Hey everyone! I know this method has been around for a while! When I refer to “experimental phase” I’m referring to the multiple “face contour pen” brands that are popping up suddenly AND how tiktok think everything is new… but we know this 👍🏼🖤
"Tantouring" has been around for decades. I love how tiktok thinks they've created something new 😂
Literally 😂
I wonder why now with all the daily skincare like oiling, exfoliating, slugging, tretinoin-ing and what else - why would face tanning still be a thing?🤔 On the very first evening routine it would get patchy or come off at all…
It's so funny.😆 I see a lot of stuff we did because we HAD to be resourceful, cosmetics were so limited when I was young. We didn't do it because it was the ideal way 😅 it's like using hairspray to set makeup... It works but nobody thought it was great.
Right?! Its been around for ever, so many young people think they're "inventing" things. I always laugh because it's always very entitled to think because they rename something that's been around for eons that they think they've created it 😂
@@Luna-Joy.we never think we “invented” it we are just creating trends/ what is popular right now and we name it so people know what we are talking about since how do you explain a “what’s popular right now”? Without naming it since naming it is easier for you to find videos on it/ talking about it. you millennials also name it like the Y2K etc but most of the things that was done before was not really named/ document on it on the internet/ videos on it so that’s why we “discover techniques” that we did not really see before on the internet/ social media before even tho it may had existed before and trends comes and go isn’t that just like fashion? It recycles just like Y2K is somewhat coming back and then after a few months, a new trend comes it recycles. We name it not because we “invented it” but it is just easier to know what the person is talking about online it really is not that deep
Why do I feel like this "technique" belongs in a Welsh Twins video...🙊😆
So true!!!!
That's what I thought it was for a minute with the two Roberts in the thumbnail!! 😅
@@whelkpeopleofdoomthey're different people you know!! 😂
@@Abby_Liu are you sure they're NOT the same person? 😆
Twenty minutes of Robert cringing away from an overzealous James, with savage editing from Marcus.
Tbh, it seemed like the sponge was picking up all the product.
Yeah I think a brush would be better. But I wonder if they don't recommend using a brush because then it will be streaky? Hmmm
Totally this!! Maybe try your regular self tanner instead, like you said.
I thought that too, maybe the sponge that he bought is made differently? But I doubt it would have made much difference.
@@NonaPaskemin maybe a very dense brush and the same bouncing motion? or a much smaller sponge
I do this with regular tanner and a blush brush and it works out amazing.
Robert starting off with 'sounds like a good idea, right?' and me answering 'no' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"This needs to look good because I have things to do and places to go"
**Me panicking to myself after I've made a spontaneous decision to go bold halfway through my makeup look**
What. The. Actual. Eff. 🤣 I’d like to personally thank TikTok for providing me with more comedic relief than Netflix 🤣
This comment is so true😂
For sure, but I can't handle browsing the actual app... I need a curated selection & commentary that makes me feel sane 🥲 People like Robert are to thank for slogging through that mess (or everyone who tags him so he doesn't have to ✌🏻)
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“I want MORE! …am I gettin greedy🥺” hahaha too good
Me through life
Not gunna lie it does sound a decent idea on paper
FR. It' s *EXACTLY* how a make up bronzing product is often applied and everybody finds it logic🤷🏻♀️. The double criteria blows my mind🤯
🧛🏻♀️🖤
It actually really works nicely! I dont think he was using the right product. A regular tanning product would have done what he was expecting it to do 😂 its just trial an error tbh 😮💨
I do it before a beach day ☺️
My husband worked on The San Tropez spray tanning booth 22 years ago..as well as other tanning solution brands. I'm very familiar with the lovely digestive biscuit smell!! Husband used to teach airbrush tanning and sculpting was a thing even then. The beauty salons would sculpt the whole body and the face. Depending on the skill of the beautician and/or the quality of the product /colour of the tanning solution, depended on the result. I've seen some SHOCKERS!!! 😧😧😧 xxxx
One of my best friends does this currently. She says boobs and abs are the most requested
Now I want McVitie's and a cuppa
Also, we all know the stars use that to create more unrealistic standards
😂 the second TikTok, the girl just tanned her entire face.
