A few things you should note: The shooter is from Hawaii.. out of state.. he flew in.. he did NOT bring the rifle with him - where did he get this SKS that had the serial numbers obliterated? - he could NOT have bought it in ANY store or pawn shop! Also.. there is no way that SKS with 20" barrel could ever fit in the backpack shown as more than half of it would have been sticking out the bag and visible to the public. The shooter was also driving a vehicle with stolen plates.. but the strangest part of this whole thing is.. Trump made the spontaneous decision that day on a whim to go to the Golf Course.. how could the shooter ever have known Trumps location in advance when it was almost a spontaneous decision for him to go there? There are things at play here that are just not adding up.

The weapon was never "used", it was involved. He brought it, but he never fired. He was shot at. That was the gunshot heard. This simply shows that ANY rifle can be used for wrongdoing. There are no "bad guns", although some guns can absolutely do massive amounts of damage. Years ago I was temped to mod my SKS with an aftermarket stock and mags, but realized I was being stupid.

Just a point of clarification: He wasn't trying to make a 300-500 yard shot, he was trying to make a 40-50 yard shot. The difference is that Trump was on one tee-box that was 300-500 yards away, but odds are (ie common sense) is that the shooter was waiting for Trump to come to the NEXT HOLES green, which would have been 40-50 yards from where he was.

I was also saddened when I heard that an SKS had been used. One of my first thoughts was, Why would he choose an SKS, scoped or not, to make a precision shot at that distance? The SKS is a very fine rifle for its original intended purpose, but it was never meant to be a sniper rifle. Luckily for Mr. Trump, this would-be shooter was untrained/misinformed.
As a convicted felon and a non-residènt, his purchase options would be rather limited. Additionally, it doesn't appear that he was very knowledgeable about firearms. Third, it would appear that he was waiting for a closer shot when he was discovered, so he may have had some understanding of the capabilities of the rifle and himself. When I turned 18 my dad gave me an SKS Russian 1953 Tula beautiful cherry wood type stock with a folding bayonet. Mine was lost in my house fire in 2012. I was in law enforcement and I got to my home quicker than you can imagine and I was going for that Sks. It just meant so much to me. Nope got about 30 ft from that door and it was like a blast furnace. But Ty I’ve got a lot of good content to explore and share with a couple guys I work with.

You missed the whole point. Trump was on hole 5- 400 yards away. He was about to come up hole 6- the green of hole six is about 50 yards from the shooter. At 50 yards- the SKS would make a very good choice.

It’s far from the worst option out there. Obviously there are better choices in 2024 - but for being 80 years old, the SKS is shockingly decent. Just maybe not ideal for taking a long range shot at the most famous person on Earth.
No exclusion exists in the 2nd Amendment for magazine capacity. Nor is there one for muzzle devices, rate of fire, caliber, etc. and THAT was by design.
As soon as I heard it was an SKS, and the serial number was obscured, I went to T26 to see if I could find how many places they put serial numbers on an SKS. Of course, the numbers could not be matching, but now I'm curious. All I can remember is the receiver, bolt carrier, top cover, stock, and mag.

You knows SKS rifles are fairly accurate out to 200yrds and even beyond that but 200yrds and in is a pretty easy shot with an SKS. One of two things is happening, or a combination of the two. Either we have divine intervention protecting Trump (not sure if I really believe that one) or (the more likely scenario) these leftists are absolutely terrible at shooting. That’s twice now that the shooters missed. They missed a guy who was unarmed and mostly standing still. When civil war pops off here in the states, it’s definitely comforting to know that the side we’ll be fighting against is incapable of shooting an unarmed man who is mostly standing still at less than 200yrds with modern sporting rifles (yes I know the SKS is old and not modern) This definitely bodes well for us.

I picked up a Yugo SKS which came to me with the Archangel stock setup, with those same 30 round mags. I think that's what the shooter was setup for. I restored the original factory configuration because I got it because it is historical aspects. I also reinstalled the bayonette. I have to replace the gas tube cover with a matched wooden version but I haven't done that yet.
As a retired law enforcement officer it is embarrassing that law enforcement can't tell the difference between basic weapons systems. Anyone with basic knowledge of historical weapons would know that was a modified SKS. I'm disappointed in law enforcement as they chose to mislead the public calling the rifle an AK. The motive could have been ignorance or done to push a narrative. Who knows but disappointing.
I think it's fair to assume that in the end it doesn't matter what type of gun you have, "they" want them all confiscated. I don't care what they say while on stage (like Kamala's comment on being a gun owner). There are some gun-control extremists that are against BB guns or even slingshots. You are right that "assault" rifles get the negative attention, even though they are not really assault weapons in the truest sense.

