I'm surprised you didn't bring this up, though it may be nothing. Rob Lucci and Who's Who are wild cats, while Kuro is a house cat. Indicating not only his weakness by comparison, but his willingness to adopt a domesticated lifestyle as well.
I was also thinking that his sword finger technique might be a style he devised to compensate for his inability to use finger pistol.
Yes! I wanted to include their feline connection, but the video ended up longer than expected. But I hadn't even considered that Kuro's trademark claws might be a supplement for Shigan!
@@TheCrapCafe_ Another thing I find interesting is Kuro's recent cover story. He's reading a book titled "heritage" and there are 3 cats pictured in the scene. 2 are elevated, while the other looks up from below. My takeaway from this is that Kuro gained his position through inheritance, while Lucci and Who's Who got theirs through merit. Him reading this "heritage" book implies a sort of introspection on his part. And it's cleverly disguised, as heritage brings our minds immediately to the plot Kuro devised to rob Kaya of her inheritance. Thus the book doesn't seem particularly out of place. The only mystery that remains is the identity of Kuro's CP agent parent. I'm definitely going to ruminate on this some more.
@@TheCrapCafe_ I have ruminated. I believe the main CP agent we see in the Ohara flashback, the one who activates the buster call, is Kuro's father. They both have a widow's peak, similar eyes, eyebrows, foreheads, and hair color. The big difference is that the father has a big square (like literally square) chin. A nice 1st generation chin. His son, Kuro, has a more rounded and soft appearance. A narrower, more feminine nose and jawline.
... wait that would make Kuro Spandam's brother, lol. I completely forgot that was his dad.
@@TheCrapCafe_ i like your analysis, maybe next video you should include the cat connections
@@TheCrapCafe_ Thanks for listening to me ramble, lol. You've gained a sub, sir.
This made me realize some of the East Blue villains are actually surprisingly strong and in hindsight it was impressive the strawhats were able to defeat them. Arlong’s another good example of it
Exactly! With the strawhats and especially Luffy being monsters even from the beginning of the story, it's so easy to underestimate the strength of some of the early antagonists in the series!
@@TheCrapCafe_ Excluding minor villains like Wapol and Alvida Luffy is punching above his weight class until Hody Jones. I actually believe Arlong to be stronger than non-roided Hody.
@@RedElm747 True. More often than not, the straw hats benefits from the "they are not taking them seriously" treatment. Their eely are either holding back (because they do not want to be noticed. Buggy and Kuro are two good example of this one. They both have a reason to not want to much attention from the world government) or they are underestimating them (Arlong, Don Krieg...) or when they are taking them seriously, there is some outside interention that still save their ass (Robin that save Luffy from Crocodile, Dragon that save Luffy from Smoker...)
This is a perfect theory to make sense of Kuro. Even when we first met him, he really didn't seem like the type of person that would turn to piracy. To me, if he was so intelligent, it would make way more sense if he just entered into work field that required high intelligence, where he would easily receive quite a bit of money. Piracy seemed like a means to an end for him, especially in the way he treated every aspect of it. It seemed like it either wasn't his first choice or that something forced him into it. This would be a perfect explanation for that case. With Oda bringing attention to how ill-suited he is for it, how he treats the idea of piracy, his reported high intelligence, and his ability that's so close to Shave, this fits extremely well. New headcanon added.
That's not even subtext, it's text.
Luffy tells it straight to his face that the way he does things isn't a pirate's way.
He schemes his way around everything, trying to avoid risk and maximize results. It's like planning a mission. That's not what pirates do.
Pirates go with their guts.
@@gamongames
Then again Blackbeard (the one Oda sees as the closest representation of a real life pirate) does a mix of both. Its pretty interesting how Blackbeard is both a manipulative schemer and a reckless gutsy idiot.
