    About bill padding,if you realise there’s more drinks in the bin than you have drank,you call them over,then if they say that they have not made a mistake but you know your right,don’t argue with them,just finish your drink,pay the bill and go.and never go there again

    With regards to your last point about tipping, you are right in the provinces that tipping is not the done thing. I tried to tip 300 baht on a 1700 baht bar bill in Surin and it actually caused an argument!
    I do however think that there are 2 specific instances where tipping is absolutely expected in the tourist zone. 1 is if a bellboy carries your luggage to your room, they will expect a tip but 20 baht is fine. 2 is for a massage (normal not dirty), I think a 100 baht tip is good etiquette in this scenario.

    Your 100% correct about the tipping,I’m guilty of this myself,Pattaya it is almost expected by massage girls or bar staff even when they do a lousy job.
    Not being a cheap Charlie but unless I receive exceptional service I no longer tip and also in restaurants you normally find a service charge of 10% written in Thai something to be mindful of.
    Great work and love the channel 👍🏻

    • @chillip9074
      @chillip9074 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't think a massage needs to be exceptional to deserve a tip, they don't make a lot unless your going for a little something extra. As long as it's not a lazy massage or she's on her phone you should leave something. Agree tipping for most things isn't necessary though.

  • @stencarlsson6419

    Tipping is very simple. I learned way back in the early 1990 ties , you always give 20 Bath to the bar and if you want, a 100 or + Bath to the girl that has been looking after you. But do it discreet
    and next time you set your foot into the same bar you can be sure you get the best service and never have to have an empty beer in front of you. This way the bargirls get their shared tip
    and your special girl her share for looking after you .

    I once had the opposite of a bin pad... It was my first time at a gogo at LK... sat outside the whole time and wasnt intending on staying since the night was young. anyway the girls outside were holding a sign for happy hour i forget the price but it was a special if you bought three beers. I took a seat and i bought two LDs for one of the girls and the three beers. After my first drink came the classic routine daz has mentioned many times played out. "where you from? first time in thailand?" then two other girls come over, massaging my shoulders and hands asking to buy them drinks. "only one girl at a time" i said to the others... they wipe fake tears from their eyes but at least they left me alone 🙃then i got my bin. the two lady drinks were on there but not the three beers! I wanted to pay after each round so I pointed out the missing beers and the mamasan said yeah its ok. Meanwhile in my head i was all "??? what does she mean its ok ???" when the bar girl had to get up to go dance the mamasan came over to chat. She was nice. She asked me if I wanted to boom boom the bar girl 555 "what is the bar fine?" i asked and she replied something to the effect of 2500 baht and i couldnt help it but pick my jaw off the floor! We both LOL'd about it bc im sure even she thought the cost was ridiculous. by this time i finished my drinks and still never got an amended bin. hansum man discount? 555 anyway I felt strange about the situation so I paid my bill left a nice tip that covered the missing beers and then some. kap kun kapped the bar girl, went off on my way to treetown but not before getting my c*ck grabbed by the mamasan on the way out. 😃

    I tipped my caddy 300 baht the first time I played a round of golf. Yikes! My expat golf buddies gave me a good talking to
    and explained that I would be spoiling the caddies and making them look cheap. I was torn because I always felt that tipping was a personal choice and a caddy that spent 4 hours tending to me in the hot Sun was worth more than what they wanted to pay.

      If they are on a budget and trying to live in Thailand cheap and enjoy retirement playing golf regularly I would imagine your golf buddies don't want you ruining the status quo by tipping to western standards. Overtipping because it's nothing to you or back home you would tip a lot more shouldn't apply here, I don't agree with the 2 week millionaires that call people cheap for not tipping a Thai a days salary because its nothing to you, be fair and tip appropriately when its a social norm. A lot of people overtip because it makes them feel superior when they drive a truck back home, the Thais are just laughing at how gullible you are when you do this and it can lead to you becoming a target.

    Great Video . Specially about Tipping I think it is ruining Thai Culture, if I go to tourist areas I usually Tip 20 Baht per order only that too for first one or two drinks.
    It is not like USA where employees are underpaid and expected to love off tips. Usually in Asia ( or most sane countries) employers take responsibility of paying their employees because if you don't have capabilities to atleast pay minimum wage to employees you should not be running business.

      That's one thing that I found exhausting in the US, having to tip for everything - I mean, as a Brit, we do tip for some things. But damn, tipping every time your buy a drink at a bar is just obscene! :D

    Great advice Daz, some of us learned the expensive way and it never harms to tell what is now obvious to some of us LOS veterans. That said, in 15 years and 29 trips, I have never eat in a mall like Terminal 21. What is the cash card system all about? Many thanks.

    • @CheekyMonkey007
      @CheekyMonkey007 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The food stalls don't take cash, so you buy a card for 100 or 200 or 300 baht then pay with that, when you leave, you reclaim what's left on the card.

    Hey daz ,very good advice again , I found terminal 21 an amazing place , nothing like the shopping centres back in the U.K. , I think ladydrinks are common sense , just be sensible , about the tipping ,I usually give 20 baht to bell boys or girls , 100 baht to the taxi from the airport , in the past I have been to the same bar many times, my friend was the owner ,so,I have been a little more generous with tips for the girls ,now it’s closed ,sadly , so, when I come next I will be taking your advice , keep up the good work 🙏👊👊

One question, what is a good tip for a lady costing 1500 baht? Sometimes I gave an even 2000 baht. I know it’s a lot but those few went above the average girl. Cheers Daz. 👍🏼

    Always super to watch your videos.
    Fantactic. I have a little? For you.
    I come from Denmark, and someone told me that not many places in Thailand, the banks want to change our danish money into thai bath... But what about euro or dollars? I have a thai bank account, but not everybody have that. Can they be sure if they bring euro with them to Thailand? Do you know about that Daz?
    Thanks for your amazing videos 🙏

      Someone else said this, so maybe you should pre-change your currency into USD before you come, then No Problem

    • @sterling557
      @sterling557 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Pattaya there are currency change booths on every street corner, that change USD, EUR, GBP, etc.
      Bring brand new bills with no marks or tears.
      A Higher denomination bill (like $100 USD bill) gets a better rate than a lower one (like $50 USD) bill.
      ~
      Only change 1 bill at the airport when you arrive. It is a better rate in Pattaya, so only change enough to pay for travel costs to get you to there.

      Yeah, a warning about this kind of reaction should be included. When you're out with a bar girl she may push you to tip more or even hand your change over herself. In Thai culture this action is credited to the bar girl rather than you. You're nothing but a wallet or ATM.

      @@everythingPattaya my pal got tired of the smiles and requests for lady drinks after they wolfed down their first watered-down beer. We smiled and thanked them, and headed for greener pastures. In our little hometown here far from Manila, there are like 5-6 bars with available, friendly gals. Though it's not like they'll go with you ten minutes after meeting them--there's no bar fine but there's a 'vip room' you pay a few thousand pesos for where...well...you know, but the provincial girls are less inclined for casual fornication...so I'm told. I'm content with their charming presence and personality for a couple of hours.

    You will be asked if you want to buy a lady drink before your eyes have a chance to focus. If you pick a girl that turns out to not be what you wanted it could be a major pain to get rid of her. Only call someone over after you've had a chance to confirm you like what you see and she smiles back.