Gas block and lack of pistol grip was my indicators. Sks has the 45 degree gas block while the only other similar platform is the saiga rifles which have 90 degree gas blocks.

But you are correct it's the only other common? 7.62x39 rifle with that type of barrel gas system ect. I broke out a couple saigas I have and compared them and noticed the gas block was the major give away.

First off, the only scope mount system, I've ever sen for a SKS replaced the top cover. With every shot, the zero changed. The 2 SKS rifles I own are Russian and are all matching numbers, I won't be swapping the top cover for a cover with mount. The ceramic tiles this mouth breather wouldn't do anything to stop a magnum hand gun cartridge, a 9mm or 40 would be deflected. Ballistic armor ceramic plates are compressed under high pressure for high temperature cure. Ceramic floor tiles are built from a slurry (not typically aluminum or zirconium oxide that's dried and then fired.
@@Dread_Pirate_Homesteader Have you attempted drilling a AK or SKS receiver for a side mount? I've done 20 plus on AK's, and if you don't drill on the bore axis, you're not getting the scope zeroed. Just .10" up or down will use up all of the scope adjustment. The reason that top cover mounts are so prevalent is access to the bolt/bolt carrier.
Just want to state depending on the construction quality those tiles absolutely can stop full power rifle calibers although I doubt a .338 the Secret Service likes using would have much of an issue getting through. Edit: Unless they were very over built which it doesn't look like they are. So he had SOME idea of what he was doing.

I don't think the shooter is this case chose his own rifle. The serial number was obliterated. The car he drove had stolen license plates. He showed up at the right time in the right place, at a location that was not on Trump's public calendar, having come from Hawai'i. 🤔 AND he was well known to federal authorities.
I thought I might have been going nuts. The pictures they showed of it leaning on the tree made me think "that looks like an SKS, not a Kalashnikov." Short answer, it’s State by State. Some anti-gun States (like CO) have preserved robust protrctions for all C&R items. Other States (like WA) have removed these protections and specifically banned certain C&R items.

Two things: Never feel bad about enjoying your firearms the way you want to. While I’m not a fan of duckbill SKS magazines generally, the Tapco 20-rounders are probably the best ones out there.
Having been shot at by both the SKS and AK 47 in my youth. The Marines I served with respected both platforms for their reliability in the type of enviroment, but none of us really considered them accurate. The AK was a bullet hose, good in SHTF actions and the SKS was some what accurate at 100 yards, but since we were fighting at 50 yards and under they were all about equal. It's like I have told folks in the last few days, if they were so accurate, why was there never a "Sniper" version of either of them?

I was also saddened when I heard that an SKS had been used. One of my first thoughts was, Why would he choose an SKS, scoped or not, to make a precision shot at that distance? The SKS is a very fine rifle for its original intended purpose, but it was never meant to be a sniper rifle.

As a convicted felon and a non-residènt, his purchase options would be rather limited. Additionally, it doesn't appear that he was very knowledgeable about firearms. Third, it would appear that he was waiting for a closer shot when he was discovered, so he may have had some understanding of the capabilities of the rifle and himself. Thank god the world has someone out here like you! Very impressive channel, I just found it. When I turned 18 my dad gave me an SKS Russian 1953 Tula beautiful cherry wood type stock with a folding bayonet. Mine was lost in my house fire in 2012. I was in law enforcement and I got to my home quicker than you can imagine and I was going for that Sks. It just meant so much to me. Nope got about 30 ft from that door and it was like a blast furnace. But Ty I’ve got a lot of good content to explore and share with a couple guys I work with.

You missed the whole point. Trump was on hole 5- 400 yards away. He was about to come up hole 6- the green of hole six is about 50 yards from the shooter. At 50 yards- the SKS would make a very good choice.

The internal pinned to 5 mag we have in Canada and the long barrel classify it as NR (non restricted) which means ANY gun owner in Canada can use this for hunting, sport and collection without any restrictions. This is why the Liberals hate it

I was one of those morons that believed in the second amendment but didn't own a firearm then covid happened. So I went to the local gun store after they reopened it and it was picked clean. There was absolutely nothing but there it was an SKS 😂 my first rifle. It got me through the dark days in Philadelphia during the riots. I know have an interest in cold war rifles pistols ex.
It’s far from the worst option out there. Obviously there are better choices in 2024 - but for being 80 years old, the SKS is shockingly decent. Just maybe not ideal for taking a long range shot at the most famous person on Earth.

