He deserved that Ballon d'or, whether Cumulative or because of WC Tournament and Champions League
They way he has transitioned from an attacking mid to a deep lying playmaker so seamlessly is most impressive for me
A few months ago, people were saying he didn't deserve the 2018 Ballon d'Or and De Bruyne is better than peak Modric. Now he destroys your neighbours and people act like 35 yr old Modric even comes close to what he was doing between 2014-2018. That's what happens when people don't watch players but still have opinions on them.

There's actually people out there who think a 4 time CL winner, and Balondor winner, is not as good as Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard. This guy has dragged a unfancied team to a world cup final, those 3 couldn't guide a world class xi to a semi. Honestly, over the last 7 years he has had more big game performances than those 3 combined. I'm a United fan btw, but Scholes didn't Dominate big games and international tournaments like Modric.

lets be honest. if modric was english his statue would already be standing on trafalgar square, queen would already give him a knighthood. modric is zidane, iniesta, cruyff level of player, he is up there with greatest midfielders of all time. Those 3 guys are legends, great players but not all time top level. Modric is not only great player, he is a team changer, every team he played in is totally different with/without him. Its not accident all top managers wanted him (mourinho, ancelotti, ferguson..). Before modric ronaldo couldnt win CL with Real, when Modric was injured Ancelotti won nothing with Real, when he got back they won La Decima

@@lawmaker22 Real and Modrić won decima year before when he got injured. It was 2014. In 2015 Modrić suffered injury and they couldn't defend it. That year Ancelotti was fired.

Croatia is independent 4mil people country for only 30 years, in those 30 years they qualified on 11 out of 13 world cups and euros, and won 2 wc medals, plus having a ballon d or player in messi cristiano era. there is no nation with such a success, its impressive. remember, only 13 out of 200 fifa countrys played wc final. He had to get it. The World Cup plays a big part in the Ballon d'Or rankings. Ronaldo was gonna get it but when Portugal went out in the 1st round and Modric, who'd been outstanding as Madrid's number 10 for yrs, dragged Croatia to their 1st final, he was definitely the winner. He came 5th in the Ballon d'Or the season before and destroyed Juve in the CL final. People just didn't pay attention cos of Ronaldo.

He's a legend of course and was our best player but to say he carried the other dozen WORLD CLASS players in that squad on his shoulders is nonsense. Many of those players carried him. Hence why he hasn't even been to a CL semi since he left. Benzema sacrificed himself so much, Ramos was a leader and won finals for us, Bale showed up in big moments, Modric-Kroos were the only partnership on Earth to challenge Xavi-Iniesta, Marcelo was amazing, Di Maria is still proving himself, Casillas was the best keeper on Earth, Casemiro is the best CDM on Earth besides Kanté... Ronaldo was the defining factor but to say he carried our incredible squad on his shoulders is totally wrong.