Love your videos Robert and you and your brother together is GOLD.
I was so confused. 😂😂😂
I know it’s probably due to advertising laws in the UK but I still want to say that I appreciate the huge “AD” text. Transparency is nice
core memory unlocked lmao I was a gyaru back in the late 00s and I used to use the Rimmel wash off tan for contouring because back then it was so hard to find any shading powders that weren't just shiny bronzers (we wanted MATTE!) I used to do it alongside my foundation and then blend it all together, wasn't an unusual technique and the result was pretty nice! Saved us from horribly warm shading powders at least lmao
“What are you doing?…aacchh!…calm down…you’re ok…” I’ve decided Robert Welsh is my inner voice.
I thought it was just me! I keep Robert, James, Johnny and Kevin running a commentary on everything 😁
@@dawntigga they’re saying all the things we’re secretly thinking. 😂
I hope you’re doing this with your Illusion Bronze 🤣
Poor Matthew would be in even more debt 💀
Savage 😅
I’m a light brown girl and I do this for about 10 years from time to time and I don‘t wear any foundation, only a bit of concealer and sometimes mascara/brows/lips. My skin is not the most even but I feel fresh and confident with a bit of tan. For me it‘s the perfect way to enhance my facial features.
my advice: use a cold/neutral/olive tan like you would choose a countour color and not like the thumbnails orange on the cheek thing
Pleaseeeeee tell us what brand/shade!!! Enlighten us oh great one!
@@LosAngelesLaura haha I hope that wasn't sarcastic, I always use a very basic one: ST.MORITZ dark mousse (ST.TROPEZ dupe) it's very dark, but cool toned and buildable. I would recommend to repeat the application 2-3 nights instead of risking it to get too dark :)
@@LosAngelesLaura haha I hope you didn't mean it in a sarcastic way. I use the St.Tropez dupe "ST. MORITZ" dark mousse. It#s a cool olive tone. I recommend leaving it on for a few hours 2-3 times instead of going to sleep with one application - can turn out very dark for lighter skin tones :)

with a runner up of "calm down, what are you doing? why are you doing this?" lmao luvurobert!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would have loved to see the look on James's face when you talked about your skincare routine 😂
Coincidentally, I saw a girl on Tiktok do this with a regular self tanner and a stippling brush today. It looked INSANE and dark when she did it, but the result the next day was amazing. I bookmarked it to try it out myself! I died when I saw you did this video today. I think you should definitely try it with regular tanner! If I can find the tiktok, I'll reply with it 💖
Yesss I’ve seen so many people do it and actualy look really good! I wonder if I should just try with regular dark tan not a “face” one x
@@RobertWelsh Or just let James do it for you. 🤣🤣
Look, it's you with your contouring done by James.🤬
💜🖤
I’m 45 years old,I do this every time I’m on holiday. Put on high sunscreen as a base ( like garnier 50 spf) some dark self tanner with color guard in a neutral color , use a smaller brush, not eyeshadow brush. Blend with a damp beauty blender. It must be a dark color, it can definitely look good. But i only use this on holidays to get a little makeup look .
The way you looked so much more like James when you pinned your hair back❤
I'm one of those that don't get the "they are one person" thing. I can always tell them apart.
Which is more than I can say about my own identical twin grandsons. They are 12y/o and I still can't tell them apart until I see how each is behaving. So when Robert took back his hair I swear to dog I actually gasped and said "James!"
Both are gorgeously handsome. Super talented individuals. But when they are together they make me howl with laughter. Their channels are the best, no drama and bitching. Just some mild micky taking about using wet-wipes, double chins and dehydrated skin. I love it, I have all three. 🤣🤣💜🖤
Right?! I never confuse the two of them but he really did!
Hello Robert, i appreciate so much all the effort you put in your 2 channels and i love your sense of humour. You are amazing. ❤
Thank you so much! 🖤
You are braver than I am in trying this
Love you and dermatica! Don’t love that it kept autocorrecting to dermatitis
😆
Add it to your phone's dictionary.
No, the flashbacks. So I used to attempt this about 20 yrs when living in Cape Town, just to look “natural” but always had to put foundation on as I looked like I had a dirty face 😜
I use a normal facetan for this.
