    The dad (Jose Menendez) was the producer of Menudo (the boyband which had Ricky Martin). The Menudo members have come forward and said they were exploited and sexually abused.
    The parents José and Kitty would take inappropiate nude pictures of Lyle and Erik when they were kids and these photos were shown in the trial, in addition to Erik's medical records at age 7 that were consistent with sexual abuse. The cousins testified that the brothers had told them they were molested when they were kids. The cousins warned the mother Kitty at the time and Kitty did nothing. Another cousin said that José would shower with his teenage sons; an uncle testified that he saw José punching 5-year-old Lyle. Kitty's therapist said that Kitty confessed she was hiding dark and embarrassing secrets about her family. A neighbour testified that José had CP films.

      When I was 13, we moved to a small town. Even at that age I recognized that many of my friends parents did the same. It was troubling to witness and at first I couldn't process it because I never grew up with that. As adults almost all of those friends experienced substance abuse with a couple just disappearing, never to be heard from again, even when their parents were on their deathbeds.

      @@feyrol42 I do wonder if Kitty would have been better to them had she been able to get a handle on her depression.. I understand she was in a lot of pain, but I’m glad they’re showing that her words really did a number on the two young men… She may not have been an awful as Jose, but she still contributed a lot to the abuse over the years. Having a father who sexually abused them, then a mother who says she didn’t want them in the first place…. I can’t believe they kept it together as long as they did. I just feel bad that they now have to spend the rest of their lives behind bars. Honestly, I think they should get a retrial. I think now more people would see that these men aren’t a threat to society.

It definitely gives us a deeper understanding of how there psyche got to that level of hatred to unleash. I think people fail to understand that abuse comes from people in all forms and tax brackets. My SO and I both had abusive parents, no need to share details or categories but trust me that for both of us our childhoods managed to achieve some of the highest levels of illegal trauma afforded to children not living in a warzone. The most interesting thing is all 4 of our parents are affluent and high-achieving, multiple degree, business-owning respected members of society. For that reason, few people have ever sided with us on this issue. We've both been denied and rebuked by basically every family member or adult peer we've ever known. My gf revealed her father's history of illegal and completely socially-unacceptable activities to all the employees that work at his clinic a few years ago (a lot of those in management are long-time employees/family friends) and they all ghosted her and still work there. What I've learned in life is that it's far more important to individuals to be able to pay their bills and feed their children than to stick their necks out for a random, potentially-lying abused child that is not their responsibility. That's why abused children like me are left behind by society. Going toe-to-toe over their own kid with someone who has manifested power in their life specifically so they can get away with abusive behavior is obviously going to be an uphill battle for anyone with a conscience. To those who've never experienced abuse, you'd be surprised by the amount of mental gymnastics we see from others to simply "keep the peace." Maybe the moral of the story is that we shouldn't be so concerned with being polite to others about their parenting. If you see any signs of someone mistreating their children, perhaps what we should do is immediately confront and shame them for it. But unfortunately because of various power dynamics and a legal system that can be manipulated, that isn't always feasible.

