I had a relationship with a nice girl who worked at a Bank in Thailand. Great lady, she took me to her house but didn't want to introduce me to her parents. The ones with good jobs seem to protect their reputation and family name, at all cost, two different worlds
There is a huge difference between a girlfriend and a mia chao (rented wife). The video, I think, is discussing mia chaos. Decide which you want. My points below are mostly relevant to finding a girlfriend.
Two points:
1) While I agree that you should generally look for a girlfriend who has never been a bargirl, I disagree that you should have her give up her job to take care of you. Having her dependent on you for money is bad for both of you. This can be different if you want to have kids together, especially if you marry. However, in general, it is much better if she retains her financial independence.
2) The girl needing to pour money into her family is primarily an issue with those from poor families, especially from up country. However delightful the girl might be, most of the time you should resist girls with those ties, especially if you are an expat. Although it takes time and effort, instead cultivate friendships with girls from middle class families. Then, the family may or may not approve of you, but there will not be the expectation that you are a walking ATM machine. There is never any certainty that the friendship will develop into a sexual relationship but, if she genuinely likes you, it usually will eventually. If the girl is a virgin, it could be a year before she is ready. On the other hand, when I was early forties, I met a 20-year-old university student who had experienced a bust up with her conservative, but well off, Northern Thai family. She seemed shy (had never had a boyfriend) but quickly bonded with me as someone who could support her emotionally at a bad time. We ended up in bed together for the first time within a week of meeting each other. Try to meet several nice middle class girls, and see how things develop.
One downside with a regular girlfriend is that there can be very strong emotional attachments. It can be tough if, for any reason, you or your girlfriend needs to end the relationship. With a mia chao, a parting gift of money is usually all that is needed.
Being handsome, and not old, helps in attracting Thai girls. Even more important is looking smart: well groomed and well dressed. A girl likes to feel that she is with a classy looking guy, not embarrassed to be seen with him. Speaking Thai is helpful, even with educated, middle class girls. Their English is often pretty basic.
All the above represents generalisations. I have seen many exceptions.
Already in my fifties, a couple of times I entered a go-go bar and had a good time talking with a vivacious, entertaining 25-yesr-old dancer. She could tell I liked her, and seemed disappointed that I did not barfine her (I almost never do). I was walking back to my apartment after 2:00 am and ran into her buying street food just after finishing work. "Can I come to your room?", she asked. "As friends, no money"? "Yes". That was the beginning of a great friendship. She was a very popular bargirl, making excellent money, and never asked me for a cent, even taxi fare. About three or four times a week, she would call and ask to come over. When she had her period, she went back to see her mother and her two children for about three days. When a guy she liked barfined her, she would stay with him all night. Otherwise, she only did short times. She preferred to sleep with me rather than in a noisy, smoky room she shared with other bargirls. She fundamentally liked men, and vanilla sex helped her unwind after a stressful night working. I 100% trusted her. If I needed to leave while she still wanted to sleep, I just told her to lock up when she left. She sometimes did a little housework for me before leaving. This went on for about two years until a guy asked her to run a guesthouse he owned in Phuket and be his girlfriend. She discussed it with me before accepting. I said it seemed a good long term option if she liked him.
I could cite other experiences, both my own and of other people I know. There are no certainties where women are concerned.
So Thai girls don't mind older guys, but it's more transactional the older you are ? Makes sense given the environment

I remember in Bangkok when I used to go drink down a little street in Ratchada and this pretty nice thing (early 30s, me being about 27) one day said, James, I want to sponsor you! (ie. I want to pay you to be my gig!) She said I want to pay you 20,000 per month. I was a younger guy at the time with my first gf here and I freaked out and said no. She had an old French guy paying here loads of dosh. Thinking back I should have just dumped the girl I was with and done my duty! :D

Nah, not ever having a Thai GF. Would rather go for STs and have a maid who will come three days in a week to clean. More cost effective. And you’re right Daz, that most Thai families are in debt. I have seen that too, even in upper middle class levels in Bangkok. Never understood this face concept that makes most Thais live beyond their means.

Guys In their 50 s from places like Sydney, London, NY etc can still generally easily outspend most Thai or Chinese people, and they don't need to borrow.

It’s funny, the proprietor of the restaurant where we would regularly dine, told me one time when i came in by myself (of course), “You know most guys come to this city and enjoy a bevy of beauties.” He was trying to clue me in… but i was in Luv and oblivious to the admonishment. @@mino5931 yes. I agree for people under 40 the debt levels are very high. Your figures could be extrapolated to the UK and Australia also, which have similar levels of household debt. I know a lot of men in 50 s though who can pay cash for luxury items. They can still be at risk from a crafty Asian gal though. The scary thing is that some men are actually putting themselves into even more debt to provide for girls in Thailand and Philippines.

