One of the best reviews on this camera ive seen love all the different clips of videos to showcase how it performs in sop many different settings definitely sold me on it tired of carrying around the big DSLR all the time so wanted something smaller but without giving up all the quality

UPDATE: Two years later - I still love this camera. Unfortunately, my original G7xii fell apart, I ended up losing BOTH the little screws so the screen was very floppy, and after about 18months of HEAVY use, the camera got quite slow. BUT. I would purchase it AGAIN in a heartbeat. The price - size - quality - can not be beat to this day. AND I hear rumours about the Mark III coming out next year???
Hey Guys Its Michaela The rumours aren’t true. My Dad works at a Canon store and he told me that it’s not true, it would still take them more years if i’m not mistaken.

ImKeZi If you mostly gonna vlog outside I think it's better to get something with a mic input! I love my g7x mark II but yeah the noise that it picks up is a turn off during editing :/

I just got the G7X because, like you, I don't always want to run around with a huge DSLR with a mic and all that. But it is a GREAT little camera and I love that it's awesome in low-light situations. Also: It's finally nice to see another vlogger who's not afraid to curse in their videos! 🤣🤣

can you share what settings you had it on for the talking portion of this video? It's so clear and the white balance looks great! do you turn on a skin filter of any kind? The skin looks so smooth and flawless
hi micaela, i like the way you review and spill the pros and cons of this cam ,im planning to have one to have footage like yours, im new in vlogging and has one vlog at the moment and im just using my iphone7+ to film it.
on a technical part in the editing portion, what type of codec are you using upon publishing your videos, i find it different from my origini footage once it reaches youtube, my currernt setting is Apple Pro Res 422 (1920x1080) 60 fps, I would like to know whats yours.

Great review! It looks like you have put this camera to the test. If I put a screen protector on the screen and a small "dead cat" on the mic I feel I can fix the issues you mention. My question is: If this camera is in my pocket will the lens be protected well enough? I can be rough on things. Thanks for the great video.
+Land to House I think it will survive in your pocket! when the camera is off the lens is covered by slits of plastic so it should be okay :)

What settings do you film with? My brother and I just got this camera and our autofocus was all over the place, even when we tapped the screen it wouldn't focus on certain things. We usually film food so we need to be able to quickly change the focus. Thank you in advance!

I have the same camera and use it primarily as a travel camera for stills. I'm pretty happy with it, all things considered.
Thank you. I have a Canon 70d and I bought the gorillapod to do the outdoor vlogging thing but it's way too big. Also, it's really obvious you're recording a video which isn't always good. I think this will be a great companion for a proper DSLR.

It could be great if only it had an input for an external mic.
The sound is as important as the image or even more.

Thanks for sharing these valuable reviews. I intend to purchase Canon G7X Mark II in the near future. However, several you-tubers have mentioned that tiny dirt may get into the interior part of the lens and they cannot be removed. Have you found or known this problem yet? They indicated that using a so called ‘mag-filter CPL protective lens’ may solve the problem. Would it be a possible and effective solution? Would you mind suggesting other simpler and cheaper methods to fix the problem? Thank you for your attention.

Hi Michaela, can I check if it is possible to set the G7X Mark II such that the manual focus settings are controlled by the zoom ring? Meaning if I turn the zoom ring clockwise/anti-clockwise, then the depth of field changes accordingly. At the moment, it seems that I can only change the manual focus by pressing the up or down button.

great review thank you so much! sucks about the mic. as i plan on vlogging my adventures driving semi and travelling the US a good mic is an absolute must for me seeing as it has to be able to drown out the road noise and noise of my truck engine and pick me up/
This was super useful. I only just started on TH-cam and I'm looking for a good camera to take traveling with me. After watching this I think I'm gonna go with the Mark II but get the wind muffs etc with it :)

Hello. I got my G7x mark ii and have some problems with the focus too. Every time I took a selfie with a couple of friends and I was the one who carried the cam, It only clearly focused my face and seemed to be a little bit blurred of the rest. I don't know if that happens only to me or everybody else. I tried to search in the setting for this problem but nothing helped.
Rycote Micro Windjammers should take care of wind sounds. It seems like you have to cut them a little bit to fit, but they should work based on reviews.
you can put like a hairy thing in the cam and it makes.the audio great so it wont pick up wind noise
I know you probably won't see this comment, but I DESPERATELY need your help! 😭 I recently got this camera and I love it to bits, the ONLY problem I'm facing right now is exporting. For whatever reason I can't fathom, every time I export a video recorded on this camera, it always comes out somewhat pixelated than what the video actually looks like. Can you please tell me what export settings you use, if you use Premiere Pro or Davinci Resolve? The footage recorded was at 1920x1080 59.94fps, and I think I've tried every export imaginable with no luck. And when I DO get it to look great without the pixels, TH-cam makes it look WAY worse!! Thank you in advance. 😭
i got mine few days ago and im still playing with it, ur right about the mic, and im planning to stick a teddy bear ear around the mic to lessen the air sounds.
I am trying to find a good travel vlogging camera. Went to Paris a month ago and lugged around a Canon T6i (that hurt my back even in a backpack with nothing else in it!). Tried a GoPro, but the battery life is short and I am always unsure of what I have captured until well after the day is over. I like your suggestion of getting the Mark I, but they are in really short supply. I may try eBay. Thanks for sharing your camera wisdom! :)
Hello, I hope you or someone could help me. I have the same camera. Every time I film something, my videos have a wear sound (crack crack) is the sound of the lens continue focusing, and I don't now what to do. I can hear my voice but also de lens and it's annoying. I watch the video but I´m not sure if your camera do the same. I want to use it for vlogging and I don't want to use an external mic. Do you know what I have to do to remove that sound?? Or using final cut pro or iMovie.

I use this guy to Film my Baby boys Life since a year now. Love the camera, but waiting for the Mark iii. Suggestions: F1.4-F2.8, nicer mic, better battery Life, dual Pixel af, Zebra Peaks, maybe a hotshoe, external mic input... Would be a blind buy for me 😎👍
In terms of audio quality and vlogging outdoors, which is better, the G7X or G7X Mark II?
Great video some advise re the audio mic issue put some fluffy fabric over the mics ( casey neistet and roman atwood do it with theirs ) and it helps with the wind noise and background noise a lot. Give it a go it works a treat
michaela, your beautiful vlog and shots inspired me to buy also the canon g7x mark II... may I ask which picture style you prefer? Or do you create your own one?

If you hear a lot of wind noise you can use a micro muff or maybe you can find some mic with a android plug

Thanks a lot for your review. I was wondering why didn't talk about the noise of autofocusing. It's noticeable and sometime pretty irritated right? Or you haven't got that problem at all?
Did you film this video on the camera!? What setting did you use? just auto? New subbie
Just want to add something that I think would make it easier for your shoot: A handgrip or one of those ubiquitous table top mini tripods that you can mount your camera on and shoot while you're holding it instead of the camera itself. Easier, surer (no fumbling around trying to stay away from the mic ports and such) and adds very little to the overall weight. There's not much you can do about the audio quality, though. Most cameras do poorly with the built-in mics unless you are like me who shoots mainly with small Sony cameras or camcorders. These have either a mic jack or an active shoe on top that I can plug one of their tiny proprietary mics into to get better sound. That's it. Happy vlogging!

Companies seem to be doing really bad with screws lately. My MacBook is missing a screw, which is just great.
How about the microphone that you used in this video?
4:49 Notice how clear the finger became right after tapping on the display? The focus was on that finger when it was less than 5 cm away. Beyond that distance, things would be out of focus. Maybe, try not to block the camera when tapping on the screen.
