@@skrrtgarage3922 I’ve never found an R AWD coupe vs SVR coupe drag race video. I’ve found this race with the R as a convertible but that is not exactly apples to apples. Does an apples to apples R vs SVR drag race video exist?
This is very interesting. I recently purchased a 2019 SVR and am loving it. The carbon fiber rear wing + titanium exhaust + 200 mph bragging rights were the reasons I only wanted the SVR trim. There is one thing I might want to add tho, in the rolling races, I don't think the SVR's VMAX mode was activated because the spoiler is active. In V-MAX, spoiler stays down and full power in unleashed (according to Jag). I wonder if this would mattered. V-MAX is the mode you need to activate to hit 200 mph
Excellent video and also surprised at how close they were in the tests.. My 2015 R pops and bangs through the quiet little English villages much to the pleasure of fellow petrol heads and kids! They hear you coming from miles away and are not disappointed when they turn round and see such a beautiful piece of art. Many thanks again 👍
My 2018 R has most of the features in the 2017 SVR (including the carbon fiber interior, the CF hood vents/mirror cap/roof, and the illuminated door foot plate etc etc) except for the quilted seats. However, like I said before, the 2015R that I had was fun for the dramatic burnouts!
Rwd vs awd in rolling race the rwd will do definitely better even if it has 25 less hp .. but it also weights almost 80kg less and better drivetrain power loss
Interesting results and a good follow-up on some reasoning as to "why". I wanted an SVR, but I only wanted RWD for autocross and track, so I got the British Design Edition instead (Fantastic looks and uniqueness, but RWD - 2017). After the warranty is out, I'll be tuning it just a bit to get that "extra" that everyone wants.

The ZF8 has as little as 2% loss in RWD config. The rear diff might add 5-7%. The 15% WAG is for a typical automatic over past decades. A RWD R has a higher power to weight ratio, even before any of that.
You are correct about the 1-2% in the ZF. That is an exceptionally efficient transmission being that it has a full locking converter that locks in all 8 gears. So no slip, it has very little loss. The differential is also correct at 7% loss, being the most loss component in the drivetrain. One thing you are overlooking is the accessories and friction losses that are not insignifigant. Hod Rod magazine did a dyno special about it online about how much accessories actually pull power from the engine. A simple engine fan dyno'd 6% loss on just the engine cooling fan, you have Supercharger loss, Alternator, A/C Compressor, Oil pump, 2 Direct Injection Fuel Pumps running off the Crank and the Cams, Water Pump, and then there are frictional losses in the pulleys, cams, timing belts and tensioners and rotating assembly, Tire losses in rolling resistance, and wheel bearing losses. People incorrectly assume that modern technology has eliminated the 20% drivetrain losses from modern powerplants as I see forums with people using 5-10% loss as a regular thing. I do not think this is the case for anyone but Porsche. For FR layout, we still have 20+% DL, except manufacturers can now make more power than advertised with ease. I heard Jaguar had this engine at 650-700HP on their dyno's on development cycles. This would make sense because that is realistically what the engine would have to make to have 550HP {LEFT OVER} after total DL sapped the motor of power. We haven't even gone into heat soak and heat losses that modern Jags are known for. With more and more accessories being put in cars, I believe the DL is over 20% not under. AWD makes it even worse.
You are right with your findings on the loss of power to the wheels on 4WD. This was confirmed to me a while ago by Jag Service manager. Makes you realise the 2WD is a lot better than the later model (non SVR) 4WD which only generates the same 550HP. Unless of course you drive in slippery conditions. Apparently if you run newer stickier tyres than the original P Zeros you can bring down the 0-60 times significantly on the 2WD also.

