    My #1 most used and versatile piece of gear might be helpful to the other side sleepers out there. I sleep on a Klymit static V pad but I carry a cut in half Thermarest Z-Lite pad. The accordion fold up style. Basically it is a little longer than my shoulders to hips. At night I put it under my sleeping pad. It adds extra R value and extra padding where it's most needed for side sleepers. Hips and shoulders. Adds puncture resistance as well. During the day I use it as a camp seat, glassing pad, wind break for my cook stove, shooting pad/mat or propping up the rear butt stock as you can unfold it to different heights. When bow hunting I strap it to the bottom of my pack. When my bow is mounted on the back of the pack it gives me a lot of cushion when I go to take off the pack and set it down and protect the bottom cam of my bow. Without a doubt the most versatile piece of gear I bring on every hunt.

    Worth noting to those new to backpacking - Bringing either the included pump sack or something like the Flextail Pump is critical for more than just the ease of inflating the pad. Breathing directly into the pad with warm, moist breath creates all kinds of issues especially in cold weather. Moisture inside the pad will make the pad sleep cold, and is just generally not idea as it can lead to mold in the long term. The 2 ounces is 100% worth it 100% of the time,

    Excellent overview of a critical piece of backcountry hunting and camping gear. Looks like you found Nemo there Josh. lol .... The ruggedness of Idaho chasing bears will test it and you even more. Good luck out there. I look forward to an after bear season review.

    I've owned the wide/long version of this pad for 3 years now. I live in the Northeast, so have had plenty of opportunities to test it...have been warm down into the teens. My problem with this pad is durability. I'm not the easiest on my gear, and this now has 2 patches as a result. Both times I felt I had checked the ground before setting the tent up, but wound up with tiny pinhole leaks. One was from a pine needle in PA. I'm going to keep using this in the winter when weight is an issue, but I wish it was more durable. Nemo makes comfortable pads, eyeballing the new XT model, heard it is more durable.

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the info. I haven't had that issue yet. Do you put any kind of ground sheet down under the pad. I usually lay down tyvek to help avoid any pokes!

    • @sueb860
      @sueb860 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DialedinHunter I do use tyvek and since the incident in PA I also now use the Thermarest ZLite CCF pad. Waking up every 45 minutes to inflate the pad gave me trust issues!

    I did pick the same one up last year as my new winter pad paired with my 0° quilt. All the true winter pads are just so damn heavy I wanted to find something lighter but for the same warmth obviously with a weight saving comes a lower r value. I have used it on some trips but not in freezing temperatures yet so I am very curious to see if the warmth will be worth the weight savings. From all my research the size I have is the lightest to highest rated R-value pad on the market.

  • @midwestmtnoutdoors
    @midwestmtnoutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you say that R value is good enough for sub 20f hunting trips or would you go to a higher R value pad?

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've slept on pads with lower r values(3.5) in sub 20 degree temps actually. I think it would perform well and I plan on using it for all of my hunts this year.
      Depends on how low we're talking though below 20. If we're talking single digits or lower most of the time, i think this would still work, but at that point it might be mostly up to the individual and how they personally sleep. Could always go more for something like the thermarest neoair xtherm. That's got an R value in the 7's I believe.

    • @midwestmtnoutdoors
      @midwestmtnoutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DialedinHunter appreciate the feedback. The Xtherm is also high on the list and that’s what I would get if money wasn’t a factor - availability and cost (lots summer sales) have me leaning towards the Nemo.

  • @simonvance8054
    @simonvance8054 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes you can inflate it by mouth but cold moist air lessens the R value and can internally damage the pad, I've had it happen. The pump sacks are essential if you want to keep your pad in good condition. Looks like a great pad though, thanks...

    So I couldn't help but to notice the size, you barley fit on. Length and width for people that can sleep like a rock (not me) I think that probably works. Also if you're trying to get the lightest pad with some comfort. By any means am I an expert but I just purchased the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Ultra Wide. Weight 1 pound 12 oz. with an R value at 4.5 on sale for $113 on sale total with tax. 3.25 thick and the outer baffles 3.5" that make it very comfortable. Size wise its bigger that this Nemo but just a bit bigger. I haven't field tested it yet, this is also my second pad I've had so not a whole lot to compare too. I don't sleep like a rock so I need a bit more comfort. Size, weight, R value and price..... This Big Agnes seems like a winner! I'm interested in you thoughts after field testing it. Love the channel!
