I’ve been a Madrid fan for about 20yrs now and have seen great midfielders play for the club but honestly none can be compared to Modric. Ancelotti missed out on the Spanish title and getting a treble in his first season when he lost Modric to injury. Dude is world class

Guti was a great playmaker but most coaches preferred him coming in as a sub cos he didn’t have a complete midfielders work rate.

I am a Chelsea fan and if I had to choose a player from that list, Modric will be my first choice. He's the most perfect midfielder I've ever seen, there's no flaw in his game. Even at 36, he never ceases to amaze me. He's surely the greatest of all time for me.

Beat me to it. That's what edges him out on the others. He can do the dirty work when needed so the midfield will still have balance.
I watch Modric's matches these days, and I am just amazed by his ability to think so quick and never lose the ball. Man's just phenomenal, I have barely seen him lose the ball, not to mention his unbelievable recovery rate even at this age !!!

He only had Modric for let's say approx 1 and a half season compared to Seedorf and other players! Modric' absence from the team due to injuries prevented Carlo from taking Madrid to consecutive finals. No Modric, no UCL success.
They were playing best football that ive seen in madrid with 4 in midfield kroos- modric-isco-james and in attack benzema ronaldo and when modric got injured with national team it all fell apart.

Zidane could play right in the centre of midfield and had done so on many occasions. Zidane was that good he could play anywhere on the pitch. Pirlo on the other hand was not able to play anywhere.
Pirlo was a fantastic player but not at the level of Zidane, Maradona, Pele, Beckenbauer or Cruijff.
I could imagine any of the above players anywhere in the attacking set up and still being the best on the pitch but I could not imagine that with Pirlo.

Yes Xavi is great, Iniesta is also great and so are many others, but this guy led R. Madrid to 4 consecutive UCL alongside CR7, he took Croatia to WC finals, at 36 one of the key players. His only negative trait is that he comes from small nation. If he was English, French, German it would be totally different story. Yes xavi iniesta won wc and euro league, but the players they had around them in the time is totally different. Cheers to the class
Not four consecutive UCLs but yes Modric is amazing and probably best midfielder of all time. The longevity is astonishing as well, he was already great at Spurs and still going strong at 36 years old

Also not to discredit Owen, but he won the ballon d'or over the likes of Raul, Thierry Henry, Bergkamp, Kluivert, even Puskas never got a Ballon d'Or in that way. Does that mean, according to your logic, all those players are automatically worse than him?
Modric is amazing but that doesn't make him as good as Xavi and Iniesta. He can be an all time great and still not be the greatest of all time. There's very few players in the modern game ahead of him - Xavi, Iniesta, Zidane, Platini and Matthaus are the only ones that stand out to me. After that Modric has as good a claim as any.
