      ... and lay down some of the tastiest fusion you've ever heard!
      I've been fortunate to have seen them two times prior and a third time coming up next Tuesday. I also spent a fair amount of time hanging out with Guthrie during Petrucci's JPGU2.0 event back in 2018 and I'll never forget it. He's the nicest dude you could ever meet, extremely humble about his own success, and will gladly spend time with his fans given the opportunity. He and I were hanging out with a couple other people until 4 AM one of the nights there, trying to figure out how to get more beer delivered 😂

    I’m not the biggest fan of Guthrie because I’m a blues and classic rock guy… but I truly believe IMO is he is the greatest living guitarist and maybe even the GOAT because of his technical ability and versatility to play any style and do it at the highest level. Humble living legend with such a likeable personality

    • @philgallagher1
      @philgallagher1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Agreed (although I am a HUGE fan!). The thing nobody really comments about is that 80% of what he plays live is IMPROVISED. They have a start that is planned, and an end goal, but the bit in the middle is almost always made up on the spot. In my opinion he is clearly the best there has ever been. I say that because he can play EVERYTHING the greats played (Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Beck, Gilmour etc. etc.) as well as, if not better than, they did, and on top of that he also has his own style that is so far ahead of today's guitarists. Now that he's discovered "Digital" music, I'm quite scared to see where he goes next!

      I’ve always Aspired to do this - I was music director for an amateur stage musical at an anime convention, of all places - and so I made sure every single instrument had a consistent DI feed, with a small speaker onstage for stage sound. That saved us so much time & headache, on what was already a very technically complex production for a bunch of Mostly Cosplayers, and the sound guy was v pleased.
      Ya got some musicians lookin out for y’all - being able to tell them “I only need One DI into the soundboard for my signal” is one of my fav things about gig setup now

      He's one of the rare cases where a modeling rig actually makes more sense.
      Guthrie can just vibe in any style so fluidly that a rig that can do this much without a fridge full of racks probably makes touring better in every way for him.
      Most people don't need a fractal and could benefit from committing to the sound of one amp, Guthrie Govan is not most people.
      A lesser guitarist can get lost with endless possibilities...for Guthrie it's like Goku taking off his weighted clothes 🤣

    Guthrie looks like a guitar mad scientist with that doc brown hair. What an absolutely brilliant player. Love the Star Trek reference.

    In 1991 when I first met Guthrie at Chelmsford Boys Club he was already an astoundingly brilliant improviser with a compelling musical mind

    I recently went up from 9s to 10s, and then to 11s on one of my guitars! Love the tonal difference. I'd used 9s for 16+ years.

    I love the way Guthrie is so humble about his ability. He always seems to be looking at interviewers as if to say "Was that OK?" when in fact he has done something that we mere mortals can only dream of!
    I also don't think this interviewer is old enough to have recognised the opening to the original Star Trek!

    Guthrie's modesty is probably part of how he became a virtuoso, being that his focus while learning as a young bloke was front and center, rather than being the opposite and stopping his advancement once he thought he'd cracked it, so to speak. All round amazing guy who deserves his great life in music that we all get to enjoy, full stop. This is just my small opinion of how I understand greatness.
