Casemiro has really improved his on the ball skills. He's more calm on the ball, his passing is really getting better, and he handles the ball more composely. Also, he's one of the players that really makes life difficult for messi

KCM really is an all time trio. Honestly if I were to build a team, they would be the ones I will base my midfield line up skills on. One of the reasons why RM is unbeatable in all UCL finals game, is because these 3 are very moldable and adaptable to any form of tactics you give them. Beat an enemy by possession? Done vs Juve, beat an enemy through counter attack? Done vs Liverpool, beat an enemy by direct and fusion football? Done vs atletico, beat an enemy by absorbing and just soaking attacks and then attack them when they are no longer on guard and are tired? Done vs atletico again and man city. These 3 are simply amazing on how much adaptable they are and aren't limited to doing only one trick against differing teams on their whole careers. Simply amazing

Liverpool literally played it to Madrid's hand. Klopp literally lacks plan B against top opposition when it comes to winning matches against them.

Good breakdown. Casemiro is a baby face enforcer and the most underrated midfielder in Europe. His defensive skills enabled both Marcelo & Carvajal to push the ball, at will, up the flanks. While not as good on the ball as Modric & Kroos, his overall skill level is high. Hala Madrid, Los Reyes de Europa !!!
Defensively he’s amazing, which is why it allowed the fullbacks to go up because casemiro a positioning is so unmatched he’s gonna be there if they counter attack. And if they do he’s either gonna knock the ball off a slide, tackle you, or he’s gonna tackle you hard into a foul but you’re not getting passed him. That’s what makes him so special he’s everywhere defensively, and he knows how not to get a red
Many people underate modric, but in MY opinion I think he is the best midfield in the world right now. He has so many key aspects in the game. He has dribble he has passing he’s a playmaker etc. Overall people all over the world REALLY need to give Modric more credit.

And the other part is they are compared to Xavi, Inestia and Busquets at international level. Not only KCM are from different countries, different Academic and even bought from different leagues and still they had born to be together bond. It's a fact that KCM is the most versatile, competitive, consistent and complete in terms of every aspects for a midfield trio.

There’s one aspect of modric not highlighted very well. Obv this is a holistic analysis& not an individual deep-dive.
I think its cuz this video leans more on the most recent seasons-thats perfectly fine!
But modric was like a second Casemiro in la decima & 3peat era, he would basically cover ground and track runners much like him. He was an absolute workhorse and defended like a beast. On top of all the technical qualities mentioned. Most Complete mid ever.
Work rate is insane. Even today at this age just respect.
People often compare them to Barca's Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets and argue which is better. Both trios are iconic but they play so differently. KCM's main task over the years was quick transition since fast counter attacking football is what Madrid do. Barca did more tiki taka which means that their trio had more possession and their attacks took more passes and often required Xavi and Iniesta be higher up the pitch than Kroos and Modric. I remember during World Cup 2010 or so Spain sometimes would play Iniesta and David Silva (who are usually seen as Modric type of player) instead of forwards even tho they had Torres and Villa. Doesn't happen with Madrid's trio except for the last El Clasico (0:4 Barca win) where Modric and Kroos played very high so the midfield was really disjointed which ruined Madrid's game.

Really appreciate this analysis but I feel like it would’ve been better to just focus on how they played in the 3peat cause this latest season was so different as they are so much older. Their game has adapted significantly although the underlying player profile hasn’t changed much. Specifically the patterns of play and how Casemiros possession deficiencies are overcome changed

The comparison between those 3 and (Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets) is solid in terms of how many games and trophies won. But that's about it; the Barca system benefited from having Messi massively. And if you say Madrid said it benefited from Ronaldo, I agree too. But the difference is Madrid's trio longevity & how they've adapted better to change. In fact, I believe that trio is probably the best trio of all time. Because not only they're lethal offensively, but all 3 can defend, unlike the Barca side. Honestly, we might NEVER see a trio in their prime as good as those 3 from Madrid. Including national teams.

a bit of unpopular opinion, this season they werent as great as people make them, during ucl campain real were almost always losing with them on the pitch and almost all of the comebacks were made when camavinga came on and valverde moved to the mid with rodrygo upfront, they started all of the matches yes but werent the main reason real won the ucl........................This may be a shit opinion due to my lack of football knowldedge but this is what i noticed from all of ucl matches

Madrid fan here: you have a pt, whilst modric maintained his level somewhat, kroos couldnt keep up with the athleticism of the opponents at a UCL level, casemiro was careless on the ball on countless occasions even in laliga, ancelloti had to bring on the legs of valverde and camavinga to free up modric (run against psg to set up 2nd goal, assist to rodrygo against chelsea).
Note: Kroos wasnt out of form, he was angry when subbed against city 2nd leg mumbling, "why me, I played well" in spanish. It was purely tactical as ancelloti had to bring on someone who could drive the ball against citys constant press

Everyone would downplay this trio by Iniesta Busquet and Xavi. But the main thing is.. Modric Casemiro kross never break down even when the pressure is out of the roof. But not in the case of Barca Midfield trio.
Barca has possession. Madrid trio had mental strength and can cope with any attacking football and absorb all the pressure building by an opposition team.
This trio is unreal in every aspect except that they aren't the possession type player like Barca trio.

Probably the only midfield pairing to match up to Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets from Barcelona. Casemiro is the most important piece of the puzzle for Madrid to allow Kroos and Modric to play their game. Let's not forget Kroos and Modric were good #10s but since Zidane took over the first time they were converted to excellent central midfielders and with Casemiro doing the dirty work at the back those three played a key role for Madrid to win 3 straight Champions League titles and 5 in 8 years, a Copa Del Rey and 3 La Liga titles in that same time period.

he doesn't have much of that. All his teams used completely different tactics. He keeps changing tactics depending on the players he has and the teams that he is facing
I think the Midfield trio is good. Each player has a specific role and they keep to it. It's not dogmatic like the Barca trio. (Dogma isn't a bad thing)
But the players in Barca's trio could take up similar roles easily because there's a system. So it's natural that similar players must complement that system.
The madrid midfield determines the system (more like schema instead of system) based on the strengths, weaknesses and very importantly, current form. Making it subject to change.
Often times when one of the trio was lacking a certain quality over a period of time, they had to bring in other players to contribute to that missing feature.
Isco came in for carries behind the lines.
Valverde came in when they lack carries, & volume in coverage (ie legs), esp as Modric got older.
Asensio came in for his ingenuity.
If you were an average player in the Madrid setup, it'd show. But Barca's midfield were so similar they made everyone that played with them shine like a million stars.
Its why I'd still pick the Barca midfield (with emphasis on the system) over Madrid's.
