We were in Sintra last month. Very beautiful area but it's very hilly. My cardio was tested climbing up that hill to get to Quinta de Regaliera. We went there on a two week tour of Portugal and Spain.
What a lovely video! Thank you! I’ve been to Sintra twice and it’s truly magnificent, my favorite place in Portugal. I agree with all your suggestions and tips, especially if you’re only spending a day there.
Have an amazing time! It is beautiful there. The best advice is to get out early and then later in the day to the popular sites and then enjoy the cafes and shops at mid day.
We are planing a day trip to Sinatra on December 23 this year from lisbon, can we buy the ticket on the day or a day ahead of time or have to purchase in advance now ? Thank you
We were in Sintra in May 2023. I didn’t want to spend the time going into Pena Palace so I didn’t buy the timed ticket. But they wouldn’t let us even walk around the terraces. So we hardly got to see the palace at all. By biggest disappointment of the fabulous two weeks I spent in Portugal. I would recommend buying the tickets and if you don’t go inside you don’t have to. My second biggest disappointment was not spending more time at the Quinta de Reqaleira. If you can, visit the Palace of Monserrate It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Also, don’t trust Uber to get you up to Pena Palace. We had several say they were on the way, then just stop. We ended up taking a tuk tuk. Our driver was great. Have a great time - I would go back any day.
You walk around the ground, but you can’t get into the palace and there is a lot to see from within its walls, but you can see it from the grounds around it.
I would purchase as soon as you know the dates you will be visiting. Sintra is one of the top destinations in Portugal, so to get your desired time, book as early as possible.

So if you don't go to the timed palace can you just go around the castle walls or grounds? Or cafe? Without buying tickets? Thank you
You can walk around the beautiful gardens, but just don’t get very close to the palace.
Hi. In Pena palace can you just walk around the around the grounds or castle walls do you have to pay or get ticket?
You walk around the ground, but you can’t get into the palace and there is a lot to see from within its walls, but you can see it from the grounds around it.
Did I catch you correctly that you were charged 40 Euros for a tuktuk from the train station to Pena Palace?
that was what I thought too
Sintra is wonderful. We didn’t feel like messing with trains and buses, so we got an Uber in Lisbon for 18 euros. Easy as pie.
How far in advance do you recommend to buy tickets

Great tourist selfies! (Or is this meant to be a joke? Sintra for dummies...)
