They are so amazing. I've loved them since I was a teenager and it's been awhile since then lol. "Coffins full of Kindergarndrners, is thus what you call free?" God that makes me tear up. Uvalde, TX you're in our prayers.
That is why Rise Against is my favorite band of all time. Their music is true and they pull absolutely no punches. Their music has and still does help me through thick & thin.
I agree with what people are saying. The message of this song as not as clear as their other videos such as September's Children. A new firm opens up, and plans to tear down a ghetto to make room for their new building. They don't see it as being a place where people live ('My God is better than yours.' 'My gun is bigger than yours.' Basically I'm bigger and can do what I want, and there's nothing you can do about that). One of the men, the younger one, experiences the community he'll be destroying on his way home. He refuses the water, thinking that he's above buying from the man. Then, he sees the community. He sees the basketball, the guys popping wheelies, he sees the happiness and life the people are living. At home that night he thinks about what it is that his firm is doing. The next day, at work, he takes a fresh look at the city, through new eyes and a new appreciation for the people who live there. Not exactly the music video I expected for this song (I totally interpreted the song as being about America and the way we force ourselves onto other countries), but this could easily be a more accurate interpretation of the song and its lyrics. Great job, Rise Against, and keep up the amazing work!!
+Andrew Snyder Like most well written music the song can be abstracted so that your original interpretation could also be correct. If we take a second to abstract what you've written: the song is very much about not recognizing other's rights to their life, their homes, their beliefs etc. So what you thought the song was about actually is in a way what the song is about. +Andrew Snyder When the band posted the video, Tim said it was about being tired with of all the pain in the world, "coffins full of Kindergartners, is this what you call free?", so the video is kind of putting it in context, the firm doesn't see the neighborhood they're moving into as it truly is, one man finally does and goes back to tell them "people live here"
+Andrew Snyder No. This video is about the middle class and the lower class. And the different lives of both situations. the guy on top of the sky rise is upper class. when the people in the streets in the neighborhood are the middle class and lower class families. And the higher class guy is evil to the lower and middle class families. Everyone needs to think about this video on what it really means.

I think it's because they view the people and actually support causes of acknowledging in real life over the political issues and social issues they actually sing about. Example is seeing a whole forest cut down. I feel like more modernly people are living in their own world when bad things happen instead taking any stance to share how terrible it really is. People stopped pushing for a better world and started pushing to be fake again and pretending the worst crisis are ignorable and you have to be happy and accept it. I think it'd be a different world and better one if people started dealing with the crisis and acknowledge them. Dirt swept under a rug piles up and doesn't actually go away.

This song helped me through the toughest time in my life...i always listen to it when im feeling down or hurt and it takes the pain away even if just a little. Thank You Rise Against
It's been 10 years now, summer of 2014 and this album had just come out, I had just finished my 2nd year of college and looking to get a summer job. I got a call from home hearing that my father had had a stroke and was in the hospital and it was very bad. I had this song on repeat for the whole 4 hour drive on my way home and I was in total shock, did not know how to process or what to feel. When I got by his bedside he was barely conscious and couldn't speak, he just mumbled, but he looked at me and recognized me immediately and was trying to ask me why I was there, as if he wasn't aware of how bad the situation was and that it wasn't important enough for me to be bothered to be there. That was the last time I saw him alive. Now 10 years later I can't picture his face or hear his voice anymore, but if I play this song it all just comes back to me, somehow all my memories of him are tied to this very song and lyrics and I cannot listen to it without tearing up or outright crying. I love this song man, it's my favorite Black Market album song and it's not even close even though there's a lot of amazing songs on there.