It is also possible that Kuro didn't get captured along with Who's who, and simply abandoned Who's who because Kuro know what's going to happen to failed agents. That will explained why he is at East Blue, because he is already there
That's a great point! Kuro's definitely the type to flee for safety and leave his friends behind
@@TheCrapCafe_ Hahah "friends"? I dun think he have any, prawns maybe
and some minnows too!
I was thinking the same thing! It would also mirror his later actions. He had already successfully faked his death as a Cipher Pol agent so he faked his death yet again as Captain Kuro because he knew it would work.
Juri would’ve been smart enough to know what was gonna happen to them if they stayed. So could’ve jumped off after the attack.
A lttle thing I remember in Pirate Warriors 3, during one of the non-canon treasure missions, Spandam has a conversation with Kuro, offering him a spot in CP9 with Kuro refusing. So it looks like somebody already had the idea of connecting them before.
No way! I played so much of that game! I wish I had noticed that interaction!
Came back to this video to see if anyone else had pointed this out, just heard it earlier
Even if this is never acknowledged, this is my head canon.
i wish someone could bring this question to Oda in an SBS. I'm sure he would love that
SBS 42 -
D: Which is faster, between Captain Kuro's "Shakushi" and CP9's "Soru"? TELL ME. by Niku-oh
O: Ah yes. I got a surprising number of questions about this one. Captain Kuro's Shakushi (introduced in Volume 5) was a pretty tough one. To answer the question, speedwise they are about the same. But when Captain Kuro uses his trick, the speed is so great that he doesn't even know who he's attacking, but CP9 has complete control of their move at the same speed. So if there were a competition, CP9 would be overwhelmingly stronger.
Plus captain Koru crew and Whoswho crew is really similar they both wear cat ears and cat costume so I think Kuro and Whoswho are very close friends and they both love cats before they get hunted by the government
It was pointed out that certain CP9 members had advantages specializing in each of the power. Such as moving fast when in iron body. Pussyfoot could be just an extended Shave. The tapdancing is probably just him warming up to do it. I always felt the kicking multiple times was meant to refer to Moon/skywalk
23:23 Not necessarily. Remember, the Straw Hats never officially became pirates until just before going to Loguetown, which is immediately before going to the Grand Line, the place where they spend the rest of the story. Whereas Kuro was in the East Blue his whole pirate career(as far as we know). I think, with the Grand Line’s reputation of being the pirate graveyard that’s extremely dangerous, there’d be more bounty hunters in the four seas than in the Grand Line because they’d want to catch the pirates before they go to the Grand Line, since the four seas are less dangerous. So that could actually be why Kuro was always hounded by bounty hunters while the Straw Hats rarely encounter bounty hunters.
One of the most solid One Piece theories I have ever seen. Congratulations
May i add that both leaders of cypher pol who had the spotlight were both "cat themed" and kuro is also "cat themed"?
With this quality, I'm surprised you only have 2 videos on right now.
This theory is actually really well founded. Great research man, you've earned a sub and a like.
Thank you so much! Welcome Aboard The Crap Crew!
Ah man, the D.E.N.N.I.S system. Who wouldve though it would be used in a one piece theory.
LMAOOOOO
I’m pretty sure that last scene of Kuro looking at Luffy’s bounty poster is an anime only add in. But it’s still a berry fun theory
What’s his last scene in the manga ? what exactly happened to him after the arc in the manga ?
@@__M7MDwe still don't know. We know he's alive but we never see him again other than the recent chapter cover story where he's reading a book but we don't know where or when this happens exactly.
@@cygnusprime6728 that's not even a cover story but a cover art request so it doesn't even really matter
@@lordfreezer5631 whatever lol. Always that one guy "aKcTcHuAlLy"
@@lordfreezer5631🤓
Well done. I don’t think Kuro necessarily would have even made it to prison alongside Who’s Who - since he was already in East Blue when the Red Hair Pirates attacked, it would have been easy for him to disappear into the East Blue with the government assuming he died at sea in the conflict until he got his first bounty.
