Thanks for making this, great instructions. It was hard to find a video specifically for this problem. My L button works fine but minus is unresponsive, tried taking out and plugging back in the ribbon cable but the issue persisted, so it looks like I'll have to replace the whole part. Definitely going to refer back to this video once I get it
Do you have any ideas why when I have installed my new cable both my minus and L buttons are showing as minus on the switch even when the l button is pressed?
On the Switch Lite the minus button is part of the left side board. This means you may need to replace the entire left side board. See the eBay link below. ebay.us/gU3ZHB
The plus (+) button on the right joy-con is actually part of the main circuit board. If it is not working I suggest taking the joy-con apart and cleaning the button pad and rubber membrane with 99% Isopropyl alcohol. If that does not work you may need to replace the entire main circuit board of the joy-con.
The tab/flap on the connector broke off where the ribbon is held, for the left button. The button doesn’t work anymore, is there anything I can do to fix it? I can’t find the piece as it flew…😅
I do not have any videos on this repair, but highly recommend @TronicsFix. They have some great videos on Joy-Con repair. I believe the part you are looking for is "joy-con ribbon cable latch".
I replaced that part to fix my L button but then i had the same problem. It’s not a problem with the ribbon cable part because you can press that button and it responds, but it’s difficult to press with the actual minus button.

Good luck! If you have any questions let me know.
I have the same L pink joycon with the same exact problem (unresponsive L and minus), and seeing this solution is great, but not for me. Thanks

Either the cable is bad or pressing L is pushing down on the minus part of the cable.
@@CO3Productions thank you for a fast reply I thought it might be a dodgy cable so il probably try another new one first
I'm looking for the equivalent part for the switch lite. I read that this one isn't compatible. Where can I find one?

What are the plus and minus buttons for on a switch?
Think of them as start and select
Hello my plus button does not work do you know how to fix this problem?

The minus button seems to have a notch. Does it matter which side it goes? It doesn't look like the notch lines up with anything.
I believe the notch on the plastic button is to ensure it can only go into the shell one way.

Oh no! You have to replace that connector. No easy task. If the solder pads are torn off it may be a lost cause.
@@CO3Productions Do you have a video showing how to do this? Where can I get the part from, is there a specific name for it?

@@CO3Productions Ok, thank you, you’ve been very helpful! 😊
ummm I searched everywhere because my minus button is literally impossible to press. Anyway to fix it???
Did you solve
Replacing the minus button as shown in this video is your best option.
I replaced that part to fix my L button but then i had the same problem. It’s not a problem with the ribbon cable part because you can press that button and it responds, but it’s difficult to press with the actual minus button.
If the minus button is hard to press it may be the rubber membrane out of place. You can also try loosening the shell screws.