My God is better than yours And the walls of my house are so thick I hear nothing at all I followed you out in the storm But it carried you off And I burned every picture of yours Was that not enough? My gun is bigger than yours So let's arm the masses And see what the bastards do then Walking tall once set us apart Now we're down on all fours Do you cry my name in the dark Like I do yours? These storms are getting stronger now Trusses all bend and sway Lightning hits, the power goes out in the fray As the waves crash high And the shoreline disappears I will scream to the sky "Hey, people live here." My dreams are not unlike yours They long for the safety And break like a glass chandelier But there's laughter and oh there is love Just past the edge of our fears And there's chaos when push comes to shove But it's music to my ears May you be in Heaven before the Devil knows you're dead May these winds be always at your back 'Cause when we're all just ghosts And the madness overtakes us We will look at the ashes And say, "People lived here." From the penthouse to the holy martyr Sea to shining sea From the coffins full of kindergarteners Is this what you call free? From the hate that drips from all your crosses Are your hands so clean? There's a wildfire and it's spreading far From sea to shining sea When we're all just ghosts And the madness overtakes us I will scream to the sky, yeah I'll scream to the sky Yeah I'll scream to the sky "Hey, people live here."
This song is beautiful because wherever you live, at least one of the lines will touch you to the depths of your soul, it shows that everyone has the same problems.
I just finished reading "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe, and this was exactly the song I was looking for to describe how I felt after finishing the book. God damn, this is a powerful song. I love this band so much.
There may never be more haunting and stirring lyrics than the adapted Irish Blessing used in this song. “May you be in heaven before the devil knows you’re dead, May these winds always be at your back” Such a sucker-punch, right in the feels. Every single time. Sadly, there may never be a time period when this song is no longer a necessary reflection of our humanity, or lack thereof.
I use this in my social movements class to summarize the experiences of the Poor and the Indigenous Peoples in my country at the hands of the Government, Corporations, Elites, and other exploitative forces.
My favorite: From the coffins full of Kindergartners, is this what you call free? Form the hate that drips from all your crosses, are your hands so clean? There’s a wildfire and it’s spreading far from sea to shining sea.
@@JohannesWOW this song is about the gentrification of a town and people who cant afford such a change where did you get buying new jordans from? thats just shoving words where there wasnt
+Max Power I live and breathe Rise Against. I just feel like this song hits me a lot more than the rest of the acoustic songs. Actually when Tim does that new version of Swing Life Away life where he plays with the capo on 3 instead of half step down, that hits me as well..

Rise against is one of the bands that when you looked at them without listening to them is that they would be a scream-o type band but they are a living example of what people should be able to do which is forgive each other and live in harmony instead of in hatred and act upon anger and madness against each other. Rise against, you are number 1 on my list of bands hands down.
Hey y'all, before reading this I want you guys to hear me out. I'm only ten and I'm spitting facts over here. Im growing up with two autistic brothers, a split up family, and living barley knowing my real family. So maybe instead of saying children are dumb or unwise, maybe just take a look at yourself and think, "is this whole I am? Is this what they are? Am I actually correct?" And maybe, just maybe, you'll become a little wiser. The song is most likely about all the horrible things about us because we have made ourselves out to be entitled to greatness. We think we are the almighty, the warriors, the fierce ones. I was playing this in my car and just thinking about the lyrics. "My god is better than yours" I can't believe us Christians have come to this.. Remember in grade school when you would have to read about the Muslims and how they forced their Christ upon others and would torture them til they would believe. Remember thinking how horrible they were? WE ARE THE SAME! We think my god is better than yours, my gun is bigger than yours, therefore I have higher authority than you and I am bigger and better than you. When it says the coffins filled with kindergarteners its talking about school shootings. I remember listening to this years ago thinking "why does it say my god is better than yours? I'm ten now and I feel I shouldn't know about all of this. Man this country's impact on the youth. My dad once said "We're spending all this money on some fucking wall but none on education? Some of the schools round here don't even have art class." And as someone who has a general understanding of how bad this country is, this just seems like torture to me. Some schools make you hand in literal cash and if that gets stolen then damn, you might go without eating tonight, or tomorrow night or the next or even the next. *Is this what you call free?*
What a damn good comment. I hope you keep up the good work kid because it’s terribly difficult to find such pronounced observations and interpretations among the most educated of adults. Your critical intelligence and awareness is truly impressive and I hope you maintain that kind of awareness throughout your entire life because the future is going to depend on the likes of brilliant people like you. Gotta say it again, damn good comment.
