    Your reaction to the lamprey? Priceless! I'd have done the same thing. Heck...I'm always tempted to just cut the line if I catch a freaking bullhead. Blech..... Lol

      XD honestly that thing was terrifying. I don't mind catfish, but I agree they are always annoying to handle.

    Oh man Ethan, you've found my [not-so] secret fishing hole. Almost no one drops a kayak in that lake. Good ice fishing too.

    Glad you found my favorite lake when I don’t have a lot of time to fish only 5 minutes from my house. Was there Sunday and had a ball hope to see you there sometime

    Chartreuse for life!!! Congrats on adding another species to the list. I have a couple places I fish that I frequently catch monster sized golden shiners especially wile ice fishing.

    There’s a pond near me that some “big” golden shiners come out of but I have yet to get one.
    I’ve always liked fishing for panfish and stocked rainbows on light tackle but your channel has inspired me to even smaller and lighter for more unique situations and fish

      Thanks so much! Hope you can catch the big shiners this year - would be awesome

    Its kinda funny that you said that about the way John ties his double jig rig. That's the way I started tying mine too. I like using that rig with 2 panfish magnets so I can get more distance with those 1/64 oz jigheads. 👊👍

    You're correct about there being some native species of lamprey. The sea lamprey is the invasive one!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, pretty sure this was a Sea Lamprey. Should have probably disposed of it. But I was terrified of that spooky critter lol

    These ultralight videos are so different from the norm, I like how you try out the different rods for us. Any thoughts on trying a Dobyns Colt panfish rod? Reeeeeeally curious how it fishes compared to some of the others you've tried.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting! Never heard that but I guess it wouldn't surprise me. It is so hard to know exactly how fish see things. I have never had their eyes :D Maybe we should come up with some Fish Goggles?

    Are you fishing that on a tighter line, like a drop shot, or letting them both sink to bottom?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Drifting and twitching them around weedbeds. Similar to how I fish a single jig!

    what fish finder you currently using and would you recommend it?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the Lowrance Hook2 5x. It is solid for the price. Very simple little finder though - there are better models out there if you're willing to pay a bit more.

  • @RamonOutdoors
    @RamonOutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I need to toss the double jig rig more often. I'm just notorious for snagging off jigs. lol

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have more vegetation up here whereas you seem to have more brush. Probably less ideal in your waters.

    Double jig rigs are fun, twice the chance to snag!
    Just me then? Hmm.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha they can definitely be snaggy around brush. But using the micro jigs helps because they sink so much slower!

  • @sebastiannava7789
    @sebastiannava7789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should try it again using a white/chartreuse jig vs red jig or something 👽

    • @FishAnything

    One of the reasons humans possess such great pattern recognition is because we are hunter/gatherers. You don't need to organize this knowledge because a spreadsheet would not capture all of the tiny nuances that contribute to success in a venture like this. It may help with product development but that's not our business ;)

  • @BarryP
    @BarryP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm at 7:00 into the vid and have paused to make this comment, and am putting out an honest prediction. I don't think color matters here, it's going to be placement. I bet the bottom jig remains the winner after the color change.

    • @BarryP
      @BarryP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now at the end of the vid, you made the right call. This certainly displays a weakness to the knot, though. You broke off twice where otherwise you would have yak'd a decent fish. You might want to forget what you learned and stick to palomar, as if you were setting up a drop-shot. Just some advice from the pig hunter of Team Dink! Love ya, buddy!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely agree I may need to explore another knot. The second one honestly wasn’t the knots fault as much as it was mine though. I held that fish up in a straight tension on 2lb test. Silly mistake!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't 100% sure if it was a Sea Lamprey at the time. There are technically native lamprey in our region too. I believe after looking online, I probably should have killed this critter

      @@FishAnything I would at least report it. I think they use chemicals to manage them and keep them from spreading according to wiki. Also apparently they are a delicacy?