Weight is always the enemy of cars. Drive train losses are real but it’s the extra weight of the AWD system that makes the biggest difference. Normally the front wheels are only getting 10% of the power so drive train losses are actually not that high. You can see this in the identical highway fuel economy between 2015 RWD and 2016+ AWD versions. That said, the AWD is worth the weight. Not only does it help standing starts but throw in some curves and the AWD cars have an advantage. And heaven help you if you get caught in bad weather or on a low traction surface without the AWD. Sad thing is the R just isn't sleeker. The drag Cd of the R is .37 and the drag Cd of the SVR is .34. That is a really big difference not to mention there is no lift on the SVR at 200mph terminal velocity that it can achieve. There is lift on the R and it can only go 186mph, probably showing the difference in Cd with similiar power. At high speeds above 150mph, the SVR is worth it. Below 150 it cannot beat the efficiency of RWD. All race cars are RWD for a reason. I was looking at the specs of a 20' SVR and it is signifigantly faster than the 17' SVR. Like .8 seconds in the quarter mile. Wonder what they did to it. I am sure it is programming and not hardware, and I wonder if you can remap the old SVR to the 20's programming.
2 great cars! That's a very high spec SVR, essentially all the exterior carbon that you could option (lovely colour, Ultra Blue Metallic). Love your vids on the F type. Don’t like the fixed spoiler though. The rear and side profile on the f type is so beautiful, whenever I see one with a fixed spoiler on it, it just ruins it ( in my opinion).
Skrrt Garage. Agreed, definitely looks more beefed up, but yours just looks awesome without trying too hard! Definitely would chose yours everyday. Keep up the good work, looking to get my hands on an F type later this year, been looking at them for ages!!!!
Sami Pitts. Yeah noticed that on the video, looks pretty good in operation, I just meant it’s constantly there and I prefer the lines of the car without it.
I posted a video of it at the track yesterday on ftype owners club. The bright green one. It will not hook at all. Need a drag radial or something at this point
Great stuff yet again Conner... What sort of speed are you getting to in the clips mate, looking at your spoiler that pops up around at 65mph, you are exceeding that by a fair bit.
What model year was the SVR? After 2018 a PPF filter was added to all cars and it makes them a little bit quieter. Also loved the vid bro. About to purchase an R AWD myself so your vids have helped a bunch.
@Skrrt Garage/Conner, Dude can you please ask your buddy with the SVR if he had his car in V-MAX Mode when he lost to you? I would love to know if this V-Max mode actually makes a difference in the comparison and also find out from someone in Germany if this mode is only for trying to maximize top speed. Thanks Tim The Jaguar Owners Manual says this: STORED SPOILER For maximum top speed (V-Max), the spoiler is stored to reduce drag. It works in conjunction with the front spoiler and other aerodynamic enhancements to bring a drag coefficient improvement of 7.5 percent and lift coefficient reduction of 45 percent. V-MAX In order to achieve 200 mph* you must consciously prepare your F-TYPE SVR Coupe. Select 'Dynamic Mode' and press the deployable aerodynamic spoiler switch for three seconds to enable V-Max Mode. While active, a permanent symbol appears on the instrument cluster. In this mode the spoiler remains stored at all speeds, keeping drag to a minimum. REAR UNDERFLOOR AND DIFFUSER The smooth rear underfloor reduces drag, while the rear diffuser works with the rear underfloor to manage airflow, adding to the stability of the F-TYPE SVR. *Always
I don’t believe the owner had it in vmax mode. We only got up to 135 so I don’t believe the drag would have been enough quite yet. I would like to know though, maybe we can get another drag race going
@@skrrtgarage3922 Yes, that would be Awesome if you can do another one with him being in V-Max Mode. From what I heard, (can not find anything concrete though) V-Max is not only for drag, but it's suppose to unleash it's full power. Can not see what full power would/could be. It's rated at 575HP, maybe the mapping changes?
I have, the electric steering in the 2016+ is honestly still great. If that’s the only thing holding you back from a 2016+ then I wouldn’t worry about it.
I always said that there is no reason to pay 25k more for 25 extra horses. This is 1k/horse! :) that was the reason I bought the ‘17 R instead of the SVR. But to be honest, I was not expecting that kind of performance from the ‘15 model!! WOW! An interesting race will be the ‘17 R vs ‘17 SVR, or you may think putting some convertible R’s in a race with the coupe!
