I visited Pena Palace in October, 2008! It was not crowded and it was a wonderful experience. A Portugese friend and his family went with me by car from Lisbon. I mean that then problem now is the lack of awareness from administration which aims only the profits.
You are exactly right. We liked the idea of a timed ticket but when in there and saw how many were standing in line for our time, it was ridiculous. It’s too bad because the Palace is beautiful.
I was there this September & took the tour from lisbon conducted by Inside Lisbon tour. I had a wonderful experience. I love my experience in Pena Palace. I am going back to Sintra next year 2024.
Interesting I went in late November and had a completely different experience. Took the local train from Lisbon, jumped in a taxi, went through the gate, where there was some sort of transport to take you to the top (it was raining heavily). Yes I had to queue but not many people inside. Totally agree on the selfies and videos with flowing dresses.
That’s great to hear. Late November is probably the best time to visit. But we want to be in Portugal when we can still enjoy the beach being from Canada 😊 I think the real problem is that they should limit entries more. 400 every half hour is way too many.
@@ThePlanetD totally agree on the numbers that is ridiculous.
We took a Bolt for about €20 from Lisbon, the ride was quite amazing and dropped us at the gate where we bought only entrance ticket, there was then a bus that took us to walk the up to the entrance of the palace.
I understand you, people just want to take instagram pics so they can update their social media. Instead enjoying the view that the Palace offers
The people taking selfies are probably just as annoyed with your video. To each is own.
Yes the hypocrisy is too funny. And, one can argue video is even more irritating and intrusive. Some people snap selfies and move on. Speaking and filming video inside the palace rooms, and taking unsolicited shots of the public to demonstrate “wannabe influencers”? Talk about rich.
We usually get tickets for the inside, but then get out of line and enjoy the view from the exterior of the castle... we much prefer the Moorish castle. If you rent a car and drive up in the morning parking isn't usually a problem and is less expensive than the tuk tuk (assuming this is a day trip from Lisbon). We took friends a few days ago and parked around 930 and visited the Moorish castle and Pena Palace and made it into town at 1230 for lunch.
That is a great tip thanks! We did the initiation well in the morning and this in the afternoon. We nearly stepped out of line, but we wanted to get up to the balconies to see the views. It was better after the first half because everyone went outside for their fashion shoots 😂
One of the best experiences of my life. A trip that I will never forget and will never regret. I saw the beauty and the greatness Men were able to accomplish...And it truly got me thinking How did they manage to destroy all countries with this kind of Beauty Wealth and Power!!!
Qual é a diferença das selfies para alguém que anda de selfstick e telemóvel a filmar?
I went last February it was beautiful and also Sintra
Just back from a visit to Sintra and Pena Palace yesterday. Some tips: train from Lisbon €4.50 return. Exit station and turn right to board poblic bus costing €4.10 to reach Pena castle. Tuc tucs are a ripoff and still have to stay in traffic jam. When we arrived at the palace entrance paid €7.50 to visit the grounds and all around the palace exterior which was perfect. Queue for internal visit was crazy long. You dont mention that you can walk back down to Sintra through the beautiful wild grounds ...pathway down with some rocky terrain too, beautiful hike down to centre of town ....all at no cost !!! Trains run regularly between Lisbon and Sintra. Instagrammers AND you tubers everywhere 😂
Thank you for all the tips! Yes, I believe we did everything wrong when visiting Pena Palace. We will be going back to Portugal in March, maybe we'll do better next time.
It sounds like you didn't go inside Pena Palace right? I also heard for foggy days do Quinta da Regaleira instead of Pena Palace?
Can I see the exterior with the park ticket ?
@@SilenceNdSmile yes you can walk all around it with the park ticket and use the cafe there.
Hotel Concierge warned us, I wish we would have skipped it. We hiked from the town of Sintra up to Pena Palace because bolt (we didn't use uber in Portugal) is faster, but not here.Ended up missing our entrance time, went to the front desk and were told we would have to wait 2 hours for the next tour. We were here Oct 26, 2023 and the park is overbooking the tours. it's a joke. Heard lot of people complaining about being packed in like sardines. Visit Montserrat instead. We took the train from Lisbon and booked our entrance tickets online to avoid the tourist route, but ended up with tons of tourists anyhow.
❤❤👏👏❤❤
Thanks!
6:40 That was very rich 🤣
Very helpful video. Thanks!
Glad we could help. Cheers
She puts her video on you tube. Part of social media and complains that social media ruined the tour for her. She had to be filming and annoying others. What a hypocrite.
100%
Do they let tripods in? I guess if you take a long exposure shot, the people will eventually move and don’t show up in the picture
Pena palace is no way the same level as Neuschwanstein castle in Germany.
Pena palace looks nice in photos but I was not impressed when I went there. I was a bit disappointed. But just my opinion.
Best way to get there is by train from Rossio station. My suggestion is .. Buy the train and bus ride for Sintra good for 24H for unlimited ride while there. Cost €14.
Buses are easy to access and frequently accessible every 15 mins. Public buses are clean and comfy.
Just additional info, going up to the castle from the gate is another steep walk and a bit unsafe cause of the busses hauling people up to the castle. There are buses exclusively taking people to the top with a fee. Better ride that bus than walk.€3 per ride. This was my experience and just sharing.
We took lots of photos too BUT we read the history of the castle prior to our trip so we were informed about its history😀.
Visited Pena Castle on 4/5/24
Thanks for the tips!
During a holiday to Lisbon in early April 2017, on the recommendation of a Portuguese friend, we caught a train from Rossa Station to visit Sintra. On arrival, we wandered a short distance from the station and found a step-on step-off bus that offered a route to the Westernmost point of Europe at Cabo Roca, returning by Pena Palace. I cannot remember the cost, but it must have been reasonable enough not to stick in the memory.
At Pena, our bus stopped at the gate, we got off, passed through and got a small shuttle bus which took us up to the palace. We did not experience the horror of vast numbers of visitors like this couple did. There wasn’t a timed tour, no queues to enter or anything like what was shown in their video. We walked through the palace at our leisure and really enjoyed the experience. There were no glass screens protecting the furniture etc. We were probably the only people walking around the ramparts which enabled us to see all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. All in all, our visit was truly wonderful.
I have been thinking of going back to Pena once more, but on the evidence of this video it’s been deleted from my bucket list!
That sounds heavenly. I wish I visited Pena Palace a few years ago. That's the way things go though. When place become popular, people (like us) flock to see them. It will probably die down in a few years.
I totally agree with you regarding all those people taking selfies. They have no understanding of enjoying and learning the culture of the country they are visiting.
What a crab
If you are unorganized and annoyed by silly millennials do not blame beautiful Pena palace for it...
Pena palace stuffed with abominable figurines, go and see the Moorish castle instead.
What traffic is that ? Is it like LA ? 😳🙈🤣 Do you guys know about traffic? You sounds like complaining a lot . Oh boy .
Wow, what a Morna!
Tuk Tuk ripoff
It was. We wanted to take an Uber, but they kept cancelling and there were no cabs. So to make our entry time we had to take the Tuk Tuk.