"my dreams are not unlike yours, they long for the safety and break like a glass chandelier but there's laughter and oh there is love just past the edge of our fears and there's chaos when push comes to shove but it's music to my ears" Those lines really resonated with me, it was deep
Beautiful song, no just because of the music but for the message too, as someone who was born and still live in a place ruled by corruption I've been hit several times by violence, injustice and poverty I also long to have peace and safety, I long to have a better life.
This is so impressive and full of emotions... it makes you think about the people and the world and it makes you think about how we treat each other. We need more music videos like this. This is awesome and perfect😍
So underated. The writing is never corny with Rise Against. These guys practice what they preach also. One of my favorite bands of all times and I'm 46 years old and have listened to everything. More relevant than ever given our political climate .
Rise against, I started with you guys after seeing you in Philadelphia 2004 with bad religion and from first to last at the electric factory. First album I listened to was siren song but to date I have bought and listened to every album and I must say....I would not be here today without the music you guys have created. It has saved my life, given me great memories when my friends and I have come together to see your shows, and to say that I'm grateful would be a vast understatement. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. For all ours flaws as human beings and a country, for you guys to have a voice means that there is hope yet for humanity. And for all the other fans here, I love you guys like family and next time I'm at a show I hope you'll all be there next to me, singing along and looking toward a hopefully much brighter future ( with many more Rise Against albums)
These guys established themselves among the greats 13 years ago I believe. They grow with each song and album they release, it's crazy to see how many people have discovered what a great band they are and will continue to be.
This is my favorite band for a reason if you can't understand the message in each and every song then you need to open your mind to the world around you.
I can´t even express how true this song has proven to me during my lifetime. Looking all around me, I get very similar feelings and impressions as the composer. May we one day all understand.
Couldn’t find the lyrics so here ya go My God is better than yours And the walls of my house are so thick I hear nothing at all I followed you out in the storm But it carried you off And I burned every picture of yours Was that not enough? This song actually made me cry too, mainly because of some of the lines and how deep they were and also just taking a look around watching the music video and just trying to imagine how hard life must be for the poor people You know it's a deep song when it has that kind of effect on you
I love this song so much. It was instantly my favorite on the whole album. Still play it all the time when I'm alone in the car and need to sing loud to get out of my head
May you be in heaven before the devil knows you're dead May these winds be always at your back 'Cause when we're all just ghosts And the madness overtakes us We will look at the ashes And say, "people lived here" ……….WOW, just wow! I can’t stop looping this verse :O
Okay, super late comment, but there used to be graffiti in the alley behind my place in Baltimore that said "People Used to Live Here." Still a relevant message.
AMAZING shots. Tyler W. Davis of Monolith Productions did the videography. Him and his crew are the best at telling a story through their images, adding emphasis to the bands who are lucky enough to say "he shot our video." he also shot a few of Pianos Become The Teeth's videos and they are just as powerful! great band, Rise Against. they picked the PERFECT video guys to visualize their songs stories.
This video has done a very good job of being slow and not too full of blunt information, which lets the lyrics of a song with so much meaning bleed through, rather than pushing a specific meaning or scenario.
Here with a heavy heart because of another mass shooting at a school in Uvalde, Texas. Why does our county seem doomed to repeat the same mistakes and cost countless children their lives?
Rise, yours is a sound I'll gladly take with me to my dying breath. Through your passions divinity can be seen ever so clear. To almost 2 decades of being there for me, thank you. With all of me, thank you. You've saved my life more times than I can count.
