Finally found the right video. All these mechanics just talk about all the possible problems but no solutions. Thanks for providing all these solutions for a underrated car
I just got my first VW and diesel ever. I’ve had it about 2 months with zero issues. It’s videos like these (simple and to the point) that give me hope. I am completely blown away by this car and I want to keep it for a very long time.
Bought my 2002 Jetta Tdi in 06 as my "forever car" ..T-boned in 2017 @149k. Cost of all maintenance over those 11 years averaged around $350 annually (95% dealer serviced). Great reliable car!
My Mk6 Jetta Sportwagen is getting a DPF/EGR delete to make it more reliable mainly because the DPF died AGAIN for the 2nd time in 70k miles. I got the car with 39k on the clock and I am now at 109k. The extended warranty is also crap because it was from when the car was first sold, not after the whole dieselgate event. Because of this, mine ended last year even though I got the car in 2019. I also had an extended warranty for the exhaust system and for some reason that ended 6 months before the dieselgate one.
Looking at one right now, just inquired about the timing belt as it's @110k miles. Plenty of faming communities where I live, they never complain about the diesel.
Headliner sag is because someone was smoking in the car and the chemicals in the smoke broke down the glue holding the liner up. This was really common in older cars that still came with ashtrays at a time when many people smoked.
I can’t for the life of me understand why VW even messed with the TDI software in the first place! Even now, after my TDI has been “fixed,” the gas mileage is still great! On average, I get around 36 to40mpg. If I drive on the highway, it’s even higher! I’m probably missing something, but I don’t understand why other companies don’t put more diesel engines in their cars.
I'm rewatching all of your videos lol. The golf I wanted to buy ended up selling to someone else. I've been utterly gutted lol A couple options in my area still but the one I wanted got away. Hopefully in two weeks I'll have one. 88k miles for $12k.
PowerService has been proven to do virtually nothing for lubrication. Buy premium diesel, which already has all the additives, and not futz with additives. 1-2% Biodiesel will be all you need to get lubricity into euro specs. Use Mobil1 ESP 0w-30 for oil if doing your own changes. VW switched to this a couple years as their VW branded oil. 5qt jug at Wallyworld is under $30.
Looking at a 2013 Jetta with 56k miles, is there anything I should look out for with a low mileage car? From what I understand, WV bought back thousands of em and updated them and resold em.
On a car that low or mileage, ensure it hasn't been sitting too long. It seems the cars that sat too long are more prone to bushings drying out and failing as well as brake calipers sticking. But if it was simply driven here and there, you're good to go.
When something pops up on this, or if I get a project 2.5l car, definitely! Fortunately for me and my girlfriend, it's a very reliable car. Unfortunately for my TH-cam content, there's not often something to replace to make a video on.
I seen a 2012 volks tdi golf, i want a car i can modify and use as a daily, ive had a car before but never driven manual. Would i have issues with the clutch system since I'll be learning manual in this car? I dont wanna worry about spending lots of money on a clutch or whatever i tear from learning. I knew a freind that had a honda and needed a new clutch on it because he was relatively new to manuals.
VW manuals are pretty bulletproof. I learned on an old school Passat, clutch still held great after I was done learning, through some very hard driving, and teaching others. They're very easy to learn on and built to take abuse as long as it isn't a bunch of launches and/or flooring it past 4th gear under 2k RPM.
To add onto that, I still wasn't proficient driving stick when I bought my TDI Golf and it has zero issues. And Honda transmissions aren't super strong so it makes sense someone could wear one out while learning.
@@eurodriven2507 Hey i appreciate the quick response, ive been looking everywhere for cars, and im considering this Volkswagen i see. Im very glad the golf can handle a new manual driver, again thank you for the info god bless
From what I've seen, MrTuning and Malone are the only real options. MrTuning can set readiness if you need that in your area. Malone has been tried and trusted for a long time. They both have a mutual respect for each other. As far as hardware goes, I couldn't tell you which kits are better than others or which ones should be avoided. The "MK6 TDI owners" and "VW TDI Owners" groups on Facebook have a lot of discussions on these topics.
oh, man. why delete egr? its highly integrated in new cars so deleting it can give you more problems with diesel motors. i thought its only popular in russia and near countries coz of low salaries, so ppl try to save on everything.
There's a lot of reasons for and against it, but I'd rather not open that can of worms in a comment thread. Researching on TDIclub will provide you with the reasons why.
I deleted it because it will eventually lead to soot buildup inside the intake manifold. It also caused my car to shudder when it started malfunctioning. I wish I had deleted it sooner.
@@awake780 well, ye. if car is malfuncioned then deleting it will help you with some problems for some time, but can produce other problems as well depending on car. i have 20 years old car with 240k milage and it works fine with egr enabled.
The "Jetta Sportwagon" is a Golf wagon, mine is a 2dr hatch though. Look at the front end of a Mk6 Jetta, than a Mk6 Golf, then a "Jetta" wagon, it's clearly a Golf front end and uses Golf parts throughout.
why does it feel like the mk7 tdi is like a false memory in peoples minds?? thats the car i have and there like virtually no videos on it whatsoever😭😭 95% of mk7 tdi videos are non american and to this day i have never seen another mk7 golf tdi that is the same package and color as mine (white SEL)
The Mk7 TDI was only around for one year in the US. They're a lot harder to find and especially a Golf hatchback instead of a wagon. They have their pros and cons.
Hi .. my TDI jetta sometimes have starting issue .. but starts well after a few hours of rest .. it just does that on short runs .. turns on fine after few tries .. its a button start
We just had this fixed. If the car sat for more than 2 days it would not want to start. Dealership found out It’s a failing aux fuel pump (diesels have 2 pumps, this one is in the engine bay not the tank) pretty straightforward fix

This video is 🔥. I’ve owned a few a tdis, all mkV variants, for about 14 years and this video covers every issue I’ve learned about in that time.

What did you get to replace it?

what kind of mpg do u get?
@ 43-50 mpg depending on ambient conditions. 50 or more when it’s warm out.

Can you do more videos on the MK5 2.5? Jetta/Golf/Rabbit

You still got those goal wheels from the 2011 golf? Let me know if they're for sale.
