    Yesterday did it including chain conversion. The race went in but got it done, had to loosen the nut on the main shaft on the tranny side an tap it a little to get the tool behind the race. Got rid of the race, replaced with the ball bearing in the inner primary. Was not that complicated as first thought. Well explained as usual, great video!

    Very good but it looks like the pinion gear wasn't lined up into the coupling properly. It was meshing with the ring gear. I do think its worthwhile to put a little ultrablack on the inside primary case bolt holes and some on the threads of the lowest primary case bolt..

    • @DeathProofProductions
      @DeathProofProductions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It was lined up but I did go back on the footage and look and your right it's hard to tell but it's on the inside of the ring gear. We're learning about the different camera angles and how they can effect what people see. Harley after a few years quit using the ultrablack, now his had it but I chose not to bring it up because if someone had it on there they would know and go ahead and use it, but if from the factory they didn't have it then they prolly don't need it I kinda wanted to leave it to them.

I have installed by the book and the mainshaft is really hard to turn , any ideas as to my problem . Is there such a thing as shims you can install under the transmission or is that a bad idea . Most of the other after market primaries are junk . Any help or advice you can give will surely be appreciated . Thank you .

    I appreciate this video. It helped with my recent (and first) primary job on an '06 Deluxe. I do have a couple of questions though. Could using an impact driver on the compensator nut potentially cause the crankshaft to scissor due to the severe jolting? How do you know everything is torqued to specs if you use an impact driver to tighten the bolts?

    • @DeathProofProductions
      @DeathProofProductions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's really tension from being tight and the red loctite that keeps it on, all the tech's I worked with at the dealership did it that way. Never seen one come loose in 24 years doing it like that, As for shucking the flywheel's it's not near enough force to do that due to the tight interference fit of the crankpin. From my experience it mostly happens from lugging the motor or racing it with stock flywheel's. But there is nothing wrong with torqueing it down either. Tech's just have to figure effective but faster ways to do things since we get paid book time.

  • @SaddleTrampTV
    @SaddleTrampTV ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there no torque spec for the nut of the belt pulley? I know this is apples and oranges; but if I don't torque my sprocket nut to spec on my shovel it'll leak transmission fluid.

    • @DeathProofProductions
      @DeathProofProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just tighten it down good with the 262 red loctite and line up the lock plate. When they went to using the quad seal between the spacer and gear it really improved the seal. What year is your bike.

    Harley seals don't last long. The primary cover front large o-ring leaked on my bike with only about 18,000 miles.
    When I remove the cover I found that the shifter seal was leaking also. This is just one reason I'd never buy another Harley , there are many more reasons.

    Never use impacts on tight screws or bolts your asking for trouble.

      On air impacts from years ago I would agree fully. Now days electric ones have variable speed triggers that let you can control the speed. Let's you use them as electric ratchets then torque when you hit bottom with a torque wrench . 30 years as a factory certified Harley mechanic made me fall in love with these when they cam out.

    Don’t ever use impact tools on primary’s

      Me and the techs I worked with at Bumpus Harley Davidson in Memphis always did it like that, never once had a comeback because of it. Been a factory certified Harley mechanic for close to thirty years and I have never had a issue with impacting off bolts. What's your reasoning for not using them.
