One of the greatest midfielders of all time. Can attack, defend, carry the ball, dribble, amazing short pass and long pass, great leader, and was the key man taking Croatia to a World Cup final and a 3rd place finish.

@madtitan_bringerofgenocide to be fair modric is one of the greatest midfielders ever even for us who watched in early 2000s.
He's been the engine in 5 champions league runs. Took Tottenham to champions league when they used to not do that (alongside Gareth bale on his prime) and also led Croatia to THREE top 3 finishes in the world cup.
In terms of what I was able to watch I can only say pirlo Zidane and xavi are ahead of modric. But if you actually look at their on field contribution, not their skill only modric has inmense skill insane positioning and on top of that he can recover the ball and make amazing passes. Even at this age just look at the way real Madrid scored in anfield couple weeks ago.
Pirlo was special in terms of passing range and free kicks. Xavi was an overall more accurate passer and through balls was insane. Zidane is more of a CAM not a pure CM but he could play everywhere. As good as Zidane was, and pirlo, and xavi they all left Europe or retired by age 35.
Modric was arguably the best player in Madrid and Croatia at age 37

He was good and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes but have you seen him throughout the seasons? He was average in some games and world class in others. He was nowhere near consistent as Luka is and controlled the games as Luka does.
PS: I love Zidane but Luka does it for me
I've been blessed to see so many talented footballers in my lifetime, some truly great midfielders, and Modric deserves to be mentioned with the greats in his position. What a legend.
What a guy, technically the best midfielder of this generation. He could do it all. I thought he was going to put Benzema or Casemiro in.. he did give them a mention though. Great that he spoke so highly of Bale, a superstar at his peak.
Xavi and Iniesta were better than him but he's up there without doubt.

One of the best midfielders of all time. He has it all. Great technique, vision, tactically great in defense. He always knows what to do with the ball even when the opposite team is pressing high.
If you love football, and have seen him play, you have to choose him in your ideal team.
All that respect in the interview but just a few days ago Rio disrespected Modric by saying he robbed Ronaldo of the Ballon d'Or in 2018. What a snake.

The way Ronaldinho was respected at the Bernabeu by Madrid fans, Modric imo would be that player for Barca fans. You can't hate this guy loool. Excluding his club success(let's be honest Real Madrid with or without Modric is one of the biggest clubs ever), what he did for his national team two world cups in a row is a testament to the kind of leader he is. Tho he didn't win those tournaments, he paved the way for countries with less storied football legacies like Croatia and Morocco to challenge the hegemony of historically bigger teams like France, Argentina, Brazil, etc. He is THE guy that broke Messi and CR7s chokehold on the Balon D'or. Nothing but respect.

He really started everything from scratch. He had to fight from the start. He is still at top. won wc bronze medal, ucl. His longevity is insane, considering he is a midfielder, the position which requires most agility and demanding. It's all thanks to his crazy work ethics, determination and resilience.

@@PP-uk7of saw him live training. he and gvardiol were the only ones with private coaches and extremely long warm ups with bands, while others already started training . they were both also the last to leave trainning. for me one of the best, if not the best midfielders. his outside of the foot shot is definetely one of the most magical in football history

Modric, benzene, rakatic, bale ramos, cr7. We've been blessed. When these types of players hang the boots, the Zlatans, Messis..football will be left with a huge hole. I don't see the same hunger or talent these days spread. Mbappe, maybe Bellingham, Valverde potentially. Relatively speaking it's not the same.
