    Albert came to Indianapolis to do a guitar clinic at my friend's store. He drove into Indy thinking he'd find a hotel room, no problem, unaware that the weekend he came was the weekend of the Indy 500 motor race and the nearest hotel with a vacancy was in Chicago. He stayed at my friend's house for a couple days and that Saturday night they went to a local bar where a local country band was playing. My friend spoke to the band during a break and asked if his friend could sit in, "Well... can he play?" "Yeah, he's OK." Needless to say, minds were blown.

    I met Albert several times he signed my Ernie ball music man Albert Lee guitar, such a lovely guy. in his earlier days he could wipe the floor with any shredder on the planet. Albert always played clean not hiding behind distortion and played blisteringly fast melodic and clean. Something shredders fear.

    • @NoOne-kr4jc
      @NoOne-kr4jc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never really been into shredding or anything. What I have noticed is that riffs one can come up with having to do with a lot of notes is really wonderful. Its another dynamic in exploring the guitar. I feel the most powerful effects in music for myself have to do with simple chord changes and fewer notes, almost as if simplicity is the answer to creating something. I think Mr. Lee has a different style entirely and a different approach to music that maybe shredders wouldn't be used to. Its like a rhythm going against another rhythm where it doesn't quite fit, so I think this would make competitive musicians naturally uncomfortable. Some are talented enough to figure it out though. The most important thing to think about regardless is _music_.

    Somewhere out there in TH-cam land there is a video called "Born Fighter". It's all about Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds in the studio recording tracks for various solo and band (Rockpile) projects. Near the end of the film, Albert Lee comes in to the session to play on "Sweet Little Lisa" for Dave's album "Repeat When Necessary". Albert plays his solo and outro' on his Telecaster with the B-bender and they play the tape back. Dave Edmunds - no slouch on the six-string himself, is just floored by Albert's playing! Albert - ever the gentleman and modest to a fault, comes back into the lounge area with this kind of "Was that O.K.?" air about him, sits down and opens a beer. Albert Lee is phenomenal! I am pleased to say that I have been so fortunate to be in the same room as him quite a few times.
    Check Albert's performance of "Highwayman" on Anderton's Guitars (U.K.) YT channel. Just Albert singing and playing piano. Minted. Thank you Albert, and Norman for this video. All of you and yours stay safe and well.

    I met Albert a few months ago when he played at our small 200 seat theatre, where I volunteer doing FOH. He was very happy to sit in the bar afterwards, signing autographs and chatting. He signed on of the theatre’s posters for me. Lovely man.

    Albert Lee is a fantastic gentleman. I briefly met him when he was playing Clearwater Florida with The Everly Brothers. I walked up to him after the show and said hi I’m a huge fan of yours. I handed him a copy of the Heads Hands and Feet album featuring Country Boy. He was a bit surprised and politely autographed it and quipped that it may be more valuable now and smiled. He was just a really nice regular guy. I still have that album to this day.

    Wow, 25 years with the Everly’s/Everly. I didn’t know it was that long. Albert is one of my favourites too. I first heard the British band, Heads, Hands & Feet. I loved the album and assumed they were from the U.S.
    And then he did that stuff with Emmylou and all the Outlaw Country folks. I’ve got his first solo album kicking around somewhere. Can’t remember what it’s called but it showed me what an outstanding vocalist he was. There was at least one, really pretty ballad and he sang it with a ton of emotion. It’s funny how you see these old, white haired cats, strolling into a music store and you wonder, “who might this interesting looking character be?”

    • @markmiwurdz202
      @markmiwurdz202 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ZigZag Wanderer. The first Albert Lee solo album that I can remember was called "Hiding". Is this the record you have? All the tracks on the album are excellent. Maybe the ballad you recall is the Rodney Crowell song "On A Real Good Night"? Stay safe and well

    • @nomadman123
      @nomadman123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markmiwurdz202 - yes that’s the one. That song title doesn’t ring a bell but it could have been. I do recall the title song, “Hiding” as being another ballad-ish song. The more I think about it, Hiding may be the song I’m thinking of. I’m going to have to track down that album on one of my music sources. Thanks for tweaking my memory!

    • @markmiwurdz202
      @markmiwurdz202 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ZigZag Wanderer. Thanks for the reply. I think you are right. The title track "Hiding" is a great showcase for Albert's vocal ability. Plus you've may have noticed the harmony vocal on that track is Phil Everly. It's one of the few albums (on both vinyl and CD) I have that I play from start to finish. All the tracks are outstanding.
      If you can find it, check out Albert's interview at Anderton's Guitar channel on TH-cam. Right near the end of the interview (in a guitar shop/showroom!) Albert sings and plays on keyboards the Jimmy Webb song "Highwayman". A brilliant performance. Give it a look. Stay safe and well.

    Nice harmony on "All I Have to do is Dream", Albert and Norm! My wife and I were fortunate enough to see the Everly Brothers with Albert Lee in the 80s in Colorado at the state fair. I was also fortunate to own three Everly and J180 guitars in the days when I played a lot of acoustic gigs. Those and J200s are my favorite acoustic guitars! Thanks for this video!

      Exactly however in his earlier days he could wipe the floor with any shredder on the planet. Albert always played clean not hiding behind distortion and played blisteringly fast melodic and clean. Something shredders fear.