My interpretation: he rich men are planning to build something new and the young man is the architect. The new building is going to be build where the other people shown live right now, but the rich people din't think about that when planning. Only the young man visites the place and sees the people. First he refuses the bottle of water but then he accepts the car wash. When he comes home and sits on the couch he thinks about the project again and the other morning he sees the city differently. He now knows that people live there. I think it fits the song perfectly, it is beautifull and makes me think again how anybody can make a difference.
+Danti o, my first impression on this music video was about gentrification. The music video fits the song perfectly. You hit the nail on the head! Unfortunately, so many people missed the message on this comment thread.
Yeah. Rise Against nailed it. Again. Pure brilliance and an extremely beautiful and gripping song. Excellent craftmanship that takes a stand. If only more artists were this engaged.
i just had my youtube on auto play listening to rise against. Came across this song and it speaks to me in so many ways. I have already listened to this song 20+ times since finding it. Rise Against still has it. Great song!
Rise Against is one of my favorite bands since 2006... Anyone knows other bands like Rise Against? I'm talking about rock bands who fight for human and animal rights, and are not stupid rock stars...
Radazure, damn that is good. Over the last couple days I have been looking for a good rock-ish band, but still kept my old school punk style. Found a lot of decent bands the last couple days, but they are more hardcore/melodic hardcore-ish than anything. They really lack that raw rock sounds with the punk mix, but growing up in Chicago with the old 88, and then the formation of RA, I guess I got spoiled. The "activist" part of RA is only a slight perk for me. We may share similar ideas, but I find more to their songs than just the activist or political portions. Kinda why I got out of Anti Flag a while back. Focus too much on politics and your life really becomes one sided and spiteful, imho :( . Thanks for the recommendation, I will be looking up more Strike ASAP.

We will look at the ashes
And say, "people lived here."
Wow. Just... Wow. Rise Against does it again, folks
There may never be more haunting and stirring lyrics than the adapted Irish Blessing used in this song.
“May you be in heaven before the devil knows you’re dead,
May these winds always be at your back”
Such a sucker-punch, right in the feels.
This song actually made me cry and I have no idea why, you done it again Rise Against.
The walls of my house, are so thick I hear nothing at all🙏 incredible
The best acoustic Rise Against song? For me.. Yes it is.
There's no best when all of them are perfection.
+Max Power If they're all perfection, how about we call them all the best? xD
check out their other song Hero of war
Mohamed Shaltoot Or Swing life away. Or Roadside, even if it's not played on an acoustic guitar.
+Max Power I live and breathe Rise Against. I just feel like this song hits me a lot more than the rest of the acoustic songs. Actually when Tim does that new version of Swing Life Away life where he plays with the capo on 3 instead of half step down, that hits me as well..
This song is so fitting for today's events
Ain't that the truth
Not even just today's events. Gentrification has been going on forever now
rise against are one of the most impactful bands in my life and to many others. rise against everything, rise against forever.
Lyrics:
My god is better than yours
And the walls of my house
Are so thick I hear nothing at all
I followed you out in the storm
But it carried you off
And I burned every picture of yours
Was that not enough?
My gun is bigger than yours
So let's arm the masses
And see what the bastards do then
Walking tall once set us apart
Now we're down on all fours
Do you cry my name in the dark
Like I do yours?
These storms are getting stronger now
Trusses all bend and sway
Lightning hits, the power goes out in the fray
As the waves crash high
And the shoreline disappears
I will scream to the sky
"Hey, people live here!"
My dreams are not unlike yours
They long for the safety
And break like a glass chandelier
But there's laughter and oh there is love
Just past the edge of our fears
And there's chaos when push comes to shove
But it's music to my ears
May you be in heaven before the devil knows you're dead
May these winds be always at your back
'Cause when we're all just ghosts
And the madness overtakes us
We will look at the ashes
And say, "people lived here"
From the penthouse to the holy martyr
Sea to shining sea
From the coffins full of kindergarteners
Is this what you call free?