This would be an awesome opportunity for Kuro to become a CP0 agent after redeeming himself by having some information to provide to the government.
I feel like Captain Kuro could be an orphan from the Kurozumi family.
I always thought that there was a connection between Kuro and CP9, but it was more so along the lines of Water 7 being a reimagining of Syrup Village. This is a LOT more fun!
The meaning of a “real pirate” was a theme of the entire East Blue. Really contrasted with nami’s typical idea of a pirate
You and the hidden island are the only one piece theorists I respect
BRO HOW DO YOU ONLY HAVE 98 SUBS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED BRO you deserve a sub and like like bro the editing amazing and the way you say stuff goes so smoothly
Thank you so much, I hope you'll enjoy my upcoming videos just as much!!
This is the kinda theory I wanna see. Not just chasing the latest chapters, but finding and connecting all the dots throughout the whole story.
This was such a fresh taste
makes a lot of sense, especially after the Bonney flashback stuff with Alpha
Yes! I was so happy when I read that chapter. It really confirms a lot of my suspicions regarding the legacy admissions of CipherPol and how desperately the agents will serve the government in order to protect their children. Just wish we met alpha before I had this video scripted and recorded!
18:46 did he just pull a one piece-esk eye catcher on us
It is pretty interesting if Kuro was a CP 9 member. He is good at stealth and assassination so he fits the bill.
The way you deliver your theories is perfect. Please don’t change who you are. Me.Morj also does a great job delivering theories with in-depth info.
this is a fun head canon great job!
Thanks!
Minor point, but most CP9 agents we see, regardless of DF powers, have an animal theme, wolf, owl, lion, giraffe, leopard, weasel, etc. The 'Black Cat' would easily fit in there, Kuro holding on to a remnant of his previous life.
In the flashbacks it seemed to me more like he was annoyed that his ship was getting attacked by Marines (or bounty hunters in the anime) three times a week. If he really was on the government's most wanted list, wouldn't they have started sending assassins or at least higher ranking marines way before that point?
I feel like this theory bases a lot of assumptions just on Kuro having independently developed something similar to one of the six powers... just like Sanji did during his timeskip.
so like, this actually could've been planned, oda has clearly had at least some of his ideas for the final saga since at least allabasta, and he had to have some plan of how shanks got the nika fruit.
but, that east blue intelligence ranking is actually really suspicious, not just ben being higher than kuro, but also kuro being higher than nami? you'd think in an on the spot ranking, 1st place would go to a main character who we've already seen do a lot of smart things and has an unnatural ability to determine the weather, but no, that's 3rd place, behind a forgettable villain from the first saga, and a guy who isn't even from the east blue. at least beckman is going to be important later in the story, but why is kuro still ahead of the strawhats in anything?
Kuro's extremely in-depth plan to erase his existence really came off like it was meant to deceive more than just typical Marines, but a CP9/0 caliber investigation team. He really felt like a very cover all basis by experience guy.
Kuro shares a serious exchange about how Luffy says "I will never be a man/pirate like you" as he looks at Shanks' hat on the floor, and Kuro emphasizes. Not "will." Someone like you CAN'T be like me! Maybe implying his agent to pirate transition. I think people overlook Luffy's ability to observe and expose an opponent's strengths very quickly. Because he's being silly or naïve mid fight. However he figured out Kuro's mist move during his 2nd use to even express unnecessary movements within his form straight to his face. Now that I think about it! Him clinging to Kuro for his Bell. Neutralized his novice level Soru & Tekkai(when kids beat his face with a shovel, bat, and pan?) moves because he couldn't find his rhythm being unbalanced by Luffy's tense wrapped limbs around his torso. Limiting his focus. Left him vulnerable or jammed. Luffy was later able to use his Kuro experience along with briefly watch Lucci evade and pierce Paulie to learn Soru/gear 2. From just that little experience. I think Kuro is probably the prototype concept Oda would later go on to flesh out deeper organization villains like Crocodile & CP9/0 hence how we can create linked head canon over it.
