  • River Bronze - The Pursuit Of A 20 Episode 1
    Welcome to a new series, River Bronze, which is all about river smallmouth bass. In this journey, my goal is to become a better river smallmouth angler, and it isn’t complete until I successfully land a 20” smallmouth bass on camera.
    In today’s episode, I took my kayak out on a spring day to kick off this journey. The fishing had ups and downs, but for the most part, I felt it was a successful outing. The crankbait was a great option for covering water, and the tube ended up paying off with the big fish of the day. Stay tuned for more episodes of River Bronze!

    Ya know what I love about these series? You title them, and upload a few videos building up (hopefully) to the goal of a 20. Most TH-camrs just skip right to the big payoff. But you let it build, the bluegill series by the end you made a bluegill feel like it was a genuine prize. And I think that fits in with the theme of your channel. Growth. I’ve been watching you for years and you’ve grown from an Online Outdoorsman to the Gold Standard of ultralight products. Proud of you bub

    Got into some river smallie action on the Buffalo and White River in Arkansas last month with my older brothers and had an absolute blast! Most of our good ones...including a 19 incher...were caught on the ol' ned rig (TRD). Hellgramite did some damge as well. Super pumped about this series!!

    The Wallkill river in NY is chock full of monster smallies. Even a 10" bass outs up a hell of a fight, but targeting waterfalls off dams, and little pools and eddy's, you can hook 4 pound smallies in the tiniest little pools, and the fight is INSANE!

    • @sonofnothing

      My absolute favorite bait is the jointed Shad-Rap crawfish pattern

      @@FishAnything yeah it sure is! I love walking through the river, thigh deep, finding a rock to stand on, and finding a flowing bit of water between 2 massive rocks, letting out 6 feet of line and dragging the crankbait through the flow, and then BANG! right beneath your feet a monster 😂

    Dude, I've been chasing a river 20 for about 3 years now. Lots of 17's and 18's so far. Such a fun goal to try for because even when you don't land a biggun, it's still a smallie. Either way you can't lose!

    Love this series idea. You have my attention. Across the Big Pond from you in IL we see smallies partial towards inline spinners and small spinnerbaits. Try 1/8, 3/16 smaller profile 1/4 ounce. Pond Magic is a nice size. This should be good. Thanks Ethan

    Good water as a rule means moving water, where there are eddys, there will be fish in the vicinity.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  ปีที่แล้ว

      100% agreed. I will likely stick to larger power baits in this series. Will work in the finesse tube/worms when I need to draw bites, but big topwater is my confidence bait for big smallies so that will likely get a lot of casts.

    I also have a three rod limit for river/creek kayak fishing. I also have an $80 limit per rod. That ‘paid off’ on my last creek float when I broke all three rods at the same time. My friend grounded on a sandbar and the current was too fast for me to stop before I crashed into the back of his kayak.

    I believe that was a Chestnut Lamprey, they are actually native to MI and the great lakes region. I'm not sure about their effects on the ecosystem, but I know they aren't nearly as bad as Sea Lamprey for sure.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you - I have been made aware of my stupidity. Definitely won’t be killing them moving forward since you’re totally right. That was in fact a Chestnut Lamprey and it is native so there is not point in killing them. I’ll definitely not make that mistake again! I have done more research and it seems the Sea Lamprey are significantly larger and a bit different looking so I will keep my eyes out.

      @@FishAnything I found out basically the same way haha, it just feels wrong to not dispatch of those things. I used to kill gobies when I was a kid because of the DNR warning for them, now they're just a normal everyday fish because they are actually healthy for the great lakes, funny how things change so quickly.

      I want to clarify something... This was a Chestnut Lamprey and I incorrectly identified it as a Sea Lamprey. I will not be killing them anymore because they are native to the area.
      Still think they are gross as heck though lol
