Phil had a voice of an angel ,when first record bye bye love came out I was hooked ,in bands in the 60s and 70s I always did Phils harmonies .after they split up I was driving a lorry and heard AIR THAT I BREATHE by Phil and thought it was the EVS but it was just Phil before the HOLLIES had a hit with it .because it was never pushed on the radio ( a much better version in my mind ).the first record of BYE BYE LOVE that i had was on a 78 rpm

I have heard "Let It Be Me" many, many times since Don and Phil recorded it, but this rendition is a real heart-stopper! It is not the first time that tears have flowed while listening to Phil Everly sing, but this time was different. Love you, Phil and thanks for the wonderful memories!

I met Mr Everly once when I was a child. I was out hunting in the country near Paradise, Muhlenberg KY and he pulled up with a driver and asked me where they were and how far it was to the old town of Paradise. I knew who he was but I didn't understand the magnitude of what he was. I got home and told my family and they were in awe. LoL. He was very kind and friendly. It's not much but it's a good memory I have. I've since listened to everything he and his brother have done....and I'm blown away by the gifts they had.

@@backtoshallabal6662 I don't. I know that day they were out looking for a good location to hold a music festival.... Back then, they were putting on the Everly Brothers Festival in Central City KY, and it was kind of a big deal for the better part of a decade. They would come to sing and usually bring a couple of other artists to perform as well. I think were thinking of a building an amphitheater.....they never did.

A human singing voice can work across a wide range, bass, tenor, soprano, alto. As his lungs deteriorated Phil was not so able to push up to the higher tenor notes, so he gradually adjusted down. Likewise in the later stages, before they retired Don started singin up
But here Phil is with long term friends who know how to accompany him, and he still acknowledges the applause, gracious to the end

    • @jillmichel8226

    • @MusiciansHallofFameMuseum

Hi Will…. Waylon was not a Cricket. That was a completely different group playing with Buddy. J.I Allison and Joe B.Mauldin were the Crickets. When Buddy moved to N.Y they made an agreement that he would be Buddy Holly and they would be the Crickets. They hired Sonny Curtis who played with them and Buddy before they became the Crickets and played around without much success and decided to get back together with Buddy. Buddy had also told Waylon he wanted to get back with Joe B. and J.I and hire Waylon as a opening act. Before that happened the plane crashed. Best, Joe
