    I have loved The Everly Bothers since I was a teenager in the 60’s. I finally got to meet them in 1988, and I had a long conversation with Phil at that time. He autographed one of my albums, asking “Where did you get this?” He seemed astounded when I told him I had been their fan since I was a young girl, and I had purchased the album with babysitting money.
    I always thought Let It Be Me would be a beautiful wedding song, as would Devoted to You.
    Thanks for this!

      I was confused by them calling it a sad song as well. I have known this song for a shorter time than you have as I am 33 years old but I have always interpreted it as the singer saying they are so happy with their love and so asking their lover to always choose them, no matter what please always let me be the one you choose to spend your life with. I never considered anyone would see it as sad. Maybe they think the singer's love is leaving sad so they are begging them to stay.

    The Best thing about the Songs from the 50's, 60's, 70's is that you could Understand the Words that was being Sung by the singer.! Unfortunately today you Cannot Understand what the Words are being Sung. Because some of today's Singers rely Heavily on the Sound and Not the Actual Words. Unless you Google the Lyrics. Then you don't have a Clue what today's Singers are Singing about.!

    "Chilowies" explanation coming up. I look hard for authentic, natural music, especially vocal harmony, from all over the world. That is how I ran across the Petersens. Your collaborations with them led me to you. I look forward to hearing more. But first, I took some time searching through many comments to see if anyone else made the points I want to make.
    The introduction had me wondering what about this makes you call it sad. Meanwhile, I vaguely enjoyed the performance. I was distracted by remembering the first time I discovered that some people can sing along with every word of a song on the radio without ever being aware of any part of the message in those words. I can get caught up in the musical details and miss the words of an unfamiliar song. But knowing the words before you begin... Other comments have mentioned a lack of sadness. I hear "You are the one for me. Please let me be the one for you." It is very vulnerable and would be sad if the answer is no. The song is a cliff hanger.
    After a second hearing, I enjoy many parts more completely: the instrumentation, the blending of your voices showing that you were listening to each other enough to be in sync, the slight changes of a note or two in the melody showing you made it your own interpretation, most of all what I said first--authenticity. You are not trying to be something you are not. You are most definitely not from rural Western Kentucky, which leads me to...
    "Tell me you'll love me only, and that *chilowies* let it be me." Translation from colloquial Western Kentucky, "...and that you'll always..." Yes, many of us neighbors of the Everlys still insert the "ch" between those two words without realizing we do it. Local accents are disappearing over time, though. THAT is sad to me.
    Their earlier hits were handed down to them, some written by their Dad, Ike. If Phil had sung this to Mom, she might not have turned him down for a date. Then she might not have met Dad, and where would I be? A big part of their appeal was that they shared their true selves. You copied that spirit very well. Please don't lose it.

    I love love songs, and good beer, too. And I love the elegant sound of a "Tele" . I think its secret is in the rounded shape of neck fretboard and in the thin tin can string bridge, instead the more recent "L" shaped thicker one. Although it is not properly a beauty, I believe it produces a tuning fork effect that contrasts with the absolutely solid and prismatic body and gives a unique sustain and reverb.
    Thank you.

      Someone also told it about Antonio Stradivari's violins. and look at what happened....Are you sure that the same pickups would sound exactly the same on a carbon fiber Parker fly or even on a folk guitar ? You moved my curiosity and now I have to check if someone did that comparison experiment, but before that, I have to check the origin of the funny sentence "cork sniffing superstitions": it's so hilarious.
      Anyway I think we could agree that Reina and Toni are so good at singing and playing.

      @@solino2002andrea We can agree on their talent for sure ! And yeah, there have been many experiments on "tone wood" in recent years, and while it does matter for acoustic instruments (including Stradivarius violins), its impact on tone for electric instruments is a lot smaller than pickups and strings.

    • @rogersmith5371
      @rogersmith5371 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think The Eagles might have done a version of this song with Timothy B Schmidt taking the vocal but you're right New Kid In Town does sound similar.

    • @JeffRebornNow
      @JeffRebornNow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rogersmith5371 It does sound a lot like New Kid In Town --- or, rather, New Kid in Town sounds like like Let It Be Me. The Everly Brothers predate the Eagles by a good 15 years. Also, Paul McCartney was a huge Everly Brothers fan. Drop the "Me" from the song's title and what do you have?

    • @rogersmith5371
      @rogersmith5371 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeffRebornNow Yes of course the Everly's came first well before The Eagles. I read somewhere once that the title of Let It Be came from an expression McCartney's mother used to use when there were family disagreements - she'd say "let it be" of course that may be folk lore since Paul's mother died when he was young (14 I think). Some think the reference to Mother Mary is Jesus's mother which is possible but Paul's mother's name was Mary so wh knows.

    • @JeffRebornNow
      @JeffRebornNow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rogersmith5371 No, it isn't folklore, Michael. Paul had a dream in which his mother appeared to him saying, "Let it be," and when he woke up the song came to him. But the song's title might also have been influenced by the EBs. A lot of our thoughts, particularly creative ones, have unconscious (or subliminal) influences.

    Yes , it's actually a really sad song.I've continuously listened to this Reina's version for many many days because I've really found someone very special and out of this world and in my mind I'm begging her that if she clings to someone, let it be me.Nature definitely doesn't want this to happen and I'm very heart broken and maybe I'll not find someone like her again.Therefore I keep listening to this song in the hope that someday she clings..but it doesn't seem near at all..
