Switch Controller broken L Button Diagnose and Repair. Can I fix it?

Thank you! My son's R button wasn't working on his switch. When I took it apart (with the help of your video) I noticed it started clicking again. Put it back together and it works like new. THANK YOU again!

This is probably what is happening to my left joycon, and I'm pretty sure I haven't hit it or dropped it.
Nintendo did a really bad job with these controllers QA.
Exactly the same thing just happened to me. Yesterday it was working, and today it no longer does. Hope this works and I don't have to buy a new one

It's amazing how cheap they are.
I noticed my left controller's l button get loose and it bothered me so I decided to switch it with the spare joycon I don't use as often. I couldn't find any other people opening up the left controller nor did I find any guides so this was very helpful. Thank you!

Replacement assembly I purchased included a switch too tall in the Y dimension. Struggled for a half hour trying to figure out why the enclosure wasn’t fitting correctly and allowing the button to work. Ultimately figured out the manufacturer fucked up. Honestly for the time and hassle definitely should have just bought a replacement from Nintendo.

Great video. It's an easy repair (not fast) but if you follow the steps, everything is ok. The only step i skipped was disconnect the bsttery, with My tools was not easy, but the result IS the same
does the battery need to be taken out because we need to avoid some technical difficulties?
For the most part its disconnected to stop it from trying to connect and pair whilst disassembled.

I have a broken L and the L controller just yeeted off
I do not have any 3-star/cross screedriver-stift, that small, in my tool box as on the backside of the JCons.
My first right usual grey/black was thrown to the floor. It got opened by it self. So I bought an Xpensive new "Right JCon ala Neon" (so sick of these colored plastics - Just paint 'em yourself...)... That one i could fix with the right head/stift.
*Now MY MAIN PROBLEM THE LEFT L-BUTTON REACTS TO EASY...
My L-button reacts half an inch away🤯
So my thoughts are its stuck inside and the laser (LiFi tech is most likely reading through a transparent button or via Sonar waves et cetera.
Yet I sense that there isn't very much hi tech but rather stuck. Or it has an angle wrong in the attachable slider so the light reacts ouside its notmal range???
*But after having seen this video I get more of how it functions.
Anyway I'm STILL WANT and SEARCH FOR SPECIFIC PIECE OF ADVICE!!!?!!!

Well you can try told micro solder the contacts on but the easiest option is to replace the part. Link in the description. 😁👍

I had to trim the plastic knub on the lever to make it work. It's amazing how cheaply these things are built.
This happened to me today when my switch fell on the floor when I was moving the dock, I'm going to see if I could fix it tomorrow and I hope it works
You actually just need to stick something down there and pull a bit and it works no need to take the back cover off or anything this issue happens a bit

My R trigger only work 10% of the time, so I was following this video then I decided to do one last thing while I getting my tools to open the joy on.
I lightly smack the joycon on my hand, not even that hard just a slight slap across the palm of my hand and now it works
Sam's, that happened to me, but now it just doesn't work. I've realized that if you don't use the controllers a lot, like in some weeks, they stop working and that's where the problem arises.

I bought BRAND NEW joycons and I played it for a few hours and mind you I am very sensitive about my consoles so I don't be rough with them , anyways I tried to play again a week later and now magically the L button won't work, it clicks but doesn't register

If your button is broken then the controller is too. You wouldn't be losing much. As for the right tools, about £10 on ebay will see you right. If you never try..... You'll never know. 👍

It can be daunting but take one step at a time
The boards can look tough but simplify it. Break it down.
The board that is broken in this video has one connection, ribbon cable. If you are fixing this particular joycon. Take one step at a time.

Absolutely. New controllers can be 50 to 60 pound. The replacement part is 3 pound. Its up to you. 👍
