    Regarding Scotty's take on lawyers, I'm about a year older than Scotty; I said, as a young man 45 years ago, that I felt then that lawywers should be prevented from ever running for political office at all three levels of government. My reasoning is this; politicians, at all levels, create the laws by which our society functions. Lawyers make their living by using and manipulating the word of these laws in myriad legal processes and procedures and ultimately in court. They actively train to argue black is white and blue is grey and orange is purple in their mock trials in their colleges. They learn how to lie, or at a minimum, twist the narrative, tweak the facts, and generally obfuscate the conversation to totally confuse their opponent in court. Otherwise, how can a high powered defense attorney; defending a client who admits to his attorney that he (the client) was angry and shot his neighbour dead after said neighbour ran over and killed the client's dog; defend this client in a court of law. Especially if there are 4 eye witnesses willing to testify to these facts in court, and security camera video of these events as well. Well, the defense lawyer has to twist and warp the narrative and obfuscate, obfuscate, obfuscate. In simple terms, the defense attorney will have to push right up to the edge of fabricating an outright lie right there in court. Of course there's other law, property, corporate, and so on which mostly involves process rather than court though tort and divorce laws can go either or both ways. So, it's obvious lawyers depend on laws to make their living as they use these laws, and often manipulate them, doing their daily work. The more complex and obtuse the legal code book, the greater need for, and dependency upon lawyers, by the rest of society as a whole. So the main job of politicians is to create laws and lawyers require rhese laws to earn their living, the more in quantity and complexity of laws created, the better it is for lawyers. Oddly enough, the opposite of this statement is true for society as a whole. So, what we have in our governments is mostly lawyers making laws for lawyers to profit from. Is this not a major conflict of interest, actually the largest single conflict of interest in our modern societies. I submit, lawyers should never be allowed to hold elected political office because of the inherent conflict of interest baked into our political system. A commonsense law to deal with the situation Scotty described would be a hard limit of a maximum of 10% of the final value of a class action settlement to be allowed for all legal fees and court costs. But, of course that's not the way the law is written. There is as much baked in, crooked and corrupt gamesmanship in our legal systems as there is in the various stock markets and the casinos of Vegas, Macao, and Monaco.

    Class action is actually worse than that. Often the customer only gets a Coupon! If the engine were blown from a faulty part or design the Lawyers get cash but the car owners get a coupon. They have to pay the people who (censored)-up $15,000 for the repair and the coupon reduces that $15,000 to $11,000.

    Nowadays you get a postcard from a law firm that tells you that you are a part of a lawsuit. You can opt out buy writing them a letter and mailing it to them stating that you want to opt out. If they win and you didn't opt out, they will sent to a check for $1.15 or something ridiculous like that. That has happened to me. One of the lawsuits was against Toyota. It would be nice if the lawyers had to get a signed letter stating that you *want* to be part of a lawsuit that will get you $1.15.

It's just more things that can break. Get a car with a real key, real parking brake, that you can easily work on yourself, in other words, the Mitsubishi Mirage base model. luv ya Scotty ... but you have to link 2 stories you talked about: (1) China subsidized the EV industry to the order of $250B+, I've read its actually much higher, and (2) complaining the US will put 100% tariff on Chinese EV's. The tariffs are because of those subsidies. Chinese EV companies are basically owned and controlled by the Chinese government, and were subsidized to build more EV's than China could consume. These subsidies allows the EV's to be made and sold cheaply, which directly breaks trade laws.

    Regarding electric vehicles, trucks, etc. they not only need the infrastructure of charging locations to support them but the time to charge a battery is currently an insane wait period when compared to a gas pump. Most gas/diesel vehicles can enter, fill up and leave a fuel station in 5 to 10 minutes. Todays EV's require 45 minutes or so to get an 80% charge not to mention, the cost of the electricity at these charge stations is NOT competitive, its expensive to use them.

    • @ChitFromChinola
      @ChitFromChinola หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tired worn-out narratives. Everyone has electricity, so infrastructure is no problem. Charging takes 5 seconds - i plug in the charger in my garage and I walk in the house.

    • @Garth2011
      @Garth2011 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChitFromChinola You are sadly informed and only thinking about your needs. If you have a very dull regimental life...maybe so.

    • @ChitFromChinola
      @ChitFromChinola หลายเดือนก่อน

      More tired, worn-out narratives. I’ve had an electric car for four years. Our driving vacations have all gone smoothly. Chargers all worked, and the 20-minute charge times were nice breaks for the family. I’ve never been robbed, nor even felt like that was a possibility - all the chargers were in nice places. Better yet, I didn’t have to listen to my family complain about the dirty gas station bathrooms. When you go electric, your life gets better.

    • @Garth2011
      @Garth2011 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChitFromChinola Sweet, worn out narratives also apply to the end results of electric vehicles when it comes to CO2 or emissions. Electricity is generated by natural gas, coal, solar, wind etc. but most of it is generated by natural gas. This means any pollution that isn't coming from a vehicle tailpipe is going up the exhaust stack of a natural gas turbine generator. Especially at night. Many fail to see any environmental gains.

Take Japanese zoning law: unlike American zoning law, there are only 12 different zones with easy-to-understand rules, and you can build whatever you want on your property as long as you check all the boxes in those rules. No community hearings, no haggling with NIMBYs, no nothing. As a result, a lot of zoning lawyers that exist in America don't exist in Japan because no one needs them there.
    Toyotas and Hondas aren't the only good thing Japan does, and I think America would do to copy some things Japan does.
