TRASHED Painted ANTIQUE Furniture gets a GORGEOUS RESTORATION...

- I found this ANTIQUE DRESSER with a detached mirror at a thrift store several months ago. I paid $95.00 for this abandoned, painted, DIY Furniture Makeover. When I began removing the layers of paint, I discovered original white oak with beautiful tiger oak patterns. Once the necessary repairs were made, and the piece was completely sanded using my Surfprep sanders and sanding blocks, I decided this piece needed a traditional finish. I chose a dark oil-based stain, finished with several layers of clear Shellac. This was a rewarding project and I hope to find more pieces like this in the future. Thank you for all the support on the channel. Barry

You are so right that anyone can do these things! I am a 67 year old woman that loves making furniture new again. Sometimes restoring, sometimes refurbishing. Totally self taught and don't have all the fancy tools but have so much fun watching things come back to life to be useful again.
I’m just getting started. I have collected about 5 projects. Think it’s time to start. Last is an antique rocking chair made of flame cut white oak? I’m waiting to past to get sone experience. My great great grandpa built it we think!
I’m 65! And disabled. Legs have arthritis. So it’s something I can sit to do.
Love to watch your work!!! This piece I love, but I didn't like the silver hardware. Do u think the hardware is original..looks like kitchen cabinet kind. But u did an amazing job!❤
I would think that the hardware is original since he showed the inset for the lock and no sign of previously drilled and filled hardware handle holes. Everything is simple traditional and a smaller scale. Also furniture from the era around Art Deco often had a modern chrome nickel finish
Darker tiger oak finish makes the lighter chrome nickel hardware sparkle
Dark stain was 100% the right choice for this wood, and the age/style of this piece! Nicely done!!!
Thank you very much!
It always dumbfounds me to see such beautiful pieces painted. You did an incredible job on this one. That wood grain is stunning.
There's a good chance that paint over job gave it that much time to not end up in the dump.
Not just painted, but painted badly in horribly unsuitable flat paint.
Great results for this project! I’m glad you kept the mirror as it seems integral to the overall design. Some furniture artists are removing and not re-using the original mirrors. Thanks for sharing this!
Your labor of love on this one is mind-boggling & the result is amazing!! It takes incredible patience to pick paint out of all of that quarter-sawn oak grain with dental tools. I believe artists like you with your love of wood, & painstaking restorations are creating a renaissance of appreciation for traditional wood finishes. I LOVE your devotion to your craft. Thank you!❤❤
You say it all perfectly here… what a beautiful restoration.♥️
Beautiful, so glad you went with the traditional finish, it looked so sad painted. I hope you add your signature on pieces you finish as you are now part of the history of every piece you restore. I think that's what sets you apart in these videos because we can hear the passion you have for each furniture restoration you undertake.
Wow! Barry, you blew it out the park again! Absolutely stunning.
So beautiful! I'm so glad you resstored it to its former glory! Tiger oak is too beautiful to paint. ❤
My grandmother has a desk made of the same wood, ive loved ot for years cause of the contrasting wood grains. Im so glad i was able to find a name for the wood it will be much easier to look for furniture made from it.❤ you did an amazing job restoring the wood!
gorgeous result! i just moved in to a new apartment and my grandparents gave me some old wooden furniture they had sitting in their basement, and i’m inspired to try refinishing some of the pieces myself! great work :)
This antique dresser is beautiful! I love the style of the piece and that wood is so amazing. You did a beautiful job on the dresser. I have to say that I enjoy watching your channel because you explain things. That is very helpful to me. Thank you.
What a beautiful piece. It reminds me of furniture in my grandmother's house. Such a tribute to the original maker.
That is BEAUTIFUL. Job well done, both to you and the original craftsmen.
The dark stain was 100% the right choice it looks so beautiful with the wood grain shining out. I think a light finish would have left it lacking somehow.
Stunning as always Barry
Thank you my friend
@@MadCityModern The ONLY stain available there is "candle light". Good thing for that.
I've always loved tiger oak. You did an excellent job revitalizing this piece. ❤
Oh Barry, absolutely stunningly gorgeous! As always very impressive! The wood is astronomically beautiful! Awesome job! 😊❤
Thank you very much for another wonderful video.
