Fixed mine yesterday evening in just a few minutes, all thanks to your video and at a fraction of the official maintenance cost; it was also much more satisfying. Thank you very much!
So, I don't trust myself in trying to fix my own Switch, so I'll deal with it broken for now. rofl But thank you for the tips! I dropped mine whilst playing LOZ: BOTW running on zero sleep. I fell asleep for a second, let my hand that was holding my Switch rest, and then the next moment, I wake up from the noise. R.I.P L-Button.
2:47 I believe thats for the minus button. i removed the L button ribbon the on my joycon the other day and noticed the L button wasn't working either. if you look at the placement of it, its definitely minus
Thanks so much, this was a great guide and my L-button is fixed. Just a note for the uninitiated, to get the ribbon out of the connector, you need to flick the darker grey bit on the top, then it just comes straight out. Same in reverse, put the ribbon into the connector, flip the dark grey bit to secure it in place. I used an ice cube tray to keep my screws in order and the grid pattern of the tray helped make sure the right ones went back into the right place.
I bought the part and it came in today, and it works GREAT! Thanks for linking it in the desc, FUCK NINTENDO AND THEIR WARRANTY THIS TOOK 5 MINUTES TO FIX! I FIX MY OWN SHIT!
i had a similar issue when my L button switch fell off the pcb, i tried soldering it back together and while it holds, and the switch does recognize input, it also triggers the button on its own which is another issue in it's own right. do you know what the cause for the mis triggering could be? and do you thing this method of replacing the entire part will solve my issue entirely?
I would replace the entire part. Its reasonably cheap and easy to replace. The intermittent issue is probably cause by misplacement on your soldering. The tolerances between the switch and the trigger are presise.
This video was great and helped show me that I won't try to fix my joycon lol. I was hoping it would be a small fix but If I need to order a new part and fully take my joycon apart then I think I'm better off getting a new one (or playing games that don't need that button, which is what I've been doing, lol)
I dropped my switch the other night and now L button won’t work but I still hear the clicking sound. I might open to see how it looks before deciding on fixing it myself. A new set cost anywhere from $50-$80. Is it hard reattaching the ribbon if I have to order a nee part ?
Thank you so much for the video and the links, fixed my girlfriend's tears of the kingdom joycon, which would have been replaced with a standard system. What good is a 2 year warranty on a limited edition system lol?
I dropped mine today and now L button isn’t working at all and I dropped it hard flat on the concrete. The screen didn’t break but the L breaks I don’t get it. If it landed screen first the L shouldn’t even be affected. Joycons are so expensive too. Guess I’m gonna have to open it up and see. Idk why the solder would break so east. Ps and Xbox controllers can get thrown 100 times and still always work
I have a nintendo switch lite. The left trigger buttons stopped working after it was dropped. I opened the device and the peice from the cable is broken. Does anyone know how replace it and what the part number is? It is the left side.
Thank you so much for this guide!
Managed to actually repair my joycon even without much experience with repairing electronics.
Ok
YAY! Thanks for this video! The operation was a complete success, and I think I'm ready to move on to open heart surgery!
Thank you for such an easy to follow guide! Made my son super happy after we fixed it together. 👍👌

Thanks man, looks pretty simple. Might be able to save some cash going this route instead!

I'm about to try to solder the button back on. Wish me luck!
I’d say “good luck” but it says “posted 2 months ago.”
@@analuisapamiofeliciano1343 yeah... it didn’t go well. Ended up just ordering a new ribbon. It’s too small for my shaky hands.
@@lukecovey8406 R.I.P Button.
Solder on. Your loss is my loss.
Great video! Gave me the confidence to do it and it works great.
Thank you so much for this guide!

I did the same thing with my switch lol. Thanks for the much needed help!!

Where did you buy replacement part
Have no experience fixing things lol, Awesome video. Thank you so much!
Thanks man, you helped me a lot
And thank you for making this for everyone 🌈
Great easy guide to follow! The only thing I would change is be a bit more clear in how to adjust the replacement when it is oriented incorrectly.

You can also remap that button to another under settings!
@@biggestbaddestmucus5257 that's what I've been doing whenever I can lol
Great guide! Thanks so much man!
could you just sauder the button back on?
Can i use the same part for the R button replacement? I cant find no info nowhere
The r button has to be soldered back into place
how about the r button? i cant find a replacement part for that online
Should be basically the same steps.
The r button has to be soldered back into place
What's the Lil part called?
Thank you so much I was able to fix my girlfriend's controller thanks to you
is the part for the right shoulder button the same? the listing you linked has l, zl, and zr but no just "r"
How do you do this on. A switch lite and not take it apart?
does this work for the right Joy con as well??

Does this also work for the switch lite?
my L-button is just stuck, last I used it, it worked fine but it wouldn't lift up, even if I tried to lift it.
How do I fix that?

What would I do if the cable that connects the ZL just comes out of the connector...? I can't get it back in because it's extremely short.
It must not be routed the correct way. Take apart your other one and carefully look at how it goes. It shouldn't be too short.
Update video for how it feels and how long it lasted please
My nintendo dropped of my couch 3 times then I figured out it broke, thank you for this video now I need to go buy the part ☠️
Did it work?
Can you fix mine please?
I fixed L button, but didn't unplug battery like you did. Now it doesn't charge. Maybe i short circuited it.

bro my right bumper fell out what do i do😭
What about the R button?
Does a L ribbon cable work for replacing the R button too? I can’t seem to find a R button ribbon cable replacement.
@@DanJVennard no, i looked at inside and it is different set ups
Tks 🇧🇷

hope this can fix it, i dropped my joycon accidentally and it landed on the L-Button which broke it xD
thanks for the video, but you really could have shortened this up and made it more concise
Thank i dont need a new joycon
oh my god this looks so complicated
Time to whip out that wallet pal
Look at this this way: if you're going to buy a new one anyway, you can try to fix the broken one first.
😭😭 noooo
Plese remove the battery when working on anything with batteries. You don't want to cause a short and more problems for yourself!
My l button is broken because I bite it when I was little and playing games
I'm not doing all this shit are you crazy?
+ I am not allowed to do that but my dad is rich🤑🤑🤑
