I agree with you not only are they not making the SVR trim anymore but there's something about the new design that is jarring to me it's undoubtedly the new front grill I just don't like it but I like everything else I have to wonder if financial reasons played a part in them not making the SVR trim anymore I hope they reconsider.
I would also suspect that other players in the price bracket and more mechanical reliability also played a role but I'm not sure I've read many reports saying that jaguars are a pain in the neck to work on and my father before the 2008 collapse he loved them but he always said the same thing and he was a dealer

matt manley They’re still making the F-Type SVR but under a new name. F-Type R. Same V8 pumping 575 hp with 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 186mph. Weird performance is worse than the previous generation.

Joe you always crack me up with your "high speed run warmup routine"! My favorite part is watching the car behind you in the rearview mirror disappear when you floor it. I know how that feels as I have a 2012 XK-R with (only) 510 HP version of this engine, and when the F-Type came out I wasn't really wowed. I still think the XK looks better but 2017 was the year the F-Type caught my attention. The aero, the sound, the priority of sport more than luxury; this is when it actually became different enough from the XK for me to actually consider adding to my collection. Mine is 8 years old and roars like a---well, you know! :-)

That was a fun review - I really enjoy your "dramatic humor"! Coincidentally I bought an SVR 2 months ago after being in Stuttgart to visit my son and taking in all the Porsche magic. Emotions are known to make the biggest decision, and we both thought the F Type was the car we longed for even if some of the numbers would say otherwise and I have been a Porsche fan for 40 years.. The looks and sounds of that thing are the killer surprise pounce!

Personally I think so and I love the F-Type I've even had the pleasure of seeing one in real life. I think the main problem with Jaguar is that they are really expensive and I'm no mechanic but I've heard that they're incredibly prone to mechanical problems as well.
If I'm wrong on this I would love some correction but I do think the SVR is one of the most gorgeous exhausts notes on the market it's sad that they are not making the trim anymore and personally I don't know what it is but I don't particularly love the redesign of the car itself I think you already reviewed the new refresh I'm not sure.
Personally I like the old look here and I like the SVR trim but the f type as a whole you don't see a lot of them and that's why it makes them special.

"Awesome car, and it only had 15 miles on it. It drove great til June of 2016 when I got a check engine light, took it in and they said it was a fuel door issue. 20 miles later the light goes off.. and then it comes back on, I take it in.. same thing happens aka "Fuel door was open". I finally got that fixed when they replaced the fuel door.
Current time spent at dealer: 4 days
Next was my speakers, they had a huge buzz coming from any song with a bit of bass so they ripped out my speakers on both doors and replaced them.. didn't fix it. Ended up being a software update for the speakers.
Current time spent at dealer: 10 days
Exhaust leak started happening with my car so they replaced the exhaust system because it started triggering CEL's (again).
Current time spent at dealer: 20 days
For a year, absolutely nothing happened until around October of 2017 my supercharger decided to implode on itself because I started hearing a ticking noise with RPM, but no CEL.. ended up that the S/C housing itself got loosened up and started developing belt slap aka (super loose S/C belt). This is where my journey begins...
Dropped it off in Late October.. had the supercharger replaced which took 20 days and they got my car back.
Current time spent at dealer: 40 days
I get in the car, instantly I hear the sound again and drive it back. They tear the motor apart a few days later and find it was extremely low on oil and started knocking (1 liter of 5 liters was actually in the motor and the oil meter DIDN'T work + no CEL's at all). They order a new motor for me as well as another supercharger to get it all in in one-go.
Current time spent at dealer: 70 days
A whole month goes by and they say the motor is here and they should be up and running in about a week or two.
Current time spent at dealer: 100 days
Another month goes by and they tell me a tech screwed up and stripped a chassis bolt that connects the motor to the frame and needs to order a back-ordered part... and they kept this up til 80 days later, I get a call telling me they ended up just welding the bolt back in and gave it to me.
Current time spent at dealer: 185 days
First thing I notice driving the car out of the dealership is there is some power steering whine on full lock that is VERY prevalent and that the car thumps (you feel a thud in the foot well) when going in between gears like reverse and drive or even a brief start accelerating (very noticeable) and luckily I have already been talking to Jaguar and started this process a while ago to get a replacement car but they have been VERY slow to communicate.
Now the car just sits in my garage because I'm too scared something will break if I hit (accelerate) it, it almost sounds like the transmission is loose in the car so I'm letting it sit til they have to come get it."