Given I've always considered Arlong arc the prototype of World Government's Celestial Dragon cruelty. Arlong IMO was a slave much like Jimbei, and that's why he randomly lost his cool around Who's Who as he finished him off. It's not confirmed, but would make sense given how Fishmen/mermaids are for the most part commonly abducted, sold, and enslaved. Fishmen face massive discrimination too. Arlong was projecting his experiences on Nami's village. And there's this part of me that wants to see Nami free Holy Land slaves during the big raid. And have her extend kindness to re-enslaved Arlong while Jimbei & Bonney are there. Expressing how much she's changed after Nika freed her from a similar parallel fate.
That theory was actually REALLY good! It makes me see him totally diferent!
Maybe he wore those claws to help make his weak finger pistol stronger but after going to east blue just started using them as swords
You are a blessing and a curse, ive watched the don krieg one like six times and the kuro one like eleven times lol, ur voice and theorys are good just so addicting lol, keep up the amazing work
Thanks so much!
The intro rules
Great first video man, I’m waiting for more.
such a good theory, keep going man, im here for the ride
This video is so well made 🎉 great theory as well
Thank you so much, you made my day! I hope you'll enjoy my upcoming theory videos as well!
Kuro made appearances in a lot of scenarios with a high concentration of marine/government agents in the Pirate Warriors games, although not related to the story, I can imagine that it still means something.
another thing i noticed during this video is that his sword style (having a sword on each finger) may be his own way of simulating the finger gun that he was never able to master naturally
also, one point i'd like to add to his soru being a technique worthy of cp9, is that soru itself is supposed to be used for movement, so him using it to strike enemies while still being in the soru state may very well be a reason why he could have been allowed in cp9 despite his lack of mastery in 5 of the 6 powers
Another small detail is that, with the first half of the grandline mirroring east blue, Water 7/Eneis lobby and Syrup village do mirror each other
12:41 While I agree that Kuro probably did plan to axe off Kaya's parents, he himself pretty much admits that he didn't kill them. I.e, their accidental deaths truly were an accident.
Though... the thing that really sticks out to me regarding this theory is how Kuro doesn't even have a solid grasp of a single Rokushiki technique. Like, yeah, Spandam's weaker than even a normal marine soldier, but he was Nepo-baby who got slotted into a deskjob, but this theory's trying to assert that Kuro was an outright combat agent... in the tippy-top cipher pol agency who actually went out on missions.
Kuro being an ex-Cipher Pol agent, I can buy.... but CP9 is way too far out of his reach, I feel.
Great Theory! Keep it up bro, i am sure your channel will grow
what a neat Intro man!
12:36 if i remember it correctly Kuro himself says he didn’t plan Kaya parents death, even though it would have made his plans easier he probably intended to just dispose of all of them in the attack
I wonder what other villains may have been cp9 trained. I found out cp9 agents are trained as kids on some island.
That's a great question! There's actually a 3 year gap between Khalifa and Rob Lucci. Maybe that's a hint that there's another character in the story who's been trained by cipher pol, who's currently between the age of 27 and 30! Haven't been able to find any good candidates yet tho.
Fantastic name for a one piece theory channel
Don't know if I forgot it or if it wasn't mentioned but on the panel with the kids training for Cipher Pol you can see a weak looking boy with big round glasses. I could imagine that this dude had some problems holding the glasses on his nose.
i wonder if the pussyfoot maneuver is meant to be an anti-haki attack, like that one move luffy used against enel. Gum Gum Airhead + that one pinball move he used by bouncing his punches off the ship so they went in random directions.
observation haki would probably be useless against an attack that can't be predicted/read.
This would be a perfect way to bring him back into the main story.
We need more of him and krieg, maybe them teaming up or something ridiculous just because.
please don't let this be the only video you ever do... well earned sub. i hope there's more on the way.
