    Great video! Only advice I would make is push the caliper back while the old pad is still on the caliper (three prong) makes for more even pressure and no damage of caliper or new pads. Also those rotors are well worn down even though the wear has been even.

    Thanks.... just bought a Mercedes despite many people warning of repair costs. As an ex-air force tech, I reckoned that it couldn't be harder to fix than an F-18 (yes the Australian air force flies them... not navy). So thanks for helping me prove the nay sayers wrong and also giving me the satisfaction of fixing my own car.

      I haven't had many problems with Mercedes. The problems are that do occur are usually small and inexpensive if fixed on your own (take it to Mercedes and that is another story). Regular maintenance is usually easy to do, once you are familiar with the design quirks. Maintenance can be a little more expensive, but most models have a lower rate of catastrophic failure than the vast majority of other brands and they can last longer than most vehicles if well taken care of.

    I had the same warning on the dashboard, just because I temporarily disconnected the near side rear sensor.
    It failed the MOT because of the message.
    I changed both of the rear sensors and the message remained.
    To clear it from the screen, I had to disconnect the battery, and reconnect it, and lo and behold, it had gone.
    If I had known, I could have done that before the MOT and it would have passed...!!

    Watching your video was nice gave me a few pointers on how to install my sensors on my CLS . BUT I do have some concerns I've done my own mechanics for a while now, I'm a little worried you didn't clean anything or copper grease anything. The brake pad runners need to be cleaned of all brake dust /road grime otherwise the pads could get stuck on the caliper carriers causing premature pad wear . The bolts you undone need to be cleaned and copper greased so the caliper itself will slide back and forth to release the pad off the disc.
    hope you don't mind the comments
    regards Harry

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Harry - good pointers that you have made. I find that adding all of that grease leads to a few issues; It attracts additional dust like a magnet that doesn't wash out of the grease; If you live in an area that salts and sands the roads in the winter time is also an additional problem. These parts on the Mercedes tend not to rust (aluminum/ anodized steel)
      If you do add that grease do it sparingly. I appreciate the feedback.

    Thank you for the knowledge. You are improving society, by sharing it.
    In trying to pick your Brain I ask.
    2011 B200t, I just picked up a used one. It has aprox. 17000 KM's on it.
    When I am coasting to a stop, the Brakes engage, but it feels only partially. However if I release and press down fast on the peddle, the Braking action is positive and I get a good hard feeling on the Peddle, which stops the car immediately.
    Any idea as to what causes this? The Car was just certified and two mechanic's say the Pads are good, with lots of life left. Also there are no fluid leaks on the floor.
    Thanks in advance.

    I just replaced my brake pad sensor and the brake wear indicator on the dash went away automatically. My mistake was that I reused the old sensor because it visually looked ok, but from what I learn you got to change the sensor when it has been tripped by low pad thickness and has generated brake wear indicator.

Even when I had questions you replied. Thank you for that. I have the same model ML350 (mine is 2008) that you are working on in this video. Even before my battery problem I was having a problem with the drivers side front brake grabbing without me pressing the pedal. I think it’s only that one grabbing. I got under there to check my pads and realized that the whole line that the brake pad wear sensor and the line it plugs into is completely missing. Do you think this could be the cause of why that brake is grabbing? I’d appreciate any help. Thanks again for your channel. I’m definitely a fan.

    Hello there. I got my brake disc pads replaced and now need to buy two ABS sensors. The image that is on the dashboard came on since i got them replaced although the mechanic told me the brakes were good. Do i need to order new brakes or when i replace the ABS sensors will this image disappear? I have a 2006 Mercedes Benz B200 hatchback. I was also told i need to replace or rotate the front tires. Help please.

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmmm.... the light coming on after the brakes indicates that one or more brake pads is now worn past the acceptable thickness. Sensors are in the front and back of the vehicle. You should have him recheck the brakes pads. Sometimes brake pads wear unevenly so each brake pad (inside/out) must be checked. Change them in sets, meaning rear set, front set. Do not just change one side or one wheel.

    Thanks for this @iRepair Autos. Have few questions!
    1. What is average life of these brake pads?
    2. Is there a way to estimate effect of brake pad wear on braking distance ? (Graph of Brake pad thickness vs. Braking distance)
    3. can u kindly share Manual or data sheet of that brake pad wear sensor!
    Thank you!

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The brake pad life is directly proportional to your driving habits. If you change the brake pads before the brake wear sensor is tripped then you never have to change the sensors. Once a sensor is tripped, you have to replace that sensor.

    • @brahman2539
      @brahman2539 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      iRepair Autos cool! Any idea how its related to braking distance?

    • @iRepairAutos
      @iRepairAutos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brake sensor has nothing to do with the baking distance. The braking distance is more proportional to road conditions, tires, and vehicle load.
