    Hi! Best video about Sintra day trip I have seen! I just have one question: so from tip 19 you said we don’t need to make the tour of the palace. So, this means we buy just the garden ticket?

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much. Here are the 2 links to purchase tickets and an explanation of each
      1) PARK & CASTLE AT PENA
      bilheteira.parquesdesintra.pt...
      2) PARK AND NATIONAL PALACE OF PENA ( This ticket includes the inside tour so you will need to schedule a date and time )
      bilheteira.parquesdesintra.pt...
      The first link allows you to tour the beautiful castle and grounds. The second link allows you to visit the castle and grounds as well as the rooms inside the castle ( The inside tour can have long lines and take up more of your time, but for some people it is worth it ).
      So if you just want to visit the castle and grounds, you would go with the first option.
      I hope this helps.

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and Thank you. I have never used Lockers or Storage in Sintra but here is some info I found and an article that might be helpful.
      • Sintra train station has lockers.
      • Tempo de Tradiçoes just outside of the train station provides luggage storage for ~€5 per day per bag. Look for the big rooster on the pavement outside the shop.

    Can I use the 24 hr viva card on the train to and from Sintra? And buses at Sintra? Best video of all, thanks!

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thanks for the question and support, It’s a little confusing... But I will try to give you a simple answer.
      Option A)
      Just use the 24hr "Viva Viagem” card for a RT ticket from Lisbon to Sintra for about €5.00. ( but NOT for the busses in Sintra) and when you get to Sintra pay for the bus separately (or get a tuktuk)
      So if you are going to use one "Viva Viagem" that will cover only the train, then you will pay on the 434 or 435 bus with a credit card or cash (sometimes the bus driver claims the credit card machine is not working and only will except cash). You can get an all day or pay per trip on the bus (which we did as we chose do walk most of the day)
      Option B)
      If you’re going to use the "Viva Viagem" for traveling around Lisbon as well as traveling to Sintra using the bus/train combo ticket (which can be purchased at any Lisbon urban train ticket office or ticket vending machine). I would get 2 separate VV cards per person, one just for the combo ticket and one to use around Lisbon (mark one card so you know which is which)
      One ticket per person €16.00. (For RT train and busses in Sintra ) Save your receipt until you get back to Lisbon, you'll need it!
      I hope this helps, Safe Travels!

    Great video. I noticed you didn't include the Lisboa card as an option for train transport. It supposed to give you discounts for Sintra attractions including the train ticket. Any thoughts?

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Melody, Thank you, great question. I looked into the Lisboa card (or Lisbon Card) and for traveling to Sintra, with our Itinerary the numbers didn’t work out. The Lisboa card is about €21.00 now (24hr card). So after our round-trip train from Lisbon to Sintra, ( I believe that none of the local buses in Sintra accept the Lisboa card ) and combined with only a 10-20% discount at the sites, it didn’t pay for us to use the Lisboa card for this trip. That is not to say that the Lisboa card isn’t useful for some itinerary’s in Lisbon. Basically you have to crunch the numbers and figure out how much money you will actually save and decide if it’s worth it for your travel plans.

    Fabulous tips! Thank you. You indicated you rode up one way up to Pena Castle and walked the rest of the way down, exploring all other sites by foot (since it's downhill from Pena Castle)?

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you!! Yes we took the 434 bus to Pena ( I believe the 3rd stop ) I would suggest going there first as it seems to draw the largest crowds. Afterwords we walked to Moorish Castle ( short walk maybe 10 min ) Then walked down the path back to town ( about 30 min ) then 10 min walk to Quinta Da Regaleira, if you don't have that much time or don't feel like walking you can take the 434 bus back to town and transfer to the 435 or even better a tuk tuk ( they are fairly inexpensive ). I hope I answered your question and Safe Travels!

    Invaluable video! Can you reach Chalet of Countess Edla or Sintra National Palace by bus? Would you recommend one over the other for a lover of interior design and architecture (for purely aesthetic reasons and photography; not historical reasons)? And what are low season months to visit? Thanks

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! You can really get some nice shots is both but the fact that The National Palace is about a 10min walk from the train station and you can take the 434/435 (Scotturb) buses which stops close by, costs about 11.05 € and has more rooms to photograph this might be the better option
      As far as the Chalet of Countess Edla it's quite a far walk from Pena, it's beautiful, historic but a little on the smaller side although less crowded than many other sites.

    Which ticket do you recommend to buy if I only want to visit Pena palace park in order to get external views of the palace as well as only the initiation well and the park and not keen to enter the Pena palace or Quinta Da Regalia?

      PARK & CASTLE AT PENA

    I’m going with my kids and my parents (65+ yes). I would venture taking the train and buses but maybe with them it would be better to go with a tour. What do you think and if a tour, do you have a recommendation. Thanks for the video. Great info

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Pedro, the train ride is not that bad, but the local buses might be difficult for seniors as there could be a lot of waiting and possibly standing on the bus if no seats are available ( the bus ride between sites isn’t too long but it’s the waiting and possible standing that might be an issue of comfort and time ). As long as the price is not an issue, a tour might be a great idea for you and your family as most of them pick you up and drop you off in Lisbon, plus some tours give discounts for groups as well as seniors and children. I don’t have any specific recommendations for tours but I usually do a search on Tripadvisor and read through the reviews. I hope this helps.

      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree a tuk-tuk is great option, you usually get a history lesson and some great stories. I have even stayed in contact with a few tuk-tuk drivers from a few different countries I have visited. Other options include a guided tour, bus, taxi and walking ( we really enjoyed the hike ). It all depends on your budget and the way you like to travel. Thank you for your comment, Sintra is truly a magical place. Safe Travels!

    Thoughts on the National Palace?

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว

      The National Palace in Sintra will be interesting to most.(But tastes and opinions vary). Many of the people I spoke with enjoyed it and a few said they could have skipped it. The authentic room designs, the incredible ceilings and intricate tile work make it worthwhile for many. Set aside 60-90 minutes for the.visit (costs 10 euros). I would tour Pena, Castelo dos Mouros and Quinta da Regaleira first and if you have time either visit The National Palace or the Park and Palace of Monserrate (The National Palace is closer to the city center so if time is a concern this might be a better option ).

    We have 4 people going to Sintra. Does it make sense for us to take Uber to get there instead of train?

    • @yourtravelmoves
      @yourtravelmoves  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The train would be about $5 round-trip, total about $20 for 4 people. With Uber the price will vary (depends on time, demand, weather…) about $23-35 each way (to town center not sites, to the sites will usually be more), so maybe $46-$70 round-trip. You will most likely be more comfortable and have more flexibility with the Uber, although the train isn't too bad at all. So I would say it basically comes down to your budget. (and remember you will also need to decide on and pay for transportation to the sites once you are in Sintra). Safe Travels!
