He has always been a soul singer in my view. The way he can sing clean backing vocals(as he does in this song and many others) and then hit the loud pedal with vocal distortion with vibrato is incredible. Chisel were an amazingly talented band with 2 exceptionally talented lead singers. One of ‘em could play guitar a little bit too… 🤣
Mate, I'm very lucky. Being a kid of the 80s and living in a country town. Got to see Cold Chisel, The Divinyls, Angels, Rose Tattoo, Australian crawl, all live and in my parents local pub. Everyone knew everyone. I was 5, 6, 7 up to 10yo pouring beers for those bands. It was a sure point for my friends as, my brother and I were the only kids in the whole town allowed to do it.
They’re an amazing combination! You can hear Barnesy going from clean backing vocals while Mossy’s leading, then comes the powerful distortion, and then back to clean backing vocals. Both amazingly talented performers! Well, the whole band was!
Ian Moss was born in Alice Springs as was I - he's about 5 years older. I have had two direct connections with the band and/or Ian. First at the Alice Springs Memorial Club around 1983 when the band played a gig and bought the house down. This could only have happened because Ian, being a local, was prepared to pressure the band to give Alice a freebie (I have no idea what the band's arrangement with the Memorial Club was). I understood the band used to use Alice as their get-a-way and was therefore in-situ anyway. The second time was when my cousin, who went to school with Ian, rang Ian's number that was saved to his mobile. Ian picked up at an airport somewhere and, remembering my cousin (Sambo), was quite happy to chat (on speaker phone) about what he was up to. It turned out he was off to a (solo) concert somewhere. Looking back, I remember thinking I could not imagine an American person who had achieved fame taking a call, let a lone being genuinely interested, from an old school friend. Wow - Cold Chisel, Ian Moss (solo) and Australia rockkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@nickvegas2459 yeah it’s his dons Daughter. If you listen closely on some of there latest gigs you will hear IAN SINGING Danielle Danielle Danielle. And I think I herd him or someone on the radio about it years ago. I can’t go a day without playing this song. And wild thing
Anyone who says Barnes can only scream needs to listen to the way he delivers that final line. A mini masterclass in torch singing.
100%

my one and only chisel song I love the damn guts out of. I'm of the solo Barnsley Ain't no second prize fan base
The greatest song ever written
Like all the greats, it is simple, honest and based on a true story.
Its alway been and forever will be a great song 😊
Barnesy's power is not human, and the harmonies between Barnesy and Mossy are next level.

@@sammy_dog To think it started life as Danielle, and was on the Tex,Don and Charlie Album As that
@@Moparmutt1976 yes Don wrote this song about his daughter Danielle but it didnt sound right so it was changed to Janelle
@@sammy_dog At Jimmy's "suggesting"if I recall. Don was pretty much just get T.C. done and get away from Chisel at that point
