My childhood was good because of ABBA!! What a band!! You need to hear their Chiquitita & Money, Money, Money...and their whole catalogue!! None of their songs disappoint!!
This was ABBA's only # 1 hit in the U.S. according to Billboards Hot 100. World wide ABBA had 21 # 1 hits. Fun fact, when Bjorn, the guy playing the guitar, first wrote the lyrics to this song, he wrote that age of the dancing queen as 15. When his wife Agneta, the blond lady singing, saw it she told him that 15 was to young and he should change the age of the dancing queen to 17, which he did. Agnetha was an accomplished songwriter herself with a self penned song that went to # 1 in her native Sweden.

@@martyslazenger935 Yeah. I like ABBA but let's not get carried away. There were a ton of rock bands in the 70's who were far superior in musicianship, songwriting, and performing. ABBA was a fun pop/disco group and when I worked as a Wedding DJ, I loved their music, because it got people onto the dance floor. But it wasn't exactly very deep.
@@martyslazenger935 They sold more records in the 70s world wide than anyone. They are third all time following the Beatles and Elvis, for total albums sold. They may have passed them by now, with the stage play Mamma Mia, and the movie of the same. They're still popular, even though they only lasted until the early 1980s.
@@Lewis9709 Honestly check out their 8 albums. The music does get very deep - both lyrically and how it was developed instrumentally/musically. First two albums are fun, but not the masterpieces their latter albums ended up being. There's that and there's also the situation where they somehow managed to produce 50 odd great songs (and 22 number 1 hits) with most of the rest being good. No poor ones. Secondly check out "Does your mother know" leading onto "Hole in your soul" live at wembley for a taste of how good they could perform live. Or "So long" from their earlier years. It was hard for them to perform live without a load of back up singers and doubling up on instruments however because they did do so much work in the studio perfecting their sound and layering vocals, melodies and harmonies.
My favorite part of this song is the very beginning - piano....and it takes off. When I play it in the car, I hit the back button a few times before continuing....lol.
I was 4 yrs old when this song came out. The women and girls I knew all loved it. I was just thinking, the little girls dancing in front of ABBA in this video are now in their late 50's and early 60's. Where'd the years go?
ABBA's name derives from the first initial of each band member Agnetha , Benny , Bjorn & Anni-Frid . The band is made up of 2 married couples Bjorn & Agnetha and Benny & Anni-Frid . Abba had 19 top 10 hits in the UK of which 9 of them went to no.1 . In the US they had 14 top 40 hits . One of my favs is " Does your mother know ? " .
This was written for their Swedish Queen who loved to go dancing and she was only 17.actually if you can find it you will.enjoy seeing ABBAin their traditional gownsvsing this in front of their Queen.lovebboth of you.Shawn your wife is gorgeous 🥰
You are so right Mel , “That song would bring the dead alive!’” This song was number one worldwide back then , all over the radio , and in the discos. When the guys , Bjorn and Bennie, presented the ladies in the group, Agnetha and Frida with the song , they all knew they had a massive hit on their hands, and it was and then some! I love your reaction to it!
They speak and sing in their native language and French also. AND Frieda came from Germany as her father was with Adolph's boys, so she probably knows german too.
Not long after the first time ABBA performed this song in 1976 there was a royal wedding here in Sweden. The night before that wedding they performed it in a concert for the King and his soon to be Queen. I watched it on live TV back then.
This magnificent song, in my opinion, is one of the top 100 songs of all time. The thing is, this group, like the Beatles before them, evolved so listening to them in chronological order is an education. I freaking love them. Great reaction. Your love of good music is exceptional.
Abba, maybe the best ever at making surefire pop hits. I am still amazed that this Scandinavian group wrote such catchy songs in a language different from their own.

It's an acronym for their first names, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny & Anni-frid. They were two married couples (Agnetha & Bjorn and Benny & Anni-frid) from Sweden who won an international European singing contest and went on to HUGE careers in the 70s and early 80s. They spoke no English at the beginning of their careers, performing English songs phonetically, but all four learned English within a year or two. Both couples ended up divorcing by the early 80s, but they continued to work as a quartet for a while, often writing songs that included what they were going thru in their personal lives in the lyrics. Finally, they broke up when Benny & Bjorn (who wrote most of the songs) left to begin a very successful career writing movie scores and stage musicals together. Anni-frid (who mostly went by her nickname Frida) later ended up marrying a prince and became royalty!

ABBA is so huge in the music industry that one of the greatest metal rock bands of all time, Metallica, paid tribute to them by covering this song in Metallica's concert in Stockholm, Sweden, ABBA's home country.
I was a teenager during the 70's/80's. This was filmed in 1976. It was a wonderful time to be young. People were happier, relationships were closer, life was more care free, and the music was incredible. Attending concerts was a huge thing to do among young people back then. We loved it. Concert tickets were not that expensive at all. The groups my friends and I loved were Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lynrd Skynrd, Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Triumph, 38 Special, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Rush. I was around the same age as these kids on the dance floor in the video. ABBA is in the top 10 of album/singles sales of all time, selling around 400 million copies. Though I wasn't and am not a huge fan of theirs, their songs bring back a ton of wonderful memories.
I was born in 1967 so I was still a little kids when these songs came out. I grew up listening to different types of music such as KISS, Rush, and the Beatles to name a few in rock, and some disco such as ABBA, and other types such as RUN DMC and other rap artists. just a few different artists and groups over the years. Boy, talk about a throw back. Thank you for doing these reaction videos. Love to you.
Dancing Queen is my sorority’s song, and it’s still played at all fraternity and sorority events, even though it came out before all the current members were born. Some of their parents probably weren’t even born! Love songs like this that stand the test of time.

ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, was a musical and cultural phenomenon, and its legacy lives on
ABBA is an acrostic with initials of their first names
They was two couples:
Agnetha (blonde lead vocal) with Björn (guitarist and songwriter)
Benny (pianist and songwriter) with Anni Frid (brunette lead vocal)
(both couples separated before the end of the group)
"Dancing Queen" is a beautiful song, which shines in the loftiness of its vocal harmonies
The boys achieved here an extraordinary work of Agnetha (soprano voice) and Anni Frid (mezzo soprano voice), each one gives its best effort to match the other (Anni Frid rises in the highs, Agnetha lowers more to the bass) and thus their combined voves achieve records of perfection
And the music is bright and enveloping, from the initial chord it introduces you into the atmosphere of the disco and invites you to dance
English public has voted it as one of the songs they want to hear the most, because of the feeling of joy and energy it gives them (another is "Don't stop me now" by Queen)