What do you end up getting by paying a salary, her living expenses, shopping needs/wants, nightlife needs/wants, I mean you are paying for what exactly? A maid? Sex? Sex is such a small part of a relationship and if all you are paying for is a girlfriend??? Doesn't anyone want to be liked, cared about or cared for as you care about and care for them? Perhaps lead to a commitment to each other often called love. I was the only one helped her, she went home to the family, got a puppy and was completely different. Never hassled me for money, I just sent her what I could afford. She hit 40 and begged me to live with her in her village. I wanted to keep on working. She died suddenly as was an alcoholic brought on by the bar work. I have now lost my job and wish I had gone out to live with her. She would still be alive today. There are some decent girls. I am 62 so 40 about right according to your calculations. I was lucky from the first time, and yes, she worked in a bar, and yes, after 10 years we still live happy together for 10 years now... and no, i dont give her a salary, we share everything together... my wife is now 51 and i am 61... yust thinking with your brains, and not with what you have between your legs is a big help! I know a couple guys in their 60's who have Thai girlfriends and both ladies still work normal jobs at Central festival . Much better to only have to spend 8 hours a day with them + sleeping of course. I could not imagine spending 24/7 with anyone personally, except on a short holiday. Appreciate that you walk as I do.

Brilliant video Daz and good advice but I think it’s to no avail mate 555 still so many guys from the west just don’t seem to get it .. Was there in April for 30 days shagged 30 plus different ladies almost all had some mug from a western country believing there in a relationship and sending money .. I learned quickly after my first time out and "never ever" sent one satang to Pattaya or it even crossed my mind to have any so called Thai girlfriend.

Beside you're a brave man to endure the hot weather and humidity in that country, I been there many times and not spend more than a week, for the weather and the expensive is to get a girl, I went to Philippines which the weather is less hot, 31 degrees, in bangkok is 35 degrees, beside I spend less in Philippines, and that what's really matter to me.

Pattaya is the perfect place in the planet to get old and be single covering your needs by ST as you go. For need long term, I would prefer a cat , that is cheaper in maintenance and dont talk or change your Tv Chanel, and give enough company.

I think that if you consider the relationships that he describes as similar to sugar daddy relationships, then it's more understandable.
It ties in nicely with the host bars. The Thai attitude to s3x attracts many people from around the world because it is so open. But it's also monetized. That's whether you're looking at ST or gik or long term companionship; gay, straight, or (in the case of the host bars) f2m. It has a value and that value is whatever an individual is prepared to pay!
Personally, I think it's refreshing compared to the West, but open to abuse like any other system that has people and their emotions at its heart.
@Big Shite Travel it's the Thai version of a mistress. I don't know a lot about it but it seems to be more acceptable within the culture than in the West.
Its the old answer think with the big head instead of the little head and you will do all right. You are always paying for everything until you either run out of money or she decides there is another guy who she can replace you with.

I thought I would add another comment since I was musing your story about the Bar Host Club, well a Norweigian male friend of mine talked one time about a bar near where he worked in Bangkok, where Thai ladies who were a little more mature (30 plus) would go to pick up foreign men, wealthy ladies who pay for everything you can imagine! I cannot remember exactly the name of the Bar on Sukhumvit, but It is not far from Nana! When I made my first trip to Thailand, I met the daughter of a top Thai Army General and she gave me no chance to pay any bills, she had a chauffeur who took us all around Bangkok! I worried about getting involved with her as you can imagine, but I was obliged to remain with her the whole day and could not escape easily! You might imagine this was heaven, but far from it with her being extremely demanding and trying to be dominant because of her position and hi so status!
A friend of mine, Bangladeshi guy, now one of the top people on their cricket board, got picked up by a rolls Royce in Bangkok about 40 years ago. The middle aged Thai woman took him to one of the drive in sex places and gave him the sex of his life. These are where you park your car and have a room adjacent.
I should have mentioned another aspect to my story above and that is the lady mentioned kept calling the Hotel (Rama Gardens) to invite me out again and again, that proved to be a real pain in the backside, so I had to see out my 5 days stay which I had pre-paid and move to another hotel so she could not contact me again! I asked the hotel to block calls from her, but they failed to do so! If you ever meet a Hi So lady called Lilly with a Chauffeur and limousine - BEWARE!