No exclusion exists in the 2nd Amendment for magazine capacity. Nor is there one for muzzle devices, rate of fire, caliber, etc. and THAT was by design.
As soon as I heard it was an SKS, and the serial number was obscured, I went to T26 to see if I could find how many places they put serial numbers on an SKS. Of course, the numbers could not be matching, but now I'm curious. All I can remember is the receiver, bolt carrier, top cover, stock, and mag.

You knows SKS rifles are fairly accurate out to 200yrds and even beyond that but 200yrds and in is a pretty easy shot with an SKS. One of two things is happening, or a combination of the two.
Either we have divine intervention protecting Trump (not sure if I really believe that one) or (the more likely scenario) these leftists are absolutely terrible at shooting. That’s twice now that the shooters missed. They missed a guy who was unarmed and mostly standing still. When civil war pops off here in the states, it’s definitely comforting to know that the side we’ll be fighting against is incapable of shooting an unarmed man who is mostly standing still at less than 200yrds with modern sporting rifles (yes I know the SKS is old and not modern)

I picked up a Yugo SKS which came to me with the Archangel stock setup, with those same 30 round mags. I think that's what the shooter was setup for. I restored the original factory configuration because I got it because it is historical aspects. I also reinstalled the bayonette. I have to replace the gas tube cover with a matched wooden version but I haven't done that yet.
As a retired law enforcement officer it is embarrassing that law enforcement can't tell the difference between basic weapons systems. Anyone with basic knowledge of historical weapons would know that was a modified SKS. I'm disappointed in law enforcement as they chose to mislead the public calling the rifle an AK. The motive could have been ignorance or done to push a narrative. Who knows but disappointing.

I think it's fair to assume that in the end it doesn't matter what type of gun you have, "they" want them all confiscated. I don't care what they say while on stage (like Kamala's comment on being a gun owner). There are some gun-control extremists that are against BB guns or even slingshots. You are right that "assault" rifles get the negative attention, even though they are not really assault weapons in the truest sense.

Gas block and lack of pistol grip was my indicators. Sks has the 45 degree gas block while the only other similar platform is the saiga rifles which have 90 degree gas blocks.
The length of the gas tube/barrel to front sight of sks is longer than a kalash easily giving it away.

But you are correct it's the only other common? 7.62x39 rifle with that type of barrel gas system ect. I broke out a couple saigas I have and compared them and noticed the gas block was the major give away.

First off, the only scope mount system, I've ever sen for a SKS replaced the top cover. With every shot, the zero changed.
The 2 SKS rifles I own are Russian and are all matching numbers, I won't be swapping the top cover for a cover with mount.
The ceramic tiles this mouth breather wouldn't do anything to stop a magnum hand gun cartridge, a 9mm or 40 would be deflected. Ballistic armor ceramic plates are compressed under high pressure for high temperature cure. Ceramic floor tiles are built from a slurry (not typically aluminum or zirconium oxide that's dried and then fired.

Have you attempted drilling a AK or SKS receiver for a side mount?
I've done 20 plus on AK's, and if you don't drill on the bore axis, you're not getting the scope zeroed. Just .10" up or down will use up all of the scope adjustment.
The reason that top cover mounts are so prevalent is access to the bolt/bolt carrier.

Just want to state depending on the construction quality those tiles absolutely can stop full power rifle calibers although I doubt a .338 the Secret Service likes using would have much of an issue getting through. I don't think the shooter is this case chose his own rifle. The serial number was obliterated. The car he drove had stolen license plates. He showed up at the right time in the right place, at a location that was not on Trump's public calendar, having come from Hawai'i. 🤔

I thought it was an SKS! Every picture I saw didn't have the pistol grip of the AK.
I thought I might have been going nuts. The pictures they showed of it leaning on the tree made me think "that looks like an SKS, not a Kalashnikov." I'm just glad the media is calling it an AK47 and referring to it as such in their bullet-point (ha!) graphics. This is what people will remember.

Short answer, it’s State by State. Some anti-gun States (like CO) have preserved robust protrctions for all C&R items. Other States (like WA) have removed these protections and specifically banned certain C&R items.

While I’m not a fan of duckbill SKS magazines generally, the Tapco 20-rounders are probably the best ones out there.
Having been shot at by both the SKS and AK 47 in my youth. The Marines I served with respected both platforms for their reliability in the type of enviroment, but none of us really considered them accurate. The AK was a bullet hose, good in SHTF actions and the SKS was some what accurate at 100 yards, but since we were fighting at 50 yards and under they were all about equal. It's like I have told folks in the last few days, if they were so accurate, why was there never a "Sniper" version of either of them?