Skrrt Garage very curious!! I wish I could bring mine for some races, just to have fun and put smile in our face as this car always does when you drive it! :)
Would love to see you both at a track as opposed to a built-up area. However, that said, owning a 2014 f type r rwd. I'm really intrigued with the differences visually over the newer model and svr version. I bought the rwd over the awd purely because of the feeling of rwd, so it's great to have those extra facts and be proved right in my ideas and opinions after all 😂 The rwd just makes you feel alive. 😉 great video and nice motor 😉
Skrrt Garage no because I had the tune for 2 years now. There’s plenty of before data online! Didn’t bother as I bought the car new. Car did quarter mile 11.52 at 121.5 mph stock so I knew it made every bit of its advertised power
Dang I didn’t realize how long it’s been tuned for lol. I had my first mechanical issue with my car this last week(video about that soon) so I’m fixing that this week and will get tune on shortly after.
Do you know how the power is distributed in normal vs dynamic mode in an AWD R model? What % goes to the front vs. rear? I have a 2016 R and would love to know. :)
I’ve seen varied answers to that question. Usually 63% rear and 37% front. But I’ve also seen people says it’s 100% rear until it needs traction up front... so I’m not sure, I would guess 63/37
It is probably worth noting that RWD R Coupe has a bit shorter gearing than the SVR, which adds it another advantage in acceleration except from lower weight and less drivetrain losses. We have the same situation - I own 2014 R Coupe and my friend has 2017 SVR. In rolling race, I win everytime... and same as on your film - it is not by just a hint. R Coupe is just faster when AWD and even SVR, when they lose their initial grip advantage. Also as written, RWD can give you more fun ;) If you want a really nasty exhaust, I once heard R Coupe with Capristo catback. You can scare people off the pavements with it ;)
Take a look at www.automobile-catalog.com and see differences on speeds in gears Early RWD (2013-2015) and later AWD (2016+) versions. Same is about the engine. BTW looking at some dyno results, as you have shown there is a question whether there is any real power difference between 550 and 575HP versions...
That monica got a chuckle out of me. Have a like for that. I've been driving a V8s F-type since 2015 and I am going back and forth on considering if I should get an SVR. The new model is ugly and the new gas filter killed the sound
Thanks the for like and comment! I agree on the sound, it’s definitely muted. Although the new design is growing on me, I agree the headlights were a bit of mess up
Thanks dude, great comparison between the two models, I'm a 2wd fan all the way! I live in South Africa, recently bought a V8s and looking forward to getting the VAP tune and pulley, very interested to hear your opinion on that once you've installed it.
I think the R models are faster than the SVR models.I think if you only good at shifting gears yourself, that's the only true way to bring out the SVR power. If yall were both in Automatic and that SVR was getting beat like that...then idk lol i think the bad shifting made the SVR lose
Wow, the way that SVR wing raises and extends backwards! I think the R is as close to the SVR on a drag as makes no difference. That SVR will top out at 200mph!
@@gunner5916 I think it will slightly increase a little. I think there are less than 800 15R coupes in the US. The 15r coupe are unique, and only for that 1 year they were made that way.
Great video. I m starting to consider an F Type R. Seems like a very fun, engaging car. Interesting that the older model won but you explained why So the SVR is drastically overpriced when compared to your car. The intake probably added 10-15 HP also which would make it faster. A wing and some carbon fiber lips on all sides would make this look just as aggressive outside and it’s already faster

That's a very high spec SVR, essentially all the exterior carbon that you could option (lovely colour, Ultra Blue Metallic).
My 2018 F-Type SVR is almost identical apart from blue stitching to the quilted parts of the seats & door cards.
That isn't suede, by the way, it's alcantara.
(your carbon bladed wheels look better👍)
Thanks man! I do love the carbon blades, although now I kinda want yellow calipers 😅
@@skrrtgarage3922 An update for you, sold my SVR coupe.
But don't worry, replaced it with a brand new SVR coupe (in Velocity Blue Premium) that had been sitting at the Jaguar dealer since March. (most car dealers were closed for several months due to COVID-19)
Apparently it's the last 'old shaped' SVR coupe in the UK. ( AND I saved almost £40k on the list price - dealers are struggling to get rid of stock so there are a lot of 'bargains to be had👍)
The SVR rear diffuser, is that centre added piece added on/bolt on? Or is it all one piece. That door sill is a add on from Jaguar, I have it on my 2015 V8S.
