- Doing custom Chevy C10 flat bench seat. Making two inch bolsters by cutting foam in some area’s and adding foam in others. Sanding foam to get smooth transitions and marking cover from scratch including double welt cording. Thanks for watching. SUBSCRIBE!!!

That’s exactly what my buckets need just a small ridge in the sides. Maybe just take off the Bottom Covers add 1/2” build of some of that white polyester Batting my wife has she Quilts so I cold try it then Spray Glue just a tad and recover don’t know if it will raise the sides too high that is where some sewing talent would come in I have yards of extra Material I bought when the Seats were made they sold me 10 extra yards! Maybe enough to make new Bottoms?

Great Video. When I am in situations like sewing the back-sided pleats, I would use a strong magnet to hold the consistent margin. I also use a white automotive white painter's paper for the pattern work...you can see through it and it never stretches on you. But you differently have a good way to do it yourself. Thanks!

Nice Job I have 1966 Charger I bought the Seat Covers from Legendary very nice Craftsmanship however I need side Bolsters on the bottom of the seats it’s a four speed car while Safyey Belts hold you in I think some Hip Support would be Nice!

thanks for this. would you ever try grafting the foam from another seat onto the original foam? I have some super nice Lexus bucket seats that are collecting dust. Seems like I should be able to take the foam off of them, and french it right into my bench seat foam, but I don't see anyone doing that.
it's honestly tough to find videos of any custom work on bench seat foam, so thanks again.
You might have to do some back filling in empty spots. But yes, foam can glue to foam with no issue. Doesn't matter if it's two different types of seats.

I'm surprised you didn't use an electric bread knife with the twin reciprocating blades. When someone told me about that... I've used it quite often. (Thanks grandma) That's who let me have her old knife! Haha!
I have a job coming up sometime where a guy wants to do something similar with his truck...a bench seat with a bucket bolster feel. It's all side work now...
I had thought of doing what you're doing and being a mobile upholstery guy. Yet in my area....the pockets are deep and the arms are short. (Phrase I overheard a dozen years ago)
I miss doing this kind of work. No I'm an x-ray tech and make more money doing that (at the moment).
I worked for a guy who was like an encyclopedia for what came correct with a car and was good about making sure the materials were what belonged in a car from the factory. I was more on the side of...let's customize it a bit (whether the customer's design or free reign in the realm of the trimmer....)
I just finished a show truck where most every part is covered in some kind of material.
I may get some business from it. The owner says his truck gets lots of attention. (He runs/owns a body shop.) We did a hybrid/barter deal with my daughters car. She hit a pole and needed body work. And I do interior work....
He got the better end of the deal...as far as my old boss is concerned.
When the truck is put together....maybe he'll let me make a video of it!
I was going to (IF someone hadn't done midnight auto express on my old E150 conversion van)....do just convertible tops and headliners. (Cuz I'm slow with seats) Haha! But perfectionistic as well... miss my e150. Had an older conversion (without the turtle top)...but it had the front captains chairs and I was able to turn the driver seat sideways and the sewing machine was right there! I didn't have a huge work table...but for visors and header strips (for the convertible tops) it would be fine!
I tried talking to my old boss about starting a TH-cam channel...me was not thinking it would pan out well....and told me the difference between us was that he is a business man that needs to keep the shop busy to keep his family provided for...and I was a craftsman and the bottom line for me wasn't the dollar...but the outcome.
Sometimes people fall all over themselves about how they should have gotten whatever done to their vehicle earlier....and it looks better than new...and others just write a check and sometimes say thanks without even acknowledging the work that goes into said project.
Thanks for showing the folks that this stuff isn't so easy that it comes in a can...but also if you have the tools...it can be done! 😇💪🙏
First thanks for watching. I didn't use a hot knife because I didn't want people to not have the tool and think the video wouldn't apply to them. With a hacksaw blade, the video can be easily adjusted to a turkey carver. And my tagline for the TH-cam channel is Famous for nothing. There's a lot of hard work that goes into it before you get any recognition. I've been working on this channel for a little over 4 years. And I'm still not monetized yet. such a great job on that seat. i’ve been doing bodywork for 20 years, and interiors are something i’d love to learn how to do. but i don’t know where to start with industrial sewing machines and the process. are there any workshops that teach this craft? any links or recommendation would be awesome. thanks for your time.

Wyotech would lead the way as a true upholstery and fabrication school. There are a handful of upholstery Groups on Facebook. I'm the admin of Upholstery Audio and Tech. Do you steam the base foam to uncompress it before you start with the shaping?
Yes, I normally steam any foam to bring back as much life as possible. Before I start any repairs.
Nice seat but i have a question. Do you glue the sewfoam to the vinyl? If you dont can i ask why you dont?
Yes, I glued the vinyl to the sew foam. I believe that to be the best method for this application. However, in certain applications, I may border stitch the material or glue the edges of the material leaving the center loose.
@@twistedartisan2131 i seem to have a little bit of trouble when i glue everything, thats why i was asking. Even when i steam it i cant quite get all smooth.
What was spacing on the pleats before moving to the back side?
3 inch, but each seam requires 3/4 allowance. So pleats finish at 2.25 inches.
You didn’t have to connect it to the low part of the seat with wire or hooks?
On this particular seat I decided to do a glue in. Not something I do often, but it fit the application.
Beautiful job, I’ve been an auto trimmer since 1978 and I’m always like watching different techniques. It’s difficult for customers to understand how much labor goes into a job like that. Curious, what would you charge for a job like that? Thanks
First thank you for watching the video. And yes techniques change from Shop to shop. I travel the US for half the year and I’m fortunate to work in some of the top-tier shops around the country. Each shop has their own method. As long as the client is happy with the work and the shop can turn a profit. That’s all that matters. A job like this depending on design & materials would run $2500 it took 3 eight hour days to build.