Don't you worry, there's more coming soon!!
Kuro said that he had nothing to do with the death of Kaya's parents, also, Kaya said it herself that she was weak because of depression, Kuro wasn't poisoning her
It's brave of you to assume that the "Man of 1000 plans" is just getting lucky so often lol. But what do you think about the fact that the live action adaptation accepted the poison narrative?
@@TheCrapCafe_ The live action also had the cat brothers become part of the staff, and Django was nowhere to be seen in the live action. It's almost as if, omg, they change a bunch of stuff, can you believe that???
Isn't it more plausible that she was depressed but also that he was poisoning her? Oda oversaw the live action directly and that detail was added in. The live action was also very true to the manga with other scenes.
Great vid
Ayyyyy I remember you you made a donation during tekking101s stream! I hope to see Kuro as a new Cross Guild member
I mean if you go by the cover story featuring Kuro it seems he was trained by the government but he eventually quit at some point to become a pirate but not before seemingly becoming a great user of shave. At least if you take that cover story as cannon.
He isn't a great shave user though. He can't control where he is going using it.
Nice theory it actually makes a lot of sense
This was a really great theory. Definitely love to believe this one and I’ll definitely check out the Don Krieg one.
Underrated ytber
This was fantastic.
Woah!!! After 20 odd years & someone gotten this idea up live into here @this channel. #sincere #standing0vation
The Sea Train had agents from a bunch of different Cipher Pols.
It wouldn't make sense for the World Govt to put such a low bounty on a former member of CP9
It's much more likely that he was in CP3 or something working his way up, and got fired like the rest.
Underated channel ngl
This is a damn good theory
This is your first video? This is a awesome video
Yes, this is my very first video. I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
I want to point out that in PIrate Warriors 3 there's a random event that can happen during any level of the dream log where CP9 tries to recruit Kuro. So clearly you're not the only one who's thought about this
I loved those games growing up! I must have subconsciously remembered it lol
Your right they used the exact some mudis optiond I never f saw that but it’s so clear

I hope so too!
Genuinely just upset that this banger theory made me want more, but your other videos aren't visible.

12:38 actually kuro explicitly tells jango, who also assumed kuro had killed them, that kayas parents death was completely an accident and was surprising to him as well, he had nothing to do with that but he does say right after that he would have killed them eventually anyways
If you keep on making bangers like this, you’ll quickly rise to the top of One Piece TH-camrs and theorists. Bravo
Thanks for all the love!
Imagine the final fight being kuro pulling up with arlong and just destroying imu and luffy lol
This theory is really great
Did your Kreig video get struck? This is the only video I see on your channel besides shorts.
This theory definitely seems plausible to me though, he could have easily been a trainee like Nero, who paralells him in being themed after something that looks similar to a big cat but is a far less prolific predator, being a house cat and a weasel respectively
This is actually my very first video! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I wanted to include a segment where I mentioned all of the Feline characteristics of some of its members, but the video was getting a bit long.
And my Don Krieg video will be done and on the channel by next week! I hope you'll check it out!

Great theory
This holds up but also from a meta narrative perspective if this is really true why wouldn't Oda have just revealed it during who's who's little flashback, all he wouldve had to do was just toss him into one of the panels and it seems like the only chance in the story he wouldve gotten to reveal it
same reason why we only know of zoro's lineage in sbs. not all of Oda's ideas would be transcribed into paper because of page limits
if someone can ask about this via sbs, we might get a confirmation. but imo this would be another kalifa moment where oda's answer felt like he came up with it on the spot. he can just say "yeah kuro was from cipher pol" then that's it
New one piece theory goat, god bless crappy boy!
A "Crappy Boy" indeed lol!
12:03 It is interesting how none of the cp9 we know in Water 7 wasn't planned, I heard Oda just made those who look interesting the main antagonists.