I’m not sure, I haven’t worked on one 🤷
I have a 2018 F-Type R. I do like the spoiler of the SVR but is it worth the money? I was surprised that it kind of fell flat on the road compared to the R. My R does have the blue lighted entry panels. I am not a fan of the "quilted" look. Just looks too Adam's family.
Haha very true
Hey guys! Awesome video! Quick question, in terms of exhaust, which one was LOUDER? And in terms of crackles, which one had BETTER/ LOUDER crackles?
You need to adjust your cameras a little better when you race. Because we can't see how far someone is ahead by the angle you have
I have them set in “wide” view.. the standard view cut the cars off. One day if TH-cam ever pays mE anything I’ll be able to afford a few more cameras to get better angles hah
My next car was gonna be a 2017 svr in firesand orange and go for a pulley and tune but after seeing that roll race im almost thinking if a 15 with a pulley and tune would be better? Speaking from a performance aspect
Both are awesome! You could always just tune the svr? I’m sure it would be fast enough lol
Pulley and a tune is up next for me. Round 2 and a win soon after! 😉🏁
Love your vids on the F type. Don’t like the fixed spoiler though. The rear and side profile on the f type is so beautiful, whenever I see one with a fixed spoiler on it, it just ruins it ( in my opinion).
I appreciate it man! The SVR intakes and wing definitely make it looks more beefed up, whereas the standard f type is more traditional look
Skrrt Garage. Agreed, definitely looks more beefed up, but yours just looks awesome without trying too hard! Definitely would chose yours everyday. Keep up the good work, looking to get my hands on an F type later this year, been looking at them for ages!!!!
The wing on the SVR is not fixed, it's active aero.
That’s awesome man!
Sami Pitts. Yeah noticed that on the video, looks pretty good in operation, I just meant it’s constantly there and I prefer the lines of the car without it.
That blue Jaguar light you see on the door sill is an option you could’ve gotten back then. I even had it on my 2014 Jaguar F-Type V8S Convertible
It looks like the awd in svr makes difference.
It really does!
Which ones sounds better bcz I want to but he one that sounds better
They both sound really really good, I didn’t think one sounded better than the other honestly
I posted a video of it at the track yesterday on ftype owners club. The bright green one. It will not hook at all. Need a drag radial or something at this point
No way? What tires are you running?
@@skrrtgarage3922 Michelin pilot super sports. They have more miles on them now so maybe that hurts since my stock run but doubt it will matter.
Yea especially with 650hp now!
I also have raced a SVR, in the situation most of us drive in every day .... it’s the one that gets the jump will usually win 😎
Right on!
I've got a 2017 F-type R convertible and it has the same blue lighted Jaguar door plates.
I would like to see race between f-type and M5/6.
Might have already setup 👀
Done it a couple of times in my 2017 R, it always wins,
That SVR is much faster, by all due respect I think the SVR needed a more experienced driver. I love both the cars and good video guys, stay safe.
The svr is for sure faster on a dig race. The rolls seems like a toss up but who knows, maybe the RWD FTR is a factory freak
Great stuff yet again Conner... What sort of speed are you getting to in the clips mate, looking at your spoiler that pops up around at 65mph, you are exceeding that by a fair bit.
A couple of the races went to about 120-130
Great video. If the SVR had the same upgrade modifications- intake and Velocity AP- I wonder if it would change the results?
I thought the exhaust was a deeper sound on the R, where as the svr has a higher pitch..
Yea.. in person I felt like the crackles were higher pitch on the R. But who knows
*Yeah, More Powerful Cars Tend To Have A Higher Pitch*
I like how the spoiler on the svr slides up
Me too, it’s not as noticeable as the R but it’s a cooler for sure
What model year was the SVR? After 2018 a PPF filter was added to all cars and it makes them a little bit quieter. Also loved the vid bro. About to purchase an R AWD myself so your vids have helped a bunch.
I believe it was a 2017, so it should be the louder version. Thanks!
Skrrt Garage also one more thing bro. How is it over speed bumps? Need to go over them to get out my street
Thanks Tim
The Jaguar Owners Manual says this:
STORED SPOILER
For maximum top speed (V-Max), the spoiler is stored to reduce drag. It works in
conjunction with the front spoiler and other aerodynamic enhancements to bring
a drag coefficient improvement of 7.5 percent and lift coefficient reduction of
45 percent.
