Whenever people talk about Modric, Xavi and Iniesta are often heard right away..They were great together and boss the midfield..but they needed each other to get where they were unlike Modric

Luka is just different. There is no other midfield player as complete in the history of football.
He's not an attacking mid but can create or score if needed.
He's not a DMC but he can track back, mark and take the ball away if needed.
He's not a regista but he can send pinpoint passes if needed and ALWAYS sends the ball forward.
He's not a Box to Box but can run the entire field in the 95th at 36 years old if needed.
Zidane, Iniesta, Xavi and Pirlo are better than he is at their specialty but Luka can do it all at a close enough level and run the tempo of a game better than any of them.
He's just special.

I have never seen such a complete midfielder ever. Great in defense, great in scoring, great in assist, great pace and workrate, great dribbling, great everything. Who was like that ever? I mean Xavi and Iniesta were good, but not good in defense, not great pace and physiques but they worked well in that setup. Modric is just different, watching him is like watching a beautiful ballet

Look, I'm a Croat myself, but sometimes it's hard to give someone the title of THE BEST EVER in his position. Why? If you look the history in only last 50 years they would have been at least 30-40 big names central middle fields who all gave their own things to the game. There are so many flavours of the CM position players that its hard to even compare.

Denmark - Croatia 0:1 , 10 June 2022. First half total domination of excellent Danish team . Second half a little troll ( as Danish media called him after game but not with bad intent ) named Luka Modric ( only 36 years old) came in and the game completely changed. No answers from Danish side for little troll magic. Watch the game it if you can to see why is Modric definetely in top 10 in history. Just wish that he played with Iniesta and Xavi because I believe that opposition team would not know what a possession of a ball is.

No hate to any great midfielder,but he is the most complete midfielder ever to play football.He can be a playmaker,can make great short passes in tight spaces,can make great long passes, dribbling,ball control,track back,defend,attack,score long range goals has unending stamina,almost won every individual and team trophy except the European golden boot(almost impossible to win it as a midfielder) and World cup(almost won it). Imo modric is the most complete central midfielder in history because zidane,xavi,iniesta were never a threat at defence against their opponents they were moreover ball carrying and play making CMs. And in case of Zidane he was an attacking midfielder so there is no comparison with him. @@okocha7914 I'm sorry but that's bogus. Xavi wouldn't be as effective if not in a tiki taka system. He also lacks pace, and physicality, and isn't a good defender. Also remember that he had Messi, Iniesta, and Busquets near him. Not denying that Real Madrid didn't have a stellar setup either, but Iniesta is considered one of the all-time greats. Busquets, by many, is considered one of the best DM's and Messi... well he's considered to be the G.O.A.T. Having this caliber around you hides your deficiencies and will naturally make you look better. He is still one of the all-time greats, but Luka literally does not have a weakness. He is a playmaker, can defend, has excellent passing skills, both long and short range, can make dangerous dribbles, is one of the most press resistant players of all time, and has a tremendous work rate. In addition to all of this, his longevity should not be overlooked. For taking such physical abuse over the years, he has held up and played at a world class level all these years. He is most definitely on Xavi's level. I think you should be asking the question if Xavi is on Modric's level because he has most definitely earned that.

Iniesta: winning goal in the final, created the winning goals in the round of 16 and quarterfinals matches. Won them the game in the group stage with a goal vs Chile. Modric: scored in the Argentina game and scored a penalty in another group stage game and had a corner kick assist in the quarter finals. And missed a penalty in that game and could’ve won it before it went to penalties. Besides that mandzukic, rebic, perisic, kramaric, rakitic scored and assisted all the goals so how the heck are u gonna say he brought them there by himself?

People don't understand that Xavi and Iniesta will never have that charm and creativity of Luka Modric, just as reading the game and defending capabilities. They were good, because the moment they won everything with Barca and Spain, but not even close individually to Luka. They were good technicians and they are legendary duo but only in the shape of tiki taka and Guardiola's football agenda. I would rather watch Lampard and Gerard, they had more character no matter on trophies.
Well, let's just put it this way. Iniesta is just a year older and he's been playing in Japan for the last 5 seasons. A league that is quality wise similar to some European third divisions. I'm not denying his greatness but there's levels to this, and longevity is extremely important when it comes to these discussions.