From the hate that drips from all your crosses
Are your hands so clean?
There's a wildfire and it's spreading far
From sea to shining sea
When we're all just ghosts
And the madness overtakes us
I will scream to the sky
Yeah, I'll scream to the sky
Yeah, I'll scream to the sky
"Hey, people live here!"
😢
Beautifully written. Moving.
Rise against helped me through my darkest days and still does.
as appropriate today as it ever has been
Their music should be played everywhere, all the time. The world would be a better place if we listened to them.
This are the songs that matter and that should be on the radio so that people can learn from them.
Just a masterpiece, just in my heart. Forever.

Wonderful song. I like it even more than Hero of War ❤️
Hey it's January 6th 2021 and man does this song hit different right now.
This is good music. This is the kind of music that deserves recognition from all around.
"my dreams are not unlike yours, they long for the safety and break like a glass chandelier but there's laughter and oh there is love just past the edge of our fears and there's chaos when push comes to shove but it's music to my ears"
Those lines really resonated with me, it was deep
This is real music.. Who cares what others watch and listen to. You should be proud as a Rise Against fan cause you are a special person :)
Fuck all these new artists of today
+Segun Olorunyomi Nicki minaj...
This helped my day
Beautiful song, no just because of the music but for the message too, as someone who was born and still live in a place ruled by corruption I've been hit several times by violence, injustice and poverty I also long to have peace and safety, I long to have a better life.
Heard this live last summer, it was beautiful. This song gets me chocked up every time.
I just woke up to an epic song :^)
+WanWood Sniper Me too :D
+WanWood Sniper Same.
Rise against can pull off any style of song and it's beautiful.
I listen to this song like once a day 😍😍
“From the the hate that drips from all your crosses, are your hands so clean” damn. That hit hard.
Powerful song and music video, like only Rise Against can do.
rise against changed my life at such a young age, they will always be my favorite.
big mood given current events.
Rise against have the best songs to make you cry and make you smile at the same time
LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
I just discovered this band and I can't believe I didn't know about them earlier they're fuckin amazing
The first song that has given me chills down my spine in a long...long...long time...
Well...time to start listening to this again. How often does history need to be repeated?
As many times as needed, my friend. Sometimes I think their lyrics are timeless.
Rise Against has put out so many amazing, powerful, life changing tracks over the years, but this honestly might be their most powerful song ever
Rise Against is one of those bands I can't stop lovin'! This guys rock so fucking hard!
These guys established themselves among the greats 13 years ago I believe. They grow with each song and album they release, it's crazy to see how many people have discovered what a great band they are and will continue to be.
God this is an awesome band
This is my favorite band for a reason if you can't understand the message in each and every song then you need to open your mind to the world around you.
This song means alot more than "renovations"
Been listening to Rise Against for nearly 10 years. This song is genuinely amazing.
damn only over million views? this deserves so much more than that ...........
3 mill now
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard
amazing song like always touching my soul. keep giving Rise Against!
As short as this song is... It brought a smile PLUS a tear in my eye. People ask for a smile and a tear, this song brings it.
I've got chills all over my body
you are not the only one
I can´t even express how true this song has proven to me during my lifetime. Looking all around me, I get very similar feelings and impressions as the composer. May we one day all understand.
Couldn’t find the lyrics so here ya go
My God is better than yours
And the walls of my house are so thick

I will scream to the sky, yeah I'll scream to the sky
Yeah I'll scream to the sky
"Hey, people live here."
This song actually made me cry too, mainly because of some of the lines and how deep they were and also just taking a look around watching the music video and just trying to imagine how hard life must be for the poor people
You know it's a deep song when it has that kind of effect on you
The coffins filled with kindergarteners line gives me chills every time.