The state tried them over and over and over again (literally), but in the last trial- the judge (basically same side as the state) forbade that the defense couldn’t use the defense of sexual abuse, this was what was causing the jurors to be hung up. The state in the end would not allow the defense to use the only defense they had, after 3 trials and not being able to use their defense- they were found guilty. I remember what the press said at the time of the Menendez murders and the trial. It really affected the court of public opinion, with them painting the father as a stand up guy and the sons as greedy. Thankfully, we have come further as a society in regards to our understanding of SA and what the victims go through. • @Anazitar658
    @Anazitar658 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The crazy thing in the 90’s the brothers were widely believed to be faking their abuse allegations. Retrospectively from a 21centuary lens many psychological profiles of the boys proved that they had all the hall markers of abuse.
    But in the 90’s the prosecution and public labeled the brother’s allegations as the “abuse excuse” and argued that “men could not be raped as they do not possess the necessary gear”.
    There were LOADS of family members/teachers/doctors/psychologists that corroborated elements of abuse they had noticed which built an overall horrifying picture.
    There were literally naked pictures taken by Jose (the dad) of the boy’s genitalia. Which was disgusting as they showed them to everyone in court.
    And recently there has been more evidence with people coming forward of being abused by Jose including members of ‘Menudo’ a boyband under Jose’s record label at the time. As well as letters the Erik had written about the abuse to his cousin etc…
    BEWARE: This drama portrayal of the case really is beefed up and showcase’s Murphy’s bias on the case. There is a-lot of embellished fiction integrated into the storyline. Lyle’s caricature is wildly out of character and is very nefariously portrayed.
    Like in addition to Murphy’s strange incestuous sexualisation of the brothers together (which their is 0 proof of). Lyle’s character later in the show is villainously shown to be lying to a reporter ‘Norma’ saying “he faked his emotions in court ”. In the real case this never occurred but he did say he had hopped him showing his true emotions would help get the jury on the brothers side etc…
    It really just takes a villainous approach to the brothers. A-lot of aspects of the case are fudged or embellished.
    But I guess everyone is readily able to portray and believe what they want to believe in relation to those case etc…
    But PLEASE keep in mind lots of aspects of the case are adapted to Murphy’s portrayal. I’d recommend you look into the case in your own time as it is fascinating as it was the first criminal trial for the court proceedings to be aired in real time to the general public.
    Saying all this the videography and the actors in this show are absolutely incredible! So worth a watch as long as you are familiar with the case and the dramatic liberties in this portrayal of the case.

    • @lissaC.W.
      @lissaC.W. 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      So I’m gonna be honest, I only know a little bit. I know that the abuse was mentioned throughout the trial however was there any solid proof that the parents abused their kid or is this just the brothers statements alone and accusations because if that’s the case we can’t go based on that, a lot of people jump the gun on gypsy Rose Blanchard, if you look into the case, the fact of it, she lied and exaggerated about a lot of things even when her medical records were released she has a chromosome deficiency disorder, which explains the procedures that she had done wasn’t. She only had three invasive surgeries so her mother didn’t have much health and by proxy. It looks like her mother was just a fraud and con artist so she can get her daughter, free trips and free vacations and free Stuff free house?
      Which was wrong, but she wasn’t medically abused by people believe and people watch a documentary or some fictionalized show on Hulu and believe that she’s telling the truth . Watching her interrogation alone, she’s a pathological liar and shows it, and she also seems to carry traits of a sociopath.
      So I don’t wanna jump the gun because I believed her right away until our criminology class reviewed her case when she was being released this past year December and I realize that she did use a man on the spectrum lied and manipulate him demonized in the media. A lot. He not only was on the spectrum. He has level two autism, which means he needs someone to guide him. He has low IQ mental health issues. And he literally thought he was saving gypsies life, and ask gypsy to just run away with him multiple times and she wouldn’t take no for an answer
      So there’s been a Justice when it comes to Nicolas. He is serving her sentence. He’s the one that should’ve gotten the plea deal
      So I just want to be careful with this case. Myself I’m a a victim. Of SA. as a child, though I did not resort to committing the ultimate act I went through other means, and my abuser went up self-destructing in his own life.
      I don’t want this to be an acceptable act nationwide or any kid can claim that they were abused after taking their parents life. One kid recently took her parent life because of the cell phone. And I want people like gypsy Rose Blanchard making it a popular trend. Becoming some social media, influencer And basically making money for rambling onto a camera not even working one day for life and she’s doing the same exact thing. Her mother is doing, which is using her baby and exploiting it for attention and money.
      EDIT:
      OK, so my comments are not showing up in the bottom so for people who replied to me thank you . I will definitely be looking into it and it’s very concerning from what I’m reading so far. I appreciate the information and the response people have provided. 🙏🏽👍🏽

I can’t even imagine what that does to someone’s brain and soul, which is why the last thing I’m gonna do is sit here and judge how said person goes about ensuring that it stops! The young men that they were back then could NOT be thinking like the average person. Erik was practically tortured all through his life, his brother had just found out about it, as he thought that the predator had only abused him and stopped years earlier. He was furious at finding out what had been happening to his brother. I don’t know about you but I would have gone totally mad. When he confronted his father about that and threaten to tell people if he ever touched his brother again, Menendez also threatened him. Those guys were obviously not thinking straight through the PTSD, rage, fear and Stockholm syndrome. To question their decisions and the way they went about doing what they did makes little sense compared to their main motive.
