    I love all the binders you keep with manuals for pretty much everything you work on. Me being a young engineer-to-be, I see a lot of peers of mine who think they can remember everything. I like how neat and organized you keep all your reference material, in a work van nonetheless. Always impressed with your skills and attention to detail.

    Just last weekend I worked on a Norlake unit. Last week on Thursday went out to replace the condenser coil the sheared off right at the tube sheet. Replaced it with new coil and did a normal vac and charge. Called back on Saturday for it not working again. Replaced the filter/dryer and revacuumed for 4 hours since the oil was not wanting to release the moisture that got into the system from the first problem. What a nightmare that was. Just goes and shows that the old vacuum by time does not always pay off.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Poe oil won't let go of the moisture with a vacuum, if I believe the oil is shot I'll dump it and put in new. Otherwise the cap tube will plug up and bite you in the butt.

    I do a lot of True residential 24" under counter wine/ beverage centers with 134a, and I have found many of those grey colored evaps leaking where yours is and in the middle of the coil. The replacement coils are black in color, hopefully they hold up better. The build date on the coils that I see has been mostly 2017. Great video by the way!!!

      The new coil was made by Nordyne so we will see. I think of the poor quality equipment when I think of them.

    I thought I was doing something wrong with a lot of r290 freezers finding them with leaking Freon evap s and stopped up caps tubes , compressors being burned up blown compressors blown overloads great video brother

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Doug, these R290 systems are built so efficiently that there's no tolerance for compressors that are low on refrigerant thanks to thin copper coils and they leak refrigerant in the evaporator then burn up the compressor. Another example of the government making things worse.

    Good video rick. Apparently evaporator coils don't last long no matter what refrigerant the manufacturer's are using. Not sure if this is just poor quality or the contents being stored in the boxes. Happy new year to you and stay warm.

      Given True Manufacturing's history on their quality control, I would say that it's a quality issue, but since all the other imports have cheap evaporator coils, many being aluminum, the situation is unlikely to improve any time soon.

  • @timhenry3701

    Just curious, do you make it a point to replace the cap tube when doing an evap? I’m thinking it maybe good practice. I started a new job where I’ll be doing a lot of these.
    Edit to say: the coils they’re using with these are not resilient-at all- I’ve done many.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Normally we replaced the capillary tube anytime we replace the evaporator. It’s a little bit of a pain in the butt but it reduces the possibility of a callback by a lot, now I will tell you if you have a system has been running low on refrigerant the next best thing you can also do is dump the oil out of the compressor and replace it with the same amount you took out, if that oil is compromised It’ll plug up the new capillary tube.

    Which capillary do you use with the R290a for low temperature?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what the manufacturer tells us. We call them when we get the parts.

  • @sdsd4284
    @sdsd4284 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Young tech hear Rick, I noticed after u added the new proper charge ,the evap temp was 20 and the stat said it was 54 degrees in the space ,as it is a reach in cooler 20 degrees td shouldn't your evap temp be closer to 34 degrees ?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      From my experience the suction pressure will drop as the box temp drops but generally the saturated evaporator temperature will hold somewhere around 18° but sometimes as low as 12°. If you look up how a capillary tube system meters it's kind of interesting, as the temperature changes the flow changes. I'll have to look for the article, maybe I can do a video on it. I'll have to get refreshed on it because I forget all the science behind it. But what's interesting is there's no calculated means of determining the capillary tube size and refrigerant charge, the engineers literally have to build a system, test it's operation, cut it apart, adjust it over and over until they find what works. It was kind of interesting how it's not a calculated science but more of a ballpark until they actually run the test from what I read. I believe it was Supco who wrote what I'm referring to.

    If ur gonna use a bucket and the same size cannister for it all the time, could always flip the bucket upside down and put a big enough hole in the bottom with a slit for the hose to go through.. Should be more stable that way if you dont have a proper stand..
    shrug, just a thought..

    I am seeing failures in this type off equipment all to often. Units that aren't even a couple of years old. Hopefully the industry will do something to make equipment last longer. It's not right for a customer to spend $7000 on a True manf.brand cooler and it not last but a couple of years. Very sad

      I fully agree, but unfortunately voting has consequences. People vote in politicians that are bought off by lobbyists that tell them that global warming and all the other hoaxes are real so they come out with alternatives that just sell more products. just like there's no money in fixing the disease just continue treating the symptoms.