Thank you!
Anyone would be proud to have this piece displayed in their home! The beauty you brought out is amazing! ❤❤
Thank you
You did a great job on restoring this beautiful piece of furniture!
Another beautiful restoration sir. Such an intersection mix of styles in this buffet. Queen Anne, waterfall, and a tiny bit of art deco. Hopefully, it will find a new home that will love it as it is and not punish the piece again with paint.
❤ punishment by paint 💯💯💯💯
Beautiful restoration, the mirror really finishes the piece perfectly.
Thank you very much!
Wowzers!! What a great job you did on this piece. The mirror is the cherry on top.
Thank you so much
I've never seen Tiger Oak before and wow! So happy you brought the true wood back to life, a beautiful piece. Amazing Job!🌼🌼
I’ve seen it but never knew the name. I think it looks a little like burled wood.
Beautiful restoration. I am 72 and it gives me great pleasure to see a young man appreciate the hidden beauty in aged and used furniture. Wood restored is usually stunning. Thankyou
I love it. It's very like an old buffet I picked up on fb marketplace. You did a fabulous job Barry. As always.
Awesome. Thank you so much
Amasing restoration, Barry! From the way the piece is made, it looks to be a sideboard/buffet, as opposed to a dresser, (flatware in the top drawer, table linens in the bottom two drawers and serving pieces in the side spaces, behind the doors). Since the top isn't flat all the way across the top, it could've even been sold as a bar, with the side spaces used to store bottles, decanters, etc., hence the locks on the doors and not on the drawers. I can imagine one of the old blue glass mirrors in the centre, with crystal decanters setting on it. Whatever it is, you did a phenomenal job restoring its pride!!!
Oh my life! This is exquisite. You’ve done a wonderful job. Also, I gotta say that watching and listening to you is so incredibly relaxing, I’ve had a ghastly day and this has cheered me up. Thank you. ❤
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful! Love the hardware and hidden drawers!!😊
Simply AMAZING Barry!! The Tiger Oak veining came to life right before our eyes!! You're a TRUE craftman & I'm honored to be here witnessing your journey. Hoping all is well my friend, Dirty Jersey out!!
Always love your comments Mike
Barry, now you're talking my language. They dresser turned out incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you. With much love and many blessings.
From the Great Lake State of Michigan 🐢
Most amazing is he only did his first piece about a year ago. He is a quick learner. The veneer repair is pretty impressive.
What gorgeous wood! Who would cover it up? Great work❤
I was shouting from my chair..omg..you made this piece come alive!
What a beautiful job!
Can't believe this masterpiece was hiding behind all that paint. Thank you for your vision and for sharing it with us. 😊
Thank you very much!
Another wonderful piece saved from a poor paint job. Excellent work Barry! I've been interested in refinishing furniture for years now, hoping to finally get started when we move into our first home soon.
I've saved a few of the pieces from my parents that I grew up using, and plan to restore and refinish them for my own kids. Your work continues to encourage and inspire me, thank you for the kindness and respect you show your viewers and the furniture you work on!
This is a beautiful piece of furniture! I am so glad you rescued it from all that paint. I could definitely see someone using this in a bedroom as a dresser but I think that even with the mirror it would be a lovely piece used for a buffet in a dining room. Great work!
So glad you went for restoration on this piece. It looks wonderful!
Btw, the Clematis, and Snowball plants in your garden are absolutely lovely.
Yours is a wonderful restoration of a beautiful piece. Although I'm not a fan of the hardware, I appreciate your retaining it as part of the piece's history. Thank you for going the distance with this lovely restoration.
feel the same.
Your restorations never get old, Barry. Your soothing voice and hat tips to the history of furniture distinguish your work from the typical DIY TH-cam furniture flips. It's a good day when I get to watch a new Barry project. Cheers from Oklahoma!!!
This made my day
Totally agree!!
Not to mention the filming and his editing.
Seeing the tiger oak revealed bought back the memory of my parents sideboard when I was very young. Probably about70 years ago. I love seeing you work your magic and that everything has its place. My father would have loved that! He knew exactly where every tool and box of screws was in his workshop. I was told most carpenters were like that.
