
