Not just Newbie’s! I’ve been attending The Festivities on and off for 15 years. EP also provides a word from “The Wise” to the wise, to stay on track. The waters can run deep and even an experienced swimmer can find himself caught in the cross currents if not mindful.
The first time I was in Thailand was in 1989, and I learned very early that a full-time Thai girlfriend is a waste and a Thai wife will only disappoint in the long run. Either way, her family will always be the problem because of the high, never-ending cost. So if you all want regular sex (once or twice a week), take common sense precautions, and you will have no problem finding excellent service for a fraction of the price of a full-time girlfriend. You might get lucky and find an excellent regular service provider for a few months or even a year. If you are fortunate, you will find a great little hole in the wall with reasonable prices for good food and drink with great company, and if you are truly lucky, they may even remember your name and greet you with genuine appreciation. All along, your life will be blessed while you save loads of money and avoid unnecessary drama. (Just a different perspective, honed over the decades from experience and observation.) 🙂
The irony is (Daz story in a prior video about his hairdresser friend) that the Thai culture basically expects the Thai GF support her Thai BF, but when the farang comes along it's a totally different game plan.

However, I lived and worked in Thailand 🇹🇭 full time for many years and met some fantastic girls. Thailand 🇹🇭 is my home even though I m not there full time at the moment due to work.

I love Thailand and Thai culture. So much so that my hobby is learning to speak Thai. I speak and understand well enough that over the phone with a Thai stranger I am often asked if I am Thai myself. Which I am not. I am American. BUT, for the reasons you enumerate in this video I chose a Filipina woman and reside in the Philippines. It is dsifficult for me to imagine how to have a normal (non monetary) relationship with a Thai girl.

After being in relationships in Thailand and in the Philippines,your bet are way better to find a geniune partner in the PI than in Thailand.
The reasons why it is like that are various but definitely real.
Filipinas are more ready to remain with you in hard times,being mostly Christians, believing in monogamous relationship as compared to Thaies women having their"sanuk"and "all for the parents mentality"they will be tempted to move out fast.

I learned the hard way many years ago that business partnerships rarely work out, especially if the partner who paid for the business is living in a different country. It wouldn't surprise me if the the massage salon was legally owned by the Thai Woman, making it easy for her to sell the salon anytime she wanted. I don't think foreigners can own 100% of any property in Thailand. I have been to Thailand four times and it is the best place in the world for a vacation, but I couldn't live there long term because I would no doubt turn into a sex-addicted alcoholic and would probably have died a long time ago. Anyway, I'm glad you are enjoying all of the great things in the Land of Smiles.

One of your best videos, and agree about all of it. You don’t go looking for love in red light districts. An LTR with a girl young enough to be your granddaughter is not only expensive but statistics show a nearly 100% odds of failure. Both were expecting support in the area of 15000 salary or more, plus occasional large bills, total approx 25,000/mo. They definitely expect financial help. I say "or more" because there is near constant pressure from them to keep buying them things. And they never really asked for things that didn't seem reasonable, it was just that they don't have much to start with. No furniture nor real kitchen appliances, computer, old phones, etc. It all adds up, not cheap over time.
If they didn't have those things before you getting in a relationship with them, why do they need them now suddenly? Stand your ground and say no...MANY more Isaan girls who would be ecstatic dating a good farang who simply pays the bills.

This is spot on with the expected costs of a Thai GF or wife in any setting. You have to cover the family payment, which is not that much if your girl is fair. 10-20K baht per month, anything more is up to you. It is a little payment that goes a long way, Thai society doesn't have social welfare, they're ruled by a corrupt and selfish elite, social welfare is totally private and relies on family, if you want to join a Thai family, there is a responsibility you have to be willing to shoulder.

Your assessment of the true cost of dating and entering into some relationship agreement with a Thai lady, is as honest and accurate as it can be. I am suggesting a follow up video to this great one. In all honesty, in Thailand you can either buy company and affection, or for the most part, you're just as lonely as in the west, if not worst!; is that a true statement, a good subject for a good follow up video.

It’s not possible to be as lonely as in the West, unless you are totally broke with no money at all.
With just little money you will still get laid which you will struggle to do in the West, with larger sums.

After the getting laid phase, comes the sad reality. It is par for the course that you take over the monthly contribution to her family, it is not a lot of money and is the custom. If you're not willing to understand and conform to this expectation, then you could look for a partner from a culture you are more comfortable with. I consider it chump change compared to the benefits of a loving Thai wife.

Whenever I see an older western man with a new baby, I'm overjoyed it's not mine.
I'm 39 and had a whole bunch of different girlfriends. Professors, doctors, business owners, senior office workers. All of them stunning. Never paid for any of them aside from everyday stuff. They don't all need or want a man to pay her a salary just to date them or to support her family. Of course if you are 60+ and morbidly obese those girls that are going to charge you might be your only option. But I follow a lot of other Thailand channels where the guys in them have regular Thai girlfriends that are not bar girls who are not nickle and dimming them to pay for every little thing. These girls have their own jobs and their own money and they are just excited to date Western guys because to them we are exotic and Western guys treat their girls a lot better then the local guys do.

One thing to remember is 60% of bar girls are not happy with what they do and are not happy with their lives. Alot of the girls are sent by very poor families to work the bars.
