You can. Just take this on board. Its not you playing the piano. It's your hands. And they don't want to get involved with your brain. I'm new to the piano, but used to have a job training people muscle memory on a production line. It's just the same. I'm not amazing or anything, and a bit lazy. But when l sit at the piano, me and my hands don't know each other. No one, no matter how good has any control over their hands. At doing anything. Just a small bit of guidance. By the way, tap on a table with one finger and sing it. Jobs done.

You can count 16 beats as 1234,12,123,123,1234 and the left hand only "strums" on the 1's in the count. Start slowly. Good luck!