I've put on a thick layer the first time, and it was blotchy. Terrible since it lasted a few days.
Now i put on a thinner layer and repeat for a couple of nights for visible results.
With my laminared brows and permed lashes, this looks like a full makeup without wearing any! Which is heaven to me.
I did this when I was stripping and it was GREAT under those bright flashy club lights, esp if you're working 5 or more days a week in the club and simply don't have time to do a full glam makeup and hair and need some of it to be done already when you wake up in the morning lol. And it didn't look amazing in normal light but I'd just put a little foundation over it and it was fine.
"seems in it's experimental phase" I just love him
I remember seeing Stephanie Lange doing this a few years back! It worked well for me but you really have to be precise and sparing
✨Thank you so much for being honest about ads and promotions. This is an example of how it should be done. Difficult? Didn’t look like it ✨
7:17 not them saying “chizzled” 😭😭
Someone didn't use spellcheck lol. That got me too. 😂
Thank you for potentially sacrificing your nice, even skin tone to do this 😅
I use a contour mask when I go tanning. If I'm bed-tanning, I use it to protect my nose and the sensitive skin around my eyes. But for spray tanning, it definitely gives me a contoured look. I love it. With that, dying my eyebrows, and perming and dying my lashes, I can wake up looking done up. Super useful for those of us who don't do makeup every day.
I do this with fake tan in the summer. With tinted brows and lashes all I need is some of the rose tint vaseline on cheek bones and lips and to curl my lashes and I can feel ready to go.
I hate makeup in hot summer but don't want to be totally "bare" so this works for me. It also makes for a really quick up and out the house routine.
OMG I am so going to try one of those masks! I used to work in a tanning salon and we didn't have those so now I'm SUPER intrigued! Where do you purchase yours at?
I wonder if you can remotely figure out the way I' m enjoying this video being an extream gothic who uses Fenty concealer 105 as foundation + Inglot eyeshadow 286 as setting powder to achieve a candle wax- casquet ready undertone aka _Muted Cold Jaundice_ 😅😆😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 *DE LI CA TE SSSSENNN* 🧛🏻♀️🖤
As someone who has been self-tanning for years not for this purpose just in general I would say if you really want to give it a go and try it go with a deeper color I don't know how they do the shades over in the UK but over here there's tan, deep, medium I would say go with deep
Wepa
I'm so super pale, but I'm really tempted to try this, maybe in the summer, when it would be more normal for me to have some color...
Also super pale but it’s always how tans are undertone yellow that sell me out
I'd love for you to do more of these kinds of videos, Robert! Trying these kinds of things are helpful for us to see how you would do it
James seeing the Dermatica spon:
**surprised Pikachu face**
This felt so much like sitting in the room with you and doing makeup and skincare together, just chatting and figuring new things out. Absolutely adore this format!!
I’m very pale and would be scared to try this in case it went too orangey or yellow! Bronzer shades look all wrong on me, I’m trying to find a nice ashy-brown that’s not too heavy to use as contour right now.
I do appreciate you trying these things out, I have learned a lot from you 😁
I'm very pale and have a very cool skin tone. I use one of the colors in my Stone Cold Fox eyeshadow pallette as my contour and it works great. I think it's the "Bould Type" color iirc. It's very ashy, light, and cool-toned.
You're far braver than I am! I'm far to fair for this. Can't imagine what it looks like when it starts breaking up on the skin.
Right, even regular bronzer looks really crazy on me unless I REALLY blend it. And it's a fairly pale color to begin with.
Otherwise it looks like my face is the only thing that ever gets sun lmao.
I did this couple years ago.. it was a mess, never doing it again
💜💜💜 OMG cant wait for the result 👀
I’m thinking that using this product on broken skin is a bad idea. Among other reasons, I accidentally tattooed my leg when I was little by having blue clothing against a scrape on my leg.
lol. Watching you apply it was the best.
Oh I need more….but calm down calm down 😂😂😂😂
Can 100% relate.
I've wanted to try this but I use way way way too much skin care for this to last or work. I❤you and your channel Robert! I also love The Welsh Twins channel. My hubby and I crack up watching it!