V-MAX
In order to achieve 200 mph* you must consciously prepare your F-TYPE SVR
Coupe. Select 'Dynamic Mode' and press the deployable aerodynamic spoiler
switch for three seconds to enable V-Max Mode. While active, a permanent symbol
appears on the instrument cluster. In this mode the spoiler remains stored at all
speeds, keeping drag to a minimum.
REAR UNDERFLOOR AND DIFFUSER
The smooth rear underfloor reduces drag, while the rear diffuser works with the
rear underfloor to manage airflow, adding to the stability of the F-TYPE SVR.
It's rated at 575HP, maybe the mapping changes?
curious if you've driven a 16+ type R to see if there is a noticeable difference since they changed steering set-up 2016+
I have, the electric steering in the 2016+ is honestly still great. If that’s the only thing holding you back from a 2016+ then I wouldn’t worry about it.
My F -Type R V8 Is amazing I also have a XJ Re-Mapped to 350BHP and its insane its just a pity it doesn't have the soundtrack like my F-Type
Yea that’s true, I wish that f the v8 soundtrack was in all my cars haha
I always said that there is no reason to pay 25k more for 25 extra horses. This is 1k/horse! :) that was the reason I bought the ‘17 R instead of the SVR. But to be honest, I was not expecting that kind of performance from the ‘15 model!! WOW!
An interesting race will be the ‘17 R vs ‘17 SVR, or you may think putting some convertible R’s in a race with the coupe!
Would be interesting! I’m trying to get a couple more races going here soon
Skrrt Garage very curious!! I wish I could bring mine for some races, just to have fun and put smile in our face as this car always does when you drive it! :)
Seriously! That would be fun
It's all drivetrain loss in the awd. The two wheel drive puts more power to the ground plus weighs less
Yep! Said the same thing
What's the 0-60 mph time and quarter mile? I'm considering a 2018 M4, 2018 rs7 and I been also looking at the SVR.
3.2-3.6 on the svr depending on tires. Quarter mile in the mid to high 11’s. All great cars 👍🏼
Thanks for the great videos on the F-Type, keep posting more. The SVR it's my dream car for sure. Cheers from the Alps in Switzerland.
I appreciate that, thank you!
Both cars are amazing, Works of Art.
They really are!
Nice! Finally a good comparison ! Is that SVR healthy? Full compression on that motor? Bad fuel? The SVR is lighter and +25 hp ???
Dude I know! I’m so excited to install it! The amg gt63 owner still thinks he will win.. so I’m pumped to race him
Edited first post lol rematch GT63 with stage 2 F type ! He’ll lose! I’ll be posting Dragy times this week!
Nice! Did you do a before dyno? I’m kinda tempted to do a before dyno and an after one
What was the decibel reading on the Ftype R? You couldn't see because of that glare
They both recorded around 120
Do you know how the power is distributed in normal vs dynamic mode in an AWD R model? What % goes to the front vs. rear? I have a 2016 R and would love to know. :)
I’ve seen varied answers to that question. Usually 63% rear and 37% front. But I’ve also seen people says it’s 100% rear until it needs traction up front... so I’m not sure, I would guess 63/37
Skrrt Garage oh ok - thanks a lot. I have an oil change with the dealer soon - i’ll try to get some info from there as well while i’m there.
I have the jaguar f type r 14 and I like the sound more on the R its deeper and not that high pitched than the SVR.
They both sound pretty amazing! Love that v8
You mean the V8s? The first R model year was 2015. They had the V8s in MY2014-2015.
You can scare people off the pavements with it ;)
Interesting, I didn’t know that! Where did you come across that? Sometime I want to get a new exhaust but it already SO loud lol
Which one is supposed to be more expensive.. a type r or svr?
The SVR is more expensive, the blue one.
Although the new design is growing on me, I agree the headlights were a bit of mess up
I will absolutely go for the sound
100%
Great video, but for anyone who’s only here for the racing, it’s at 11:20
Thanks dude, great comparison between the two models, I'm a 2wd fan all the way! I live in South Africa, recently bought a V8s and looking forward to getting the VAP tune and pulley, very interested to hear your opinion on that once you've installed it.