Of course they don't make furniture like they used to and you're doing such a beautiful job restoring those pieces. You're doing a brilliant job.
I'm so glad you gave tis beautiful piece of furniture a traditional finish. I know it's not always popular. Young people today like modern looking furniture, but some pieces are too beautiful to change the original look. Your attention to the hardware is exceptional. I'm happy you kept the original hardware too. Thanks for saving a beautiful piece of history. I absolutely love it.
Thank you so much!
Looks stunning!!! Love it
I fully agree! Never paint oak!
Barry, you are such a sweet and caring man. I appreciate how much you care about old beautifully made furniture. Nothing compares to it. Thank you, oh and thank you. The roll top desk was so amazing!
I appreciate this so much
She came out beautifully. Isn’t she regal. I truly love the hardware!
I love, love, love that you’re re-flipping what other flippers flipped!!! Now, that’s authentic RESTORE!
Barry, you did it again. I'm drooling over what you have done with this piece. Such attention to detail. Stunning my friend ❤.
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow. Wow. Wow. What a gorgeous piece. I was definitely getting art deco vibes from the shape, and the refinished piece did not disappoint. I could definitely see this as a buffet in a dining room; it's so pretty and you gave it new life.
Thank you so much!
The dark stain really brought it back to life!
I am always so astonished that anyone would choose to cover such beautiful wood with paint. I am so glad these gorgeous pieces of furniture get a new life through your work.
Well. Barry, every time I watch you put something back together I am astounded. The cabriole legs are very interesting in this piece along with the almost art deco hardware. The mirror absolutely makes this just POW! Thank you for sharing your finds and restorations with us. Kudos to you.
Wow. Thank you
The love and patience you put in each piece is so reflective in the final result. Work of art. Thanks so much for what you do.
Thank you so much 😀
Yes yes yes!!! Perfect stain. Thank the lord for people like you!!!
I’m so happy it was you who found this instead of someone who would have covered it in chalk paint. It’s stunningly beautiful! You can see that grain pattern from across the room. Well done! ❤️🤗🐝
Oh thank you!
@@MadCityModern You’re welcome❤️🤗🐝
This piece was so sad in it's painted stated but once again Barry you made this piece absolutely gorgeous. Love that you did the oil based stain and shellac. Stunning work!
Thank you so much
Yes, Barry I was thinking the grain would hold on to that white paint harder than glue. I was so happy to see that the person that painted it blue the FIRST time didn't remove the original finish saving it from destruction. We lucked out on this one! Once again saving this beauty for someone to cherish for another 100 years.
Good to see you in the comments
Finally I have come across a restoration video showing someone removing the paint correctly, this is how it should be done.
OMGoodness! What a beauty lay beneath that paint. A stunning piece of furniture. Ugly duckling to a swan. 🦆🦢
I’m glad you used the dark stain. Very beautiful
Thank you Kristin
Wow! Barry, this piece looks absolutely awesome. Beautiful work. 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Treats!!! A new video!!!
Thank you
Dark woods and traditional items are making a big comeback, so you did the right thing! It’s gorgeous.
Holy smokes, what a thing of beauty. 😍 Fantastic work, Barry!
This one deserves an award..the Barry Award! So beautiful and someone is going to treasure this for many years! Thankyou for saving it!
Thank you so much
How refreshing to see someone take ugly paint OFF to reveal the natural beauty! Thank you! Too many people today want to paint over natural woodgrain...horrible!😢
Thank you so much
Lovely video…the wood is beautiful xx another excellent restoration Barry…Natalie😊
Why would anyone paint something so beautiful. Thank you for bringing it back to original beauty 😊😊😊
Amazing restauration Barry ! You did a great job bringing that beauty back to life 😍 Tiger Oak it's a beautiful veneer 🤩
Absolutely stunning restoration. When I saw that tiger oak, I was hoping you were going to stain the piece and you did! You did a beautiful job and the piece shines.
Thank you very much!
You did this old beauty justice. You even gave her posies ❤
Thank you
A classical beauty. Love watching you bring her back to life Thank you
Beautifully done! I have an antique tiger oak pull-top desk, more than 100 years old, that is almost exactly the same color as you've stained this piece. Also, your videos are such a joy to watch, and I think what I most enjoy is how you include us the viewers as if we were right there with you, and you put so much thought and care into your content, thank you!
