The reason the zoom pauses is because you have it on "digital" zoom. On digital zoom the lens goes from motorized optical zoom to digitized zoom. Turn off the digitized zoom feature and the zoom will stop at 100mm.

I already have the Canon M50, I use it for main channel videos. I am looking at buying the Canon G7X Mark II mainly for vlogging as I will be taking it to America + Thailand with me so definitely looking for something lightweight and easy to whip on my bag. What do you think?

Great review! Do you have a kind of clicking noise when the auto focus gets working? On my g7x mark ii, I can clearly hear the sound when I play the videos on my computer. It's not something that I can hear directly on the camera, but when I watch the video, there's clearly a clicking noise... I'm wondering if it's just mine or if all the G7X have this clicking noise. Do you have it on yours?
I just got this camera and have the same problem! The clicking/grinding from the autofocus is extremely loud during playback. I know many vloggers who use this camera and I have never heard it on their videos, so I'm not sure if I'm missing a setting somewhere or if they're removing it in post-production, but I am very frustrated with it! Please let me know if you've found a solution!
I haven't unfortunately. I actually returned the camera, got another g7x mii, and it has the same issue, so I returned it too. It seems that some serial numbers have this clicking noise issue, while others don't. I agree that it's frustrating!

I wonder if its bcos of the memory card? Im using an SDHC one. Is yours SDXC? Do you know if theres a difference? Or what setting to do you use when recording a video? I hope you can help me.

I have been using G series cameras since the G2, love them. Could you post a vid of you standing still and shooting. away from yourself, not on yourself. And move the camera side to side, first very slow then progressivly faster as you pan. What ilm looking for is how much blurr you experience with side to side motion. Thanks James Cleveland.

From a photography perspective it does seem a good point and shoot camera. This video shows how well responsive it is no doubt if on automatic. I'm guessing it has all the ISO, aperture and shutter speed controls, I'm used to using my DSLR camera's. Nonetheless good review.
Did you use the built in audio mic for this or an external one to a recorder then matched it up? As other reviews I've watched the mark II seems to make a weird noise?
+chrisny carol I think the first clip was 50 but then the others are 60. in all my other vlogs I use 60 for slow motion :) it always looks pretty great!
The pause is when you reach the end of the optical zoom, and then it switches to digital zoom, which is why it appears grainy. I personally like to stay with optical zoom only to ensure quality. Great review.

Not that I'm a sexist or anything but there have been too few of them posted on the internet and the ones that have shown up are more like advertisements or beauty parades. Your review here is the exception. An excellent real world camera review without bothering with the geeky tech stuff. Hi, I have a canon G7x mark ii I got to SCN mode and select Self portrait mode. I click on the smooth skin effect and adjust it to my liking. Taking a photo is fine and has the effect. I then press the record button but it doesn't apply the effect.