I looked at one a few months ago and was just blown away.It was a 2017 SVR with 12k miles for 58k.When I checked Carfax--it had been bought back by the dealer under the lemon law--which is not just someone angry or regretting a purchase--it had to have some thing really and provably wrong. Was told the car was sluggish and had electrical glitches and was fixed by jaguar.Luckily I have an honest friend who works at Toyota--as a mechanic--he has no bias and just gives honest opinions. He said they--like you said are spotty and expensive to repair--bTW he said all the European cars are called lemons.I bought a stinger Gt with AWD after doing research. The KIA was beat up in the desert for millions of miles--german and European cars are tested in the cooler European areas where it is cool and they can run wide open--which is actually good for a car--because it blows out carbons and deposits. One last thing--I had to take a business trip and got a brand new rental a6 AUDI--6k miles--is a 70k car.I will write a review--but the AUDI was more comfortable interior better then the stinger--but not twice as much and the kicker. The AUDI had one thing I loved--the center dash had a feature for a 3d nav/map/GPS.Man it was the only thing I really would have liked on my stinger--it stopped working right after I past chatanooga on the way to Nashville and never came back on--an orange light flicked--some arning--then a digital compass appeared. My phone GPS had to be used--and my escort radar had GPS and was also getting a signal--also the MPH were in MPH--but the fuel mileage--torque--temp and all the other info was in KMH and NM and kilometers per min or something for gas.Found out car had to have a computer reset only 2 European cars I drove or considered buying and both were nearly new/new and already had problems.

FYI while in dynamic mode, pull it over in sport but don't touch the paddles.. you will fine another BEAST mode.. then you will see that 8 Speed ZF really come to life.. only draw back is once you touch a paddle it stays in manual until you move the shiftier back to normal.. LOVE Mine, SVR would be a nice upgrade.

I don't like them cause they got early 2000 ford focus headlights and no back seats.I wish they continued the XK and just gave it the F-Type rear end for a new body style and make the back seats with enough room in the back seats to sit in like a mustang or Camaro

Leno said it best, "I don't know if the F-Type handles better than the 911, buts its certainly a lot faster." It handles better, too.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I rather go 911.

    • @FFE-js2zp
      @FFE-js2zp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Your drive overlooks four main things:
      (1) The SVR is a slower GT version of the original F-Type sports car. "Sports car" meaning, a purpose built, soft top, 2 seater with racing power. The 911 is a 4 seat family sedan with rear weight bias. The 911s successor, the 928 is a much better comparison to an SVR as it was a massive improvement as a front mid-engine 50/50 V8 GT, but 1977 is just too much of a time gap to cover.
      (2) The 911 predates the sound wars the original F-Type started, and the SVR post-dates it. Any June 2016+ F-Type has the sound reduced software, sadly. A dealer "upgraded" my 2014 software once. If Jag hadn't developed a patch-back due to the bevy of owner complaints, I don't know what would have happened. Its takes the car from a 10 to a 4. Still, way better than any Porsche, but not original F worthy.
      (3) Styling is subjective, but I think all would agree the 911 is the poster child of dated styling, and most would agree the original 1938 Type 64 is still the most modern looking car in the 911/Beetle family. Porsche tried with the awesome 928, but found 911 owners buy the past not the future. IOWs, they want a recognizable "Porsche."
      (4) Because the F's AJ133 ships so detuned due to ZF8HP70 official torque limits, a mild $1000 tune brings back the 10L displacement (5L @ 2 atmospheres) 700HP/700 ft-lbs the F-Type was meant to be. Yes, we are over-torquing the amazing transmission, but the ZF8 handles it with ease. The 911 Turbo S 6 cylinder just can't reach into the same torque class as an unleashed, but quite reasonable 10L V8. The F is so much faster on the street its not a contest.
Granted, mine is RWD 3600 pounds @ 700 HP vs your SVR GT's 3900 @ 575. And then there is perhaps the biggest difference, I'm on Cup 2s vs Jags OEM passenger car tires. 🤷

Velocity AP is solid. Don't let clueless reviewers who spend a minute or two driving the car regurgitate urban legend. 911s are in no way competitive with the monster F-Type. In fact, the F-Type has two 911 size engines and the same or less weight in a pure Jag sports car.
The 911 is intended to be a family sedan with child seating that is reality is very slow by comparison, plus has Porsche's bottom in the world build quality. The 911 is ranked dead last among all cars by the repairpal database that objectively analyzes tens of millions of repair invoices. Porsches are disgraceful cars, ranked 32 of 32 of all manufacturers, complete junk. Look at the data.
If you want a good, amateur side-by-side, check out Christina Kahlil's (a popular underwear model) drive of the two one after the other. She compares an original 495HP F-Type to a 911. Bottom line, driving the F was "the best day of my life." "The 911 was the slowest and most disappointing car I have driven so far."

Being brutally honest...the SVR is basically a Type-R with a few upgrades here and there. Mainly to the wheels, exhaust (R is split-piped) and interior. Other than that, and a few other things, not too much. Both are lighting-fast!

I took my $78K check and drove back to Jacksonville. This dealer treated me like shit! Love the reviews but there's one in particular I'm waiting for although I have my doubts that even you with your magic powers would be able to possibly review the new 911 turbo s? Hope to see it soon. If I could physically drive I would either drive a 911 turbo or a GT4.
I have a bit of a soft spot for Porsche and seeing both of these in real life and hearing them Not that it matters but yeah just so you know I can't even physically drive So watching your videos it's kind of cathartic for me a guy can dream.