Right on, I should have it installed within the next few weeks!
The phone mic cant read high enough.
Now we need ftype v8s (495hp) vs ftype r Both rear wheel drive to see the different
I like the sound of that!
Which exhaust would you say sounds deeper?
I think the R models are faster than the SVR models.I think if you only good at shifting gears yourself, that's the only true way to bring out the SVR power. If yall were both in Automatic and that SVR was getting beat like that...then idk lol i think the bad shifting made the SVR lose
Granny shifting, not double clutching like he should
what's done to your jaguar? and is it RWD or AWD?
My f type is stock, only upgrade is an aftermarket intake. The white car is RWD.
Wow, the way that SVR wing raises and extends backwards! I think the R is as close to the SVR on a drag as makes no difference.
That SVR will top out at 200mph!
The wing on the SVR looks dope! I agree too
@@skrrtgarage3922 LOL, I think here in England, "Looks Dope" has a different meaning, but I get your drift!
13:50 am I going crazy or did the svr spoiler move?
No your not svr also has an active wing but it’s definitely more discreet
Yeah its not just a fixed piece of plastic. If i recall correctly, it has a cleaning mode where you can roll it upwards too.
I kinda prefer the R look over the SVR
I like the R better. 🤷♂️. Cleaner looking.. especially in white. Nice car
That was awesome!! Thank you!
Thanks for the comment 👍🏼
How you make the supercharger wine?
What were the decibels i couldn't see it on your phone the sun was in the Way lol
I can’t remember, I think I said the number later in the video. Maybe 123?
My F type R 15 has the door logo blue from factory
Good to know!
Great stuff as usual
Thanks 🙏🏼
Could you put 305's on the 15 r?
Really good video - thoughtful commentary
I appreciate it homie, thank you. Ps did you catch the Jonny lieberman quote in there? Haha
SVR has a better exhaust sound for sure... both are sweet but SVR is better...
Why the R supercharger was stronger than the SVR??
I have an aftermarket intake
I believe the 15Rs will start to go up in value. That's why I'm holding onto mines.
I think it will too, in the long run for sure
The RWD is the only one to have 😎😎😎
Sure but most cars like this will not go up in value for another 15 years. It is not going to be anytime soon as one might think.
I think you mean the 15R’s will depreciate less. FTypes “going up” in value just won’t happen.
@@gunner5916 I think it will slightly increase a little. I think there are less than 800 15R coupes in the US. The 15r coupe are unique, and only for that 1 year they were made that way.
both are great. only those who do not have it criticize it. envy.
Niiiice!! I can't wait to upgrade my XE!
Right on! Thanks for the comment
Great video. I m starting to consider an F Type R. Seems like a very fun, engaging car. Interesting that the older model won but you explained why
So the SVR is drastically overpriced when compared to your car. The intake probably added 10-15 HP also which would make it faster.
A wing and some carbon fiber lips on all sides would make this look just as aggressive outside and it’s already faster
Yea man, it was pretty cool comparison. Thanks for the comment
Great video !! Again !
Thanks!
Great review. Thank you!
You've not posted in a long time. Hope you're ok
Great video and very interesting results, would love to see an 2017 AWD type R vs yours and an SVR - cos I have one ;-) Keep up the great work
I agree! That would be awesome
Hello did you install racechip to your car? because only racechip made for some some cars such as BMW ,jAGUAR f-TYPE ,I have SVR but I just planing to buy the racechip they say making 76HP but I don't know did you use or did you test it?
No I didn’t, both cars are stock here. I will be adding a velocity tune soon though!
@@skrrtgarage3922 sounds 👍 good I had jaguar ftype v8 S was brand new on 2014 ,i sold i bought 2017 corvette c7 grand sport after that 2018 camaro zl1 1le and now ftype SVR i love jaguar much fast than camaro and more fun
That’s awesome! Those are all great v8 cars!
Change the cam..its supercharged engine thats the best impact to power with chip...if u want fast go to a turbo charged car u want soul and sound supercharged
