Travis Solo bass at 20:00, Just superb. I was at this gig near the front. No singing . No keyboards. No whammy bar. Every note clear as crystal. World class and then some.

😮 amazing, killer 335 crisp blues playing , sweet jazz tones, fusion funk feels , lots of nuances, spaces, melodic and harmonic surprises. Master of his craft.

and the little ching ring hung on the snare damping knob is an example; Coyle gets texture in the cross sticking, not something anyone would notice consciously, but with everything else, brains respond bigly.

Way back when......1976ish saw LC with Jeff Porcaro, Mike Porcaro and Greg Mathison at Donte's in North Hollyweird with about 30 people present. It was a regular Friday night gig for these giants. They really kicked out the jams after a week doing sessions all week. The set always started with a ten minute version of Room 335. Jeff Porcaro always played an un-miked drum set. We sat where ever we wanted. It was a magic scene for about a month. Pretty soon we were waiting in line to see the same band at the Baked Potato. One night during the opening raucous tune, Jeff Porcaro [RIP] put his foot through the kick drum head, At the end of the song JP announced to the band that he had broken his kick drum head. The other members of the band said in unison that they didn't t notice the lack of this very talented right foot. I play drums professionally and I always carried a spare. I wondered how JP would save the gig. He told the band to play a ballad and he scurried into the Hollywood night to find a replacement. In record time JP was back with a new head and within 5 minutes they were back at full strength. If you ever visit lLA and you have never been there you owe your self the pleasure of an evening at the Baked Potato ......................

Yeah, back in the days at the Spud when Larry Carlton played jamming actual fusion lead guitar licks instead of the boring mainstream jazz he decided to sadly go to and bore me to tears with ever since. What happened to the old great fusion jamming lead guitar shredding Larry Carlton? When was the last time he ever played "Point It Up" or "Tight Squeeze" in concert? This show here isn't bad it's just sort of boring music compared to those old days your talking about.

There’s just something beautiful and elegant about the angle at which LC holds the guitar -it’s so consistent, so solidly seated, so natural and controlled, truly an extension of his body. Watching him play is like watching a world class athlete. I can think of a few other greats whose physical form is similarly natural and elegant: Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Tony Rice, McLaughlin. Contrast that with, say, the wild physicality of other greats like Page, Hendrix, or EVH.

I dont know if you youtube friends viewers remarked how Travis Carlton is able to give so much expression in his bass play even in more rythmic parts of the music ..he always pulls (or gives) expression from his instrument !

Refreshing. Beautiful spaces between notes, not swamped with non-stop runs.

One of the greatest studio musicians of all time. When you look at the credits on albums his name is everywhere.

Saw him play that in Alpharetta Georgia. Was privileged to sit about 3 ft away from him. Third time at the Velvet Note....it was an awesome show!