I love this song so much. It was instantly my favorite on the whole album. Still play it all the time when I'm alone in the car and need to sing loud to get out of my head
May you be in heaven before the devil knows you're dead
May these winds be always at your back
'Cause when we're all just ghosts
And the madness overtakes us
We will look at the ashes
And say, "people lived here"
……….WOW, just wow! I can’t stop looping this verse :O
Goddamn, Rise Against does t ever pull any punches and always leaves you with a humbling sense of thought and introspection!
It's brilliantly written with nice guitar riffs. Please tell me a new album's on the way
+Davey Ryuzaki Album's on the waaaaaay.
+CoMod Productions nice reference xD
+CoMod Productions they said they said.
+Davey Ryuzaki By new album, do you mean with this song on it? If so, there is already one called "The black market".
+Davey Ryuzaki Yess I hope so :D
The whole album is a masterpiece
Okay, super late comment, but there used to be graffiti in the alley behind my place in Baltimore that said "People Used to Live Here." Still a relevant message.
This needs to be seen by everyone. So much meaning and truth to the lyrics.
Can we please just get a tour sometime soon
AMAZING shots. Tyler W. Davis of Monolith Productions did the videography. Him and his crew are the best at telling a story through their images, adding emphasis to the bands who are lucky enough to say "he shot our video." he also shot a few of Pianos Become The Teeth's videos and they are just as powerful! great band, Rise Against. they picked the PERFECT video guys to visualize their songs stories.
This song was uploaded one day before my birthday :D
This video has done a very good job of being slow and not too full of blunt information, which lets the lyrics of a song with so much meaning bleed through, rather than pushing a specific meaning or scenario.
I am crying.....
This song makes me wanna cry cuz of its strong message just like many of rise againsts songs I love these guys
"oh there is laughter oh the is love past the edge of our fears" When I hear this it inspires me, this song inspires me so much.
still the sadèst rise songs ever ...so much power sadness an family . love u !
Beautiful song and brilliant video. We did a review. Gave it a 9/10 and a 10/10.
+Everything and Anything Show That sounds about right
They played this song at Philly Festival Pier on Saturday. Awesome song, can't stop listening to it, on repeat.
+Danti o It doesnt look like he is taking the car wash from the people.
+Danti o Finally a person that understood the video :D
+Danti o, my first impression on this music video was about gentrification. The music video fits the song perfectly. You hit the nail on the head! Unfortunately, so many people missed the message on this comment thread.
+Danti o He didn't take the squeegee wash from them. You see him going into a regular car wash.
Danti o that's deep.
Yeah. Rise Against nailed it. Again. Pure brilliance and an extremely beautiful and gripping song. Excellent craftmanship that takes a stand. If only more artists were this engaged.
Really relatable given the state of the world now with the recent shootings
This is an incredible way of conveying what is all too often unseen. Thanks so much!
I love rise against, brazil

i just had my youtube on auto play listening to rise against. Came across this song and it speaks to me in so many ways. I have already listened to this song 20+ times since finding it. Rise Against still has it. Great song!
my first time hearing it, maybe ill listen..
Song+Video+Message=Goosebumps
Rise Against is one of my favorite bands since 2006... Anyone knows other bands like Rise Against? I'm talking about rock bands who fight for human and animal rights, and are not stupid rock stars...
dude system of a down...
AFI has members that are active in animal rights groups. They're also my favorite band and if you like Rise Against, give em a listen.
Strike Anywhere. Check out their song I'm Your Opposite Number.
Muse make great music but i don't think they fight for animal rights
Kirk and i fucking loved you guys. We saw you a few times but sadly my brother has passed on and I've found myself listening to so much of your stuff. don't take a second for granted. RIP KIRK STOWELL save my seat in the musicians section
The coffins full of kindergartners......
That's still chilling, even now
Agreed... especially since we have a lot of school shootings
Covid19??
I tear up everytime I hear that line.
I think they were talking about sandy hook
i am wondering if those lines are about republicans, gun control, and Sandy Hook.