Как вообще у кого-то поднялась рука такую красоту краской заляпать?🙈
Шикарное восстановление 😍
It is heartbreaking to see how people can destroy a beautiful piece of furniture thinking that they've enhanced its beauty there's nothing like Oak, which you're not making any more old these days LOL the richness and beautiful of this w o o d it's beyond words. Thank you for restoring. thank you for restoring the origina look l on this beautiful piece of furniture.❤❤❤
Wow what a beautiful wood! The dark stain was the right pick!
I just found your channel & I love how you’ve mixed furniture restoration with calming music & ASMR. You are so meticulous in your work & it was a total pleasure watching the beautiful job you did on this gorgeous piece of furniture. My mother’s favorite wood was tiger oak & our dining room table, a buffet & 2 of her dressers were all made from it while I was growing up. Thank you! Just subscribed! ❤
Welcome to the channel Linda!
Nossa não sei nem o que dizer ," Só que ficou incrível " vc é talentoso e presta muita atenção aos pequenos detalhes, é o que faz do seu trabalho extremamente diferenciado parabéns amei ❤obrigado por compartilhar
I really appreciate this
You breathed new life into it....Congratulations!🎉
My heart actually skipped a beat at how beautiful it turned out
Thank you so much
Your restoration of this piece came out beautiful ❤you are a true artist
Thank you so much!
The piece may be european in origin, art deco, especially the hardware. From the design I would place it as a sideboard versus a vanity.
Great info. I wanted to suggest art deco based on the pulls but couldn't confirm. Thank you for the help
Indeed this style is quite similar to what was created in Europe during the roaring twenties. Who knows, this piece may have been a traveler in its past!
Every time I see a lovely piece of furniture with paint on it my brain screams, "What were you thinking?" So glad that you restore the furniture so lovingly.
Thank you Cathy
Beautiful. So glad you went with the traditional finish. I really am a purist with the the old pieces.
Am I FIRST?!?!? Yeah Buddy!!!
I think you are this time 🤣
OMG!! It’s gorgeous, I actually caught my breath when you showed the restored piece. I love it!!
You are so fortunate to find these gems and restore them to their original beauty
Barry... I watched this video again and realized you kept the original hardware. I absolutely love it.
So glad you appreciate tiger oak like I do! Another handsome piece.
Thank you
Well, you knocked that one out of the park. It's gorgeous.
It's always great to see paint removed from furniture.
Wow! What a beauty under that sad, white paint!! Thank you for giving this beautiful piece another century of life.
Glad you enjoyed it
For an antique, it has a modern vibe. I think it is the hardware that gives it a look that goes so well with today’s furniture. The outcome is beautiful.
Barry, your work is beautiful.thank you for sharing.❤️
Amazing Berry! Love this piece! You are really an artist!❤
Thank you so much!
Wow, and triple WOW. Such a beautiful piece under that very bad paint job!
Amazing. Each time I see this restorations a fall more in love with wood. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful. You've given back it's beauty to that poor mistreated classic. ❤😊
Oh, wow! Old mirror - much better to have than new lightweight junk. Tiger oak! Unique hardware…. Keeps getting better & better!
It's so nice to see someone actually take the time and effort to restore one of these beauties. Thank you for saving it. It was well worth the $95 and all that time to have such a gorgeous piece.
I've always loved the older things that paperwork allowed to use years ago. And I've always had interest and did recover, and redo wood furniture as well... sadly to say my projects didn't turn out as pretty as yours but it was pretty enough for me and I still have best places in my home ❤❤❤❤
I’m 75 and did lots of refinishing when younger. It’s been a long time since I redid a piece of furniture but watching your videos has inspired me and soon as my creative cottage is completed in 2 weeks I’ll start working on 3 pieces of furniture I already owned and 1 my son gave me. Thanks for inspiring 👍🙏🏻💕
Barry, I’m a writer and your channel has offered me insight into a few ideas for building new characters of future storylines. I prefer the original finishes that you pulled off on this piece and the wood grain turned out very unusual and nice. Thank you!
Thank the lord for the mute facility!
Yes, the Lord is good