This is my favorite video of you ever 😂 you’re so hilarious you make my day! ❤ Thanks for keeping it real.
I tried this and it washed off immediately in the shower 😂
❤ love the panic and the moments of talking yourself back down 😂 this was awesome! Personally I agree with he other commenters about the sponge -- I have always used a makeup brush to apply self tan. I've used face specific as well as body tanners on my face using a brush. The sponge definitely picked up most of what you put down. I think if you use a brush you would see better results. With all that said, I now use coco & eve tanning micromist. You can use it before or after skincare. Gives a beautiful color!!
Oooh, excited to see this!
I just come home after a month long trip, and I am really happy that you have made so much lovely content I can relax and recharge to
Oh man! Good for you for trying it! I don’t think personally I’d try it I’m far too fair and it would look very weird on me I think.
Oh, thank you for the discount code, I've been wanting to try them for ages! Now, to the skincare Gods, please hear my cry and get rid of my acne marks already!
Hey ❤ just finished cleaning and now relaxing.
Robert, could you do this again pls but with your body tan product, and maybe a brush instead of a sponge? I think it'll come out better if you try it with a deeper colour.
intro screen is sooooo beautiful!!!
Robert and James are so fun!
I can vouch for Dermatica!! What a great sponsorship Robert! Everyone, highly reccomend!! 🖤🖤
I’ve been using the forever Sundays tan contour for ages and it’s actually really good
I’ve done this many times with a mousse bronzer and a stiff round/slanted makeup brush and buff it in using circular motions and let sit overnight. Always turns out fab.
hi Robert! I use tanning foam and makeup brushes and it works for me. I just apply it, not too much blending it in. Just a little dab dab with the brush. Maybe do another video trying this way! Would love to see if it works for you, too. Love ya!!!
Whenever i wear fake tan i use a moose formula i do it the night before and on my face to , then first thing in the morning i wash it off my face right away then shower , and i just love the golden glow it gives me , it makes my teeth whiter and my makeup looks so much better , i haven't tried it as a contour method though i am still curious to try it out because i don't really use tan much now just mostly in the summer 😊
I actually kind of loved it when you put it on originally ! Almost like washing it off just took it all off 😭😭
Yes, new video! :D
Oh also, in another video you mentioned how hydrating face mists can change your makeup game and I totally agree! I've been using them for about 2 years now with mine 🥰🤩😍
I love watching you. It is raining here in Palm Springs California and I watch you it made the day sunny 🌞
I love the idea of it! I didn’t see much of a difference so you’re right you might have to do it over 2 nights to get noticeable results. Also wanted to say I love your hair styled back 🥰
I used to apply Vaseline to the hilight areas then spray tan over the top, same idea the other way around. Received many a compliment waking up tired and hungover 💁🏻
Hello. Good Afternoon Robert 🖤 Happy Wednesday 🖤🖤
I'm with you on the no-stack skin care! I'm awful about doing more than 1 product! I wish this worked, b/c I'm not great at contour and bronzer.
The whole application process is me 😂 "what am i doing? This is a mess."
Hey Robert, are you bringing your spooky videos back anytime soon? I love watching all your videos but those are for sure my favorite!! ❤
This with Mac burnt pepper powder blush and a little mascara and lip balm would be an amazing summer look
Love you!
Your skin looks incredible after using the Dermatica 💜
Thank you! 🖤🖤
I remember hearing about this years ago, but I also remember a dermatologist saying that if you have issues of Melasma or hyperpigmentation it can really mess up your skin. I don’t remember the details but I do remember being afraid of trying it 😆 maybe we should ask James
😂 this is going to be hilarious 😅
Ooh I can't wait to try Dermatica!
I’ve don’t contouring and freckles with self tanner and it can turn out really beautiful if you have the right shade and place it correctly, it can take some trial and error though. Doesn’t really make sense for every day imo but lovely if you’re on a beach vacation or something like that where you don’t want to wear full makeup but still look nice
ROBERT… I love, love seeing your full face…
Dermatica sounds pretty awesome tbh!
Tantouring has been around since the early 2000s. Useing one for the body allover the face in a light shade and then using the darlest shade and the elf blending brush apply it highly concentrated to the areas you want to countor. The color guide always looks more intense and patchy. The key is being generous with it. Its great for a long weekend beach or boat trip, but it does fade much faster than a body tan just because you wash exfoliate and use actives on the face.
This is not new, been doing it for years. I firstly put on a very thin layer of tanning mousse all over the face, then “contour” with a brush with more product. Works beautifully. I would definitely try with a brush, that sponge seems to soak up all of the product. And use a regular self tan mousse , that thing seems to be very weak in terms of colour. ❤
Thank you for trying this out, Robert. If you try again, in addition to video, it might be useful to see still photographs of your before and after looks. I also would have liked to see your morning after results after you had cleansed and done your skincare. That way we could have compared your before and after skin at the same stage. Given your skills with a brush, you might get better results with a brush than with a blending sponge (which may absorb too much product). Thanks to your experiment, I don't I'll try this myself. I'm very fair (always the lightest, coolest foundation shade on the shelf). It would be too easy for me to make a mistake and end up with brown or orange smears on my face. Contour, bronzer, and blush wash right off. Fake tan isn't so forgiving.
I can’t lie I’m a tantour GIRLY, but it took me a while to suss it. My routine is - mix tanning drops in with moisturiser, skincare specific ones, daily. Then once or twice a week I use brushes to apply fake tan in dark to my face and leave it overnight - any brush you would use to contour with makeup but with tan instead. But when leaving overnight I recommend putting it over a heavier moisturiser/sleep mask product, nothing super oily though. Also hydrating mists make a world of difference if you do have dry patches. It really works for me cause in the mornings I just put on a touch of under eye concealer/brightener and blush and I can get on with my day!
Any brands you recommend specifically?
@@Sarah-uu6ugI’m UK based, but I use a garnier face tan drops, L’Oréal moisturiser and body shop seaweed sleep mask with a hydrating mist. For tan I prefer skinny tan, but bondi sands, coco and eve and cocoa brown have worked really well. I will also say that I use skinny tan express and leave it on for 4 hours average throughout the evening (both body and face) and it works great!
Ohhh you need to use a real self tanner not like a gimmicky tantouring product! I use the st tropas and I use the beauty blender. I was using the brush but it always came out patchy. And yiu only have to have it on for like a couple hours! Please try again robert!! Im invested!!
Does it still smell like weird biscuits? Haven't fake tanned in 20 years.
This idea popped up back in early twenty nineteen
Oh for sure it will keep popping up for the rest of time 😂 I remember it’s being the “Amanda Harrington” technique in 2019/2020
Hmmmm I give it 3 out of 5 Jackies 😂 Maybe try a deeper shade? Love you and both your channels! Hugs! 💚💜
U should try isle of paradise bc they have serum drops u mix with ur moisturizer for ur face or ur lotion for ur body. They also have already made up lotion to tan with and a spray and the og foam stuff. I like theirs it's so easy to use. Tho I haven't done this type of thing with it. U can get a scrubby mitt to get tan off ur skin as well. I'm not a tanning pro. I've just done it a few times on the body.
I laughed way too much at this one. ❤
I did this yeeeeeears ago n it never looked as good as i imagined lol 😂
I could see this being a replacement for contouring if you CBF with using make up, if you're a really on-the-go person for instance, but I really enjoy my contouring routine. It's one of the most therapeutic and instantly satisfying parts of getting ready.
Yeah i think I'm going to do it this spring with the tanologist drops and try to build it up over the course of a week! Will report back!
I love that whenever there is a zoom in you instantly transform into Bert Elsh...
I could see this going very wrong🐶🐹🦓
Thank you for the video
CHAOS, ROBERT, CHAOS!!!!😂
The tutorial showed the finished result and I literally gasped.. she looks exactly how you should expect, unevenly tanned. There’s nothing about this method that suggests it would actually give a natural contour. Perhaps if they made the product cool and shadow-like, then I’d be on board
Good job both of you James & Robert you should consider in the future having your own television series 👍😊
Good job both of you James & Robert you should consider in the future having your own television series 👍😊
To me it looked like a nice tan on you on the next day. It actually looked nice on day one so I would just do it the same day - but nervous about the patchiness later in the day 🤔 seems like a nice product